Good morning Mick, it is dry and getting light here on the S Welsh coast. Sainsburys delivery this morning and I will make a start on writing some Christmas cards. Had a new Shark Cordless stick delivered last night so that will have a test run today.
Hope everyone will have a pleasant day. Not sure when you are leaving Urm but have a good flight.

Good morning Mick, morning all from South Lanarkshire where it’s still damp.

I definitely need to make a start on writing my cards today. Yesterday was another day on the sofa finishing my online Christmas shopping and also made up a playlist of favourite songs and music for Alexa to play for me.

Wishing everyone the best possible day, look after yourselves.

ginny Wed 25-Nov-20 08:02:25

Good Morning. It’s looking rather dull and damp outside so far, but a few streaks of brightness in the sky.

We have to pick up a painting this morning so will combine that with a walk at some lakes, weather permitting. I think we’ll take a flask and sandwich with us and have a picnic in the car.

On the way home we’ll drop off a few supplies to MIL and have a chat from her driveway

Then on to DD3 to drop off her Christmas cushions and one for DGS. Hopefully a chat through the window.
Last call at DD 3 to deliver her cushions and another driveway chat.
Wow, I can’t believe how many people I will speak to ‘live’ today.
It’s going to be an exciting day!

Wishing all a good day with some ?.

Good morning everyone from Inverness, it’s cold but hopefully it’ll stay dry after we had such a wet day yesterday.
Sorry to hear your DD has been upset Sar I hope she’s feeling brighter soon, it’s so awful when our AC get upset and there’s nothing we can do to help
I’m going to pop into town later today to pick up a few things but other than that nothing planned except I really must tackle some cleaning sometime ....
Lovely nails Bellasnana and lovely to see you back posting Elizabeth
Hope everyone finds something to enjoy today, even just a little thing and take care all whatever the day brings ?

Pittcity Wed 25-Nov-20 08:12:22

Good morning from a grey skied Colchester.
Will chat with a couple of our Wednesday meetup group online this morning. We're hoping we can meet in person next week ?

Urmstongran Wed 25-Nov-20 08:16:19

Good morning everyone from Malaga where it’s a grey start. Warm though. No rain yet so I’ll peg some washing out and keep a watchful eye out.

I’ve read 68 books since I’ve been here Beechnut and brought 4 audio books on MP3 players out with me from Urmston library. Aren’t you glad I didn’t bore everybody here with the details of them all?
?

Lovely to hear we have our very own poet Laureate on here in Ashcombe.
?

In the news headlines this morning apparently St. Ives is the happiest place to live in the UK. Is that near you MellowYellow?

Seems Boris is saying 3 households can form one bubble over Christmas but do we want to when SAGE are telling us we are all about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? No wonder so many of us are anxious and would rather hang on just a few weeks longer until Easter.

Hope Wednesday is good to us all. Glad to hear you’ve left the sick bay *NanKate’. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Grandmabatty Wed 25-Nov-20 08:51:39

Good morning All from a dry Polmont. There are some blue skies outside so I'm hoping it stays that way after a couple of really dreich days. I'm out soon to pick up dgs's Christmas present. A drum kit! Can I quickly add, at his mum's suggestion. I've also bought him a tepee for my house as he loves to hide in wee corners. Nothing else planned for today. I think I'm going to have a quiet day. Take care all.

brook2704 Wed 25-Nov-20 08:52:43

Wishing your birthday boys a very Happy Birthday Gingster and I hope your DH feels ok after his operation and he can still celebrate later!

Anniebach Wed 25-Nov-20 08:55:27

Good morning from Shropshire.

We had a long day yesterday as DD and SIL both had meetings after the teaching day had ended.DGS is a sweetie and no trouble to look after. He was falling asleep by the time DD and SIL arrived home but was so excited to see them he soon woke up and was full of beans when we left??

Highlight of today is the supermarket delivery.Other than that will write some Christmas cards and catch up on some reading.

