I’m ignorant I’m afraid I avoid watching adverts when I can and the instant Christmas adverts loom I switch over.

Oh I'm really jealous GrannyGravyenvy.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 23-Nov-20 14:21:02

I am definitely team Kevin

www.aldireviewer.com/how-are-aldi-and-lidl-related/

This clarifies the situation although intended for an American audience; it’s possible to extrapolate detail relevant to Europe.

Moonlight113 Mon 23-Nov-20 13:31:25

Googling tells me that Aldi and the American store, Trader Joe are the two companies owned by the brothers. The cigarette thing applies to them.

I realise that FannyCornforth but it doesn't make it any the less irritating.

If you start one lemongrove I'll sign itgrin.

I think Kevin may be feeling offended, perhaps a petition should be started on behalf of the humble carrot.?

I think the Aldi/Lidl being owned by brothers might be an urban myth, but could be wrong.

Neither sell tobacco.

I find that ad very irritating TBH. The 'Disney Princess' voice singing about food!!!

It's tongue in cheek.
It's taking the pee out of those sickly sweet Christmas ads.
It's satirical.

MrsThreadgoode Mon 23-Nov-20 12:03:38

I heard that the brothers disagreed on the sale of tobacco products so went their separate ways, Aldi doesn’t sell them , but we don’t have a Lidl near us so I can’t confirm it.

I've only seen the Lidl ad once and didn't think much of it or their cheap dig at Kevin the Carrot.
I laugh out loud everytime I see the Aldi hedgehog singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Rhubarb. Aldi, Kevin and the singing hedgehog are far better than the Lidl ad in my opinion.

Georgesgran Mon 23-Nov-20 11:39:27

Another one who finds the sickly-sweet warbling a turn-off. No idea what she’s on about other than something about a potato! Love Kevin though.

Am I wrong in thinking Lidl and Aldi are owned by brothers?

Doodledog Mon 23-Nov-20 11:32:32

I think Lidl's ads are very clever. They had a dig at Sainsbury's a while ago when someone put a staff poster up at a window and showed that Sainsbury's staff were being encouraged to get customers to spend more. Lidl turned it round to say that their mission was to save customers money.

Their digs are subtle, but not subtle enough to be missed by viewers.

Gosh yes! I'd not noticed that

Poor Kevin

It makes me uncomfortable when the little girl stabs the said faced carrot with her fork.

shysal Mon 23-Nov-20 09:43:15

It made me smile! grin

lemongrove Mon 23-Nov-20 09:31:58

I haven’t seen the ad, but how very dare they!?Kevin the carrot is sacrosanct, I love him.

Sarnia Mon 23-Nov-20 09:11:10

It's very subtle, isn't it? My daughter tells me there is a bit of 'history' between Aldi & Lidl. I'm not sure what that is but perhaps others may know.

Have you noticed the dig at Aldi's Kevin-the-carrot in the Lidl Christmas advert? It made me hoot with laughter when I finally registered it last night. Maybe I'm a bit thick not to have spotted it before.
