I’m in Snag’s ‘pumpkin spice’ dark orange tights today - so comfy!
He never gives up being stupid.
Clearing out drawers this morning I'm tempted to bin all the tights. The last time I wore them was 2 years ago for a wedding and I've always hated them!

Oh, gnw it was definitely “on trend” as they say now ?
Puzzler61 I remember at school aged 15-16 we still had to wear knee high socks. We wore them on top of the American tan tights thinking it was the height of sophistication ? ??
I mostly wear opaque tights to work with a skirt or dress. I’ve been wearing trousers a lot recently with long socks as the Staffroom can be very cold. I do love a long sock. I have a denim skirt I wear at home and I wear opaque tights with that. I wear leggings under a couple of at-home dresses that I have. I find my tights really comfy. Can’t stand those normal thin tights, the material goes right through me.
Yes, yes indeed I did Grannynw.
I had a Saturday job at Littlewoods in the hosiery department at 17 and we sold hundreds of pairs of American Tan. ?
Did anyone buy littlewood’s American tan back in the day?
I have just been looking for tights to wear with a dress on Christmas Day; I have two drawerfuls of them, which I hardly ever wear. Most of the time I am in thick black kneehighs under my jeans. Sheer ones if I am wearing smart black trousers and going out somewhere nice. No tights or socks in summer.
Redhead, there is little left to me but to play the buffoon in my Minnie Mouse trainers. My most comfortable pair is pale silver grey satin which are slightly padded so are warmish. They are at present , minus insoles, in the washing machine and I am wearing large purple trainers from Cotton Traders.
Tights are the devils work and make my legs itch. So it's mostly silly socks for me. Disney socks, etc...
I do have one pair of thermal leggings for really cold weather under trousers.
I think I must be in the minority as I wear tights most of the time - thermal in Winter (mostly from Lidl) and support tights (from Boots) if I’m expecting to walk or stand for long periods. With arthritic joints, I find warmth and support do help and have no trouble with the fit, which suggests I must be Mrs. Average!!
I can't bear tights either. And to think how wonderful we thought they were when they first came out and we didn't have to wear suspender belts any more.
This thread has prompted me to throw out all the tights I have. Not long ago I still had a pair of red tights which I had worn I think only once - when I was in the fourth form!
I wear socks if it's cold or if I'm wearing closed shoes. Two pairs if necessary. I may wear pop sox under trousers if I'm going out but the feel and the noise of tights under trousers makes me shudder.
I don't mind wearing tights, but finding comfortable ones is tricky. I'm not an odd size, but find waists that dig in, and crotches that droop.
I've never tried leggings under a dress, but may do so. I have a few very casual dresses that I could wear in winter. I like the look of a jean skirt with a sweater, tights and boots.

I love Snag tights. They go from very small to very large, and have all sorts of colours (and patterns, if you favour the Mary from Gogglebox look!).
I wear those with dresses in winter, bare legs in summer, and socks with trousers or leggings all year round.
They are a favourite with us tall ladies, that's 5'11"+. I'm 6'1".
Never wear dresses these days. I live in leggings but have just bought a Seasalt Tunic (TALL) and a pair of these tights would look great with it.
Nearly every day: Leggings and Socks. Fluffy Christmas ones on at the moment. Long ski ones for when I'm gardening or walking the dog. They're the only socks I've found that don't end up around my toes when wearing wellies, which I have been in since September.
All my tights are now in strips ready to hold up the plants. snap farmore15
I've seen redundant tights used for storing plastic plant pots in.
I have a drawer full of tights not worn for years apart from a black pair which go with all 3 winter dresses I own which probably see daylight once a year if they’re lucky. The waists are always too tight and roll southward, the gusset at half mast, the bottoms floppy and the leg length too short for my tubby legs. If I got rid of any of them, sure as dammit I’d need them the next day ?. I wear socks in winter and bare feet in summer
Opaque tights for me all winter.
Mostly black but also a few dark blue to wear with a couple of blue corduroy knee length skirts.
In very cold weather I even wear them under trousers but I am more of a skirts and dresses person.
Woolly socks. I knit them and wear them everyday. I have thermal footless tights for the winter and funky coloured footless for summer. But always hand knitted socks. Cotton for summer and wool all year round.
I hate tights. Last wore them to a wedding 5 years ago, which was also the last time I wore a dress.
It was a very lively Irish wedding. I slipped on the dance floor and put a hole in the knee of my tights. The hole got bigger as the night went on. But I was having too much fun to go upstairs to my hotel bedroom to change them.
Eventually, much to everyone’s amusement, after another few ceili dances the hole worked it’s way all around my knee and the leg of my tights fell apart and the bottom half slid down my leg to my ankle.

No tights for me! Leggings, warm socks in Winter and bare legs in the Summer.
No tights for me either. They never fit right.
I wear lined leggings or jeggings with dresses or tunics in the winter, with socks and ankle boots.
I wear thermal footless tights and woollen socks in the winter if it’s cold. If warmer thermal footless plus cotton socks. I wish I had more pairs of woollen socks.
I have one pair of tights still in the packet and one black pair of thermal tights with feet for the winter. Tights are not comfortable but stockings or hold ups are even worse! I have quite large thighs compared to my size.
Alexa your post made me laugh I hope you don’t mind. I was just imagining someone walking in massive trainers!
I wear thick woolly tights and thermals I have been plagued with osteoarthritis since my early fifties. I feel the cold most of the time I am always wrapped up apart from the summertime.
Old tights can be recycled into lots of thing, so don’t just bin them.
One pair (one leg inside other) is used to hold the legs of the high chair when not in use by visiting grandchildren
Cut in strips they make excellent plant ties.
I’ve just turned a pair into fairy wings for GD, with 2 wire coathangers.
OH uses to strain spray for garden use so it doesn’t clog sprayer.
There are probably lots of other ideas.?