Have the best day you can all and stay safe.

Beechnut Wed 25-Nov-20 09:04:42

68, I was way out with my guess of 40 Urm.

Marydoll Wed 25-Nov-20 09:07:45

Good morning all from a cold Glasgow, its only 2° here, but a least its dry.
Sara and Scentia, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughters. No matter what age we are, we still need our mums, when we are needing support.

First of all, an apology from me. I think someone on this thread sent me a PM yesterday, but I must have accidently deleted it. If it was you and you think I'm being rude, I'm so sorry, not rude but dighted (a good old Scots word meaning daft!).
I have been overwhelmed by the kindness on here and a special thank you to the lurkers, why don't you give posting on this lovely thread a go!!

Please be very careful Mick, I received yet another letter from the shielding folk ? yesterday, advising me not to go on public transport for any reason at all, as it is too risky. I would imagine if it's opening day, Sainsburys will be extremely busy.
The letter said if I had to go to the shops, it must be only at the quietest times.
Although we have an online delivery each week, yesterday we needed bread and a couple of things we couldn't get from Tesco online.
We have a difficulty because we live on the border of three lockdown LAs and most of the supermarkets are in the other areas and we aren't allowed to travel between areas. However, we do have a small Asda, so foolishly I begged and begged DH to let me come with him, as I was so fed up.
Oh it was a big mistake, a very big mistake.

The underground car park was empty, initially a good sign. It was actually quite busy inside, mainly with elderly ladies, standing, exercising no social distancing, chatting in the aisles, with masks only half covering their mouths and certainly not their nose. I could feel myself becoming very anxious and kept doing detours to avoid them. We were doing OK until we got to the checkout. We didn't have much and it had been suggested that if I did go out, I always use the self service one. I thought we would be in and out in no time.

Unfortunately I picked the most unreliable one in the store. ?
It kept crashing and each time an assistant ( with no mask, nor possessing any concept of the meaning of social distancing) ) had to eventually come and help at least five times.
DH was fuming and I was so annoyed at myself for going in the first place and putting myself at risk. I stupidly just wanted a change of scene, as I haven't left the house in weeks and was feeling so low.
Who would have guessed that shopaholic MD would hate going shopping. ?

Well we had a bit of a drama yesterday. My trusty old tablet had eventually failed ? and needed to go to the tablet graveyard.
I got a new one a year ago, but dislike it and kept reverting to my old one.
As it kept refusing to accept my pin, I have had to reset it to factory settings on a number of occasions.
The online gurus state that this particular model only allows this twice and usually it then becomes unusable.
However I have managed to get it working again at least seven times healing hands and all that.
With my IT coordinator hat on, I asked DH to destroy it with a hammer, so that any secure information would be inaccessible. I thought as usual, he would just be nodding, but not really listening. For once, I was wrong. -- very unusual, I know!-- ?
While upstairs, I heard a fair bit of noise, but just ignored it. Coming downstairs, I found a very agitated DH. For once he had done what I asked. Very sensibly, he had put the hammer in a bin liner and hammered it. It immediately burst into high flames ? and DH had to frantically get the garden hose to put out the fire!! Thank goodness we are planning to replace the decking in the spring, It's never dull here!

Wishing you all a very pleasant day and sending virtual hugs to all who need them.
I've just has a scam Amazon account telephone call, so I'm off to get DH to check his account. There seem to be much more of them recently.
Have the best day you can, everyone.

