Hello All
I'm often awake in the small hours,
for a variety of reasons which I'm sure that many are familiar with.
So I'm starting this thread for anyone in the same position.
We can chat, share our 3am worries, whatever.
If you fancy popping on for whatever reason, here is the thread for all Night Owls moon
See you later x

Kettle's on. Tea anyone?

FannyCornforth Wed 25-Nov-20 04:48:45

Thanks Jackie, but no ta. I've just finished a Maltesers hot chocolate, courtesy of the kettle that I've moved into my bedroom!

Am sad to report that I read an Anne Tyler book and I didn't like it - sorry. It was about a woman who left her family and was obsessed with her tote bag! Should I try another?
Am currently reading "Men at Arms" by Evelyn Waugh. I love Waugh, but he uses long words that I have to look up - eg "philoprogenitive" which means, apparently, having lots of children.

A cuppa would be nice especially if someone else is making it.

Nana3 Wed 25-Nov-20 05:15:45

Yes please Jackie.

Hello Night Owls. Tea is made here so do join me if you’re still awake. Been trying to go back to sleep for an hour and given up now. Reading through I’m sorry so many of you are in pain whether physically or emotionally. Always harder to cope with when everything is quiet I think, no distractions. Anyone tried audiobooks? I find they help sometimes, I can be warm and relaxed with something to keep my mind absorbed for a little while. Often drift off to sleep listening to one. Rest when you can everyone.

FannyCornforth Wed 25-Nov-20 06:00:23

Hello cornergran
I'm a big fan of audiobooks. My Amazon Alexa and Audible subscription were my best buys of this year.
My current favourites are PG Wodehouse read by Jonathan Cecil.
Not Jeeves though; nothing again Jeeves, but they are too familiar.
I've also really enjoyed the Provincial Lady books and Mapp and Lucia.

Which books have you enjoyed CG?
I'm going to get my head down now, in spite of all the morning birds kicking off outside!

JackieBee1 Wed 25-Nov-20 07:28:49

I went back to sleep! Sorry.
Sounds yummy FC. Hope you enjoyed it. Sensible idea re kettle in the bedroom smile

FannyCornforth Wed 25-Nov-20 12:44:42

Honestly Jackie hmm
Greenfinch and nana3 were waiting...
It's a good job cornergran was there to pick up the pieces / kettle wink
I'd better take you off the tea rota for this week...

Thanks Fanny brilliant idea I'm a terrible sleeper. Will see you later.?

Marilla Wed 25-Nov-20 20:26:27

Hello, Jackie
Was it Ladder of Years you read and didn’t like? I didn’t like it either! Yet I love her other books.

MayBee70 Wed 25-Nov-20 20:46:57

When I can’t sleep I watch Bob Ross’s Joy of Painting on catchup. I usually fall asleep after 10 minutes.

Blossoming Wed 25-Nov-20 21:21:37

I have struggled to stay awake today. Now enjoying a mug of hot chocolate then off to bed to listen to an hour of my current book and take last of my daily meds. Hoping I might get to sleep through until morning, fingers crossed!

Blossoming Wed 25-Nov-20 21:24:03

My current audiobook is Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett.

I've come to the conclusion that I manage to sleep at night because I go to bed so late that I am naturally rather tired by the time I get there! Am going upstairs now but don't expect to go to sleep till between 2 and 3am. Would this sort of routine help others?

Rosarie Thu 26-Nov-20 01:16:17

Will try and go to sleep now ! I’ve been reading for the past three hours !

JackieBee1 Thu 26-Nov-20 01:35:43

Morning all.
Yes Marilla! I will try another one then.
Sorry everyone re tea. I'm the first one on the naughty step!

FannyCornforth Thu 26-Nov-20 01:43:43

Morning Jackie!
How's your day been?
(No worries re the tea, I've got another hot chocolate in the go)
I'm really intrigued by that book now; she was obsessed with a bag?

LauraNorder Thu 26-Nov-20 01:44:23

Hello night owls, I popped in yesterday and read Fanny’s idea of putting the brain in a glass by the bed. I turned the light out, lay down and visualised my whirling brain gently unfurling while it floated in a clear liquid in a glass on the bedside table, don’t remember another thing until I awoke refreshed with my brain somehow returned to its rightful place.
About to try it again so if I’m not back in the next half hour you’ll know it worked. Fingers crossed and nighty night.

FannyCornforth Thu 26-Nov-20 01:46:13

Hello Laura, ooh, I'm so pleased that helped.

FannyCornforth Thu 26-Nov-20 01:48:39

Nighty night Laura
(Or as my dad and I say: nighty night night nighty - no idea why...)

suziewoozie Thu 26-Nov-20 01:57:02

Hello - is anyone there? Mind whirling, just can’t settle. DH always sleeps like the proverbial log - asleep within a couple of minutes of his head hitting the pillow.

FannyCornforth Thu 26-Nov-20 02:00:23

Hi Suzie
Now I'm not working I'm lucky that I don't get the whirling thoughts thing.
It's definitely the worst part of insomnia.

FannyCornforth Thu 26-Nov-20 02:00:55

Men do tend to sleep much better don't they.

JackieBee1 Thu 26-Nov-20 02:09:41

FC - the main female character "ran away from home" with "just a tote bag". I didn't know what a tote bag was; still don't really. It seemed like she couldn't go anywhere without the blasted bag lol.
Didn't do anything exciting except dropping off a wee sample to the docs grin.
