Who’s got my lemon squeezer?

Right own up who’s got it? ?

So this glass lemon squeezer was my Mums and she’s been gone over 30yrs and it brings back so many memories of her in the kitchen. I don’t use it often but always for the lemon and oranges I squeeze when making my Christmas cake, so when I went to get it out it’s not in its usual place in the cupboard alongside Mums sugar shaker. I made do without it as I wanted to get the cake in the oven.
This morning I’ve been through every cupboard and it’s gone, I mean where else would it be?

So I deduce one of you lots been in here, borrowed it and not put it back ?

I have a glass lemon Squeezer, but I it's definitely mine (it's also packed in one of many boxes, so please don't ask to borrow it!).. What I don't have is my Oven Gloves! I'm pretty sure my hubby packed it, or used it as packing for something else, when I left it on the table. We were hoping to move, and still have boxes everywhere, including the front living room! I'm also looking for my two Reindeer Christmas Decorations that live on the mantel at Christmas. Don't bother looking though, as the cards are taking up all of the space. I normally fasten them up on all the doors!

The Borrowers have got it - along with my favourite kitchen knife and the odd fork I use for the cat's dinner. And that box of crackers I swear I saw tucked away 'somewhere' only a week ago!confused

I’m really glad people have responded to a lighthearted thread in the spirit it was intended.

I still want to know WHOs GOT IT? ?????‍???‍???‍????

There's a mischievous little sprite who lives with us who we've nicknamed Charlie. He has been with us throughout our married life and often hides our possessions. Whenever something goes missing we call out "OK, Charlie where is it?". Invariably the lost item turns up quite quickly. However, at the moment my husband has lost his washbag which he has owned for many years and Charlie isn't being very helpful.

Tanith.. it’s in the same place as mit certificate and box of beechams powders that went missing years ago!!?

grandtanteJE65 Wed 23-Dec-20 13:27:25

It wasn't me either, and I realise that you aren't the person who got the box of kitchen stuff that went missing when we moved.

There is a brown glass lemon squeezer in it, a wire mesh tray for cooling cakes on, which I really miss and various other things.

Hope yours turns up!

Definitely try a charity shop or two.

I have a big yellow metal lemon squeezer, bit like a vice and very effective. Bought in New Zealand (oh happy memories) but I think you can buy them here now. Mum's glass one is still in the barn.

timetogo2016 Wed 23-Dec-20 12:19:12

What`s the betting it`s with my lemon grater.

Nanananana1 Wed 23-Dec-20 12:16:21

Oh and while we're at it who's got my stash of dark chocolate Kit Kats bought when they were on special offer? I thought I had hidden them somewhere but now they've gone! Sad thing is I don't remember where I hid them or whether I ate them

Nanananana1 Wed 23-Dec-20 12:14:17

And where are my orange handled scissors. I blame Postman Pat. My (at the time) five year old son posted everything he could lay his hands in in the flip-top bin in the kitchen. But the scissors are the only thing I miss! He's 35 now and I still ask him what he did with them!

granfromafar Wed 23-Dec-20 12:13:16

Tanith, I feel for you! You are welcome to borrow mine!
It's probably the same invisible thief who moved my stash of Christmas cards that were bought last year , ( Usually buy some when they're half price). I ALWAYS put them in the same cupboard. When I started writing this year's, they were nowhere to be found. Like you, searched every cupboard/ wardrobe in the house but had to reluctantly give up and buy some more.

I can solve that. It's obviously staying with the pretty little glass vase my former boss gave me as leaving present and my little gadget that punches holes in evaporated milk tins, both of which have vanished without trace from my house this year.

GreenGran78 Wed 23-Dec-20 12:08:27

It’s not with my clockwork timer. That finally turned up in the bottom of a big box of wool. Heaven knows how it got there!

TwinLolly Wed 23-Dec-20 12:07:23

DH used a bottle top opener and it's gone walkies! He can't find it in the usual and unusual places... So that can be added to the list! I've asked the house ghost to return it but it's not reappeared... Maybe ghostie feels he needs it himself or the bottle opener decided it had had enough of hard labour and did a runner...

Does anyone read the Hairy Maclary and friends children books to their GC If you do you'll know that one of his friends is a cat called Slinky Malinki who is a thief. He/she goes out at night and sneaks into people's homes to steal things to take home. I rather suspect that he/she has been visiting some of you gransnetters!

Incidentally if your gc's haven't yet been introduced to these books, they are by Lynley Dodd. My three year old gd really loves them.

Spec1alk Wed 23-Dec-20 12:00:56

My butter knife vanished, lovely thing with an ‘Ivory’ handle and filigree markings on the blade. If you borrowed it, keep it as a gift from me as I finally gave in and bought a replacement! Happy.

Tibbs Wed 23-Dec-20 11:51:20

It might be with the shears I had sharpened recently. Brought them home, haven’t found them since! You do realise this is why Mary Norton wrote stories about the Borrowers, small people who live in houses & “borrow” things.

J52 Wed 23-Dec-20 11:35:57

Si
Lightly off point re- finding things. When we cleared our garage for moving, we found a brand new Le Creuset skillet. It still had its labels on, but not in a bag. Neither of us had bought it, if we had we’d have used it.
Re lemon squeezer, have you looked inside other dishes, tins?

moggie57 Wed 23-Dec-20 11:34:12

try looking down the back of the cupboard .or maybe your mum moved it? or maybe someone broke it and threw it away. ask the family first.

Lost my work fob six months ago. I can remember wearing it around my neck at home while sitting on the settee while chatting to my DD about the fobs the teachers wear in her school.
That is my last memory of it.
Every now and again I get a bit of inspiration of where it could be...down the back of the settee, pockets, bags, the dumping place in my room, but no joy as yet.
I’ve yet to confess to the headteacher that I’ve lost it. Yes I know I’m lily livered but my excuse is that as soon as I come clean and tell “The Dragon” I can’t find it, then it’s obviously going to appear as if by magic!
I can’t keep using the excuse that I’ve lent it to so and so in year six!

I haven't lost a lemon juicer but I FOUND one I didn't know I owned and have no clue where it came from! It was in its original box at the back of the top shelf of a cupboard (I rarely look up there!) This thing needs batteries, very posh ?
I have a lemon juicer, I bought it the last time I was abroad because I DIDN'T HAVE ONE ?

netflixfan Wed 23-Dec-20 11:30:41

I love Gransnet! Such fun!

rowyn Wed 23-Dec-20 11:26:41

It might be in the back of my dishwasher. Often miss items when emptying. Will have a look.

Luckygirl Wed 23-Dec-20 11:18:23

Probably turn up in the same place as my loaf tin - just vanished completely!