Stilllearning Wed 25-Nov-20 09:09:55

Morning from a bright S Lanarkshire, cold but sunny. Haven’t read any posts yet, will do that later. Caught up last
night so want to say congratulations to Ginny on your happy news and good health to your daughter.
I’ve had a very disturbing few days. One of my very close friends had a stroke on Saturday morning. She recovered both her movement and speech by yesterday morning thank God and that is wonderful but the pressure on beds in our hospital is so great just now that she was discharged in the afternoon. This is the second and much worse incident in three months ( the first one was written off as a faint but she hadn’t to drive for three months and had just started again.) Her daughter phoned the hospital and spoke briefly to a doctor who said basically that she’s fine now and if there are no further incidents for a month she can go back to driving.
Obviously we are all thrilled that she is well but to be honest, still tense and her family are wondering what to do.
I have suggested that they try to speak to one of the stroke specialists, that ward was so busy that although their mum was initially told she would be transferred there to be fully assessed, she was discharged from the emergency receiving ward. My head is birling to be honest, I am truly grateful my friend is well and herself but I am really worried for her. Please God all will be well.
Good wishes to everyone

MellowYellow Wed 25-Nov-20 09:11:57

St Ives is on the opposite coast from me Urms but it's one of my favourite places, because of the wonderful light there. It certainly makes me happy whenever I go (or used to go!).

Gelisajams Wed 25-Nov-20 09:13:57

Good morning from Morecambe Bay where it is dry for once. I can’t stop sneezing this morning. I haven’t a clue what’s bothering me but I’ve had quite a few days of itchy eyes and throat with lots of sneezing. I will have to resort to my anti histamines again . I hate taking them as they make me drowsy even though they are not supposed to.
We ordered presents for 2 of the GC last night and they are ready to collect, so it’s a trip out with a purpose.
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

Grandmafrench Wed 25-Nov-20 09:15:30

Good Morning everyone from a warm but cloudy ??. I am proud and pleased to announce that our lockdown situation will change on 1st December...one day earlier than England, of course, so ner ner ner ner, ner to you all! ?

What will change and will we notice? Don’t think so. It seems that non-essential shops will open ( to try to save them from ruin, if it’s not too late) Other than that, things will be basically the same until mid January. Oh, the 9pm - 7am curfew will be lifted just for Xmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Restaurants and bars may be open by then but probably not. Hey Ho!

Are we all soldiering on? Of course, we also have to be strong for wobbling children and GC’s too, so we have quite a test of character and strength going on at the mo’.....don’t we.

That’s a lorra, lorra books, Urms, I remember years ago when we used to travel to Greece for holidays, our car would be bursting with books. All of which had to be carried up 79 steps on arrival ! Don’t get me wrong, I do still love a book - over a tablet or a Kindle; but when people ever ask about it, I point out the sheer convenience of the technology now. One book -v- One Kindle, give me a book every time. But for the luxury and convenience of endless reading, what and when required, whilst being away from home. No contest! The wonders of technology. Using my Kindle with its little lamp and choice of print size absolutely anywhere was a real treat from Day 1. And where could I possibly store 68 books?

Hope all goes well for Mr Gingster today and a small celebratory ? Happy Birthday to him and to the slightly younger Mr Gingster Junior. Many Happy Returns to both chaps!

Putting the bathroom back together today after some painting. Or, ‘dressing the room’ as the style mags are wont to call it. Then off to the Vet for dog and cat drugs, while clutching our signed statements of ‘intent’ in case we’re flagged down by a Police car ?. Such excitement. We shall visit a new supermarket while we are in the area. Not like Mick’s new Sainsbury’s - but it will do.

Keep safe all and enjoy your day whatever you’re up to and whatever the weather.

Hugs from the South of France ?‍♀️?????

Greyduster Wed 25-Nov-20 09:17:45

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Dreary and damp in South Yorkshire this morning. We have a bit of sorting out to do this morning, moving things, as our new living room furniture is being delivered tomorrow and I want a clear space. We don’t do clear space here as a rule, or when we do, it doesn’t stay safe for very long! I will make my mince pies today I think. Have a good safe day, one and all!

Greyduster Wed 25-Nov-20 09:18:31

“Stay clear”?

Grandmafrench Wed 25-Nov-20 09:35:10

How worrying and upsetting for you, stilllearning. She will possibly have to wait for assessment/investigation/treatment/advice from a Specialist department - until hospitals are back to normal. In the meantime, keeping her away from driving her car would probably be the best course of action, don’t you think? That way she’ll remain a lot safer and won’t be a risk to others on the road? These are such horrible times we are experiencing. My good wishes that her health remains stable - and wonderful that she’s making a good recovery.

GrannySomerset Wed 25-Nov-20 09:38:22

Am suffering from nail envy, Bellasnana and think your GD is very clever. Grey and misty in our bit of North Somerset and nothing planned except finishing my book for tomorrow’s Zoom discussion.

Like many, I am really exercised over Christmas. Of course I am desperate to see AC and GC but having been very careful for weeks don’t want to expose DH to any risk of infection. Since one family lives in Liverpool and the other in London it really does feel quite dangerous. Am I overthinking this? Can see I need to have sensible conversations with both children about this.

After a clash in the surgery car park yesterday I am feeling fragile and will be significantly poorer but don’t have the time or the energy to make an argument of it. After all, that’s what car insurance is for!

LauraNorder Wed 25-Nov-20 09:50:06

Good morning Mick and all from dry and calm Anglesey, builders stayed an hour yesterday, who knows what they did and no sign of anyone today. Once we have frost or even danger of frost they won’t be able to continue. Bit fed up with all the delay. They have their own little toilet and canteen in the front garden so we don’t have any contact with them and the main contractor hasn’t updated us for a while. We don’t want to put pressure on them but need to know what’s going on. Might email him later today.
Small problems I know but off my chest now.
Hope all goes well for your other half Gingster.
Fun nails Bellasnana.
flowers for Scentia and Sars and anyone else in need of some cheer.

harrigran Wed 25-Nov-20 09:58:58

Good morning from a grey but dry NE.
Another night with my book in the spare room. DH had his light out and asleep at 11pm, there is no way I would sleep at that time.
Sister rang me for a long chat, her birthday parcel had arrived which I am thankful for. It had been on the way for two weeks and was filled with products she can not buy in Germany.
She continues to socialise, even having people for coffee and cake at her home. She assured me it was fine because she does not have more than one household at any one time hmm
Soup making this afternoon.

Grandmadougal Wed 25-Nov-20 10:10:56

Good morning all from an overcast Norfolk.

Already been to get my click and collect shopping. Will sort it all after a cuppa and GN. At h up. Did I really order so much. DH thinks I’m a dooms day prepper but you can never be too well stocked in my opinion, it goes back to when we lived many miles from the nearest shops and were cut off many times in bad weather. Those memories never fade.

Nothing much planned for today except a brisk walk by the sea later.

I too can’t wait to hug my AC and DGS but that time will come hopefully soon.

Hope you all have a good day.

BlueSapphire Wed 25-Nov-20 10:30:47

Hello and good morning to all from a very wet and dismal Northampton. It has just taken me half an hour to read through everyone's posts! I do enjoy reading everyone's news.

Had a much less painful day yesterday, and things don't seem so bad this morning, just a dull ache over my left shoulder blade, but have taken the painkillers. Managed to get a bit done yesterday - mainly sitting down, such as booking supermarket slots up to Christmas, and searching for an extra present for DD. I found a really nice poncho in the shop that rhymes with sparks, and as she works from home in what can be a chilly dining room, thought it would keep her toasty. I gave into temptation and ordered one for myself as well in a different colour!

Youngest DGD's books arrived yesterday, a set of nine, so that will keep her occupied in the Christmas holidays - she is an avid reader.

Will just do the basics today, and give my back a rest, so some reading or tv calls this afternoon. No cooking as I have a chilli in the freezer, just need to do some rice to go with it.

Was so pleased with the outcome of Bake Off last night. I have wanted him to win since the first programme- such a lovely young man.

Hoping for a good day for all.

Blossoming Wed 25-Nov-20 10:34:38

Good morning all, another grey dank day here. I have plenty to do indoors to keep me occupied ?
