Good Morning Saturday (Boxing Day)

Just to comment on Daddima’s post about an air fryer, I’d say to go for it! We bought mine (Tefal) in the Sales last year and I love it. Quicker than the oven (eg frozen wedges cook in 15 mins!) and a healthy method of cooking.

Good morning from Durham. Still in bed with a sore back - DGS was wary of DD2s dogs at first yesterday, so kept wanting to be picked up - he’s a big 3yo!

Lovely day with DH, both DDs, 1xSiL, DGS and dogs - ended in Bedlam but easily cleared when they’d all gone home. DH tried to be sociable, but his health problems can only get worse.

On a happier note -DD2 is having a baby in June. What a complete surprise!! No doubt there’ll be problems, but nothing we can’t manage and will sort them when they arise.

Best wishes to all GNs - especially those with heavy hearts, poor health or lonely. X

We had a relaxing day yesterday, so much so my WP fell as after dinner missing much of North by Northwest, which was the only thing on tv he wanted to watch ?. Late morning we had chats on the phone with my niece1, then my nephew1 and two out of the three very excited boys, no zooming here. My friend rang for a chat in the afternoon to thank me for her presents and my WP had a chat on the phone with his retired vicar friend.
Like many of you it's cold meats etc dinner today, nice and easy.

Hope your DH feels better soon baubles ?

Good morning from the NE where the snow and ice melted overnight.
Yesterday was not the relaxed day we anticipated, up early and had cooked breakfast but then I started to feel ill.
We were travelling to leave gifts for GDs and I was sick all the way there, luckily I always go prepared for the unexpected.
We only had a sandwich for lunch but by the time we got home we didn't fancy the dinner we were going to cook so just had the swede, sprouts and sausages.
Fast forward to two thirty this morning and I was walking the floor in agony and being sick again, felt like gall bladder pain but I have never been diagnosed with gall stones.
I am in bed resting and feeling guilty for spoiling DH's Christmas.
GDs sent photos of them opening their gifts from us, eldest got all sorts for styling her hair and looked thrilled. GD2 got the laptop she craved so she could play games online with her sister.
GD1 had been baking Christmas biscuits and she left a box for us to bring home.
Skyped DD in Brussels but didn't get to talk to my sister in Germany, she met up with a friend and went for a walk.
Weather is going to be poor so TV and books are the order of the day.

I forgot to mention that I had an unexpected, socially distance visit from Santa yesterday.

Poor you harrigran please don’t feel guilty about spoiling the day. It happens. You weren’t ill on purpose lady!

Lovely lunch with DS and family yesterday. We are their childcare bubble and brought the two little lodgers home with us. Their mum is having a post nights nap, then will come to collect them. DGS woke me at 5.15 and about every 15 minutes until 6.45 when he fell asleep and his sister woke up! I feel a nap coming on for this afternoon!

Good morning All. Storm Bella has arrived in Polmont. We had a lovely day at dd's yesterday apart from sil's father trying to do competitive grandparenting .? I behaved so well my halo is still shining but he's the most obnoxious man! Anyway I had a lovely day. I'm driving ds to a local park where he's going to meet up with his friend and family for a walk. That should blow his cobwebs and hangover away. After that I will do nothing apart from making tirasemu. Have a nice Boxing Day.

Hello everyone. I hope you all enjoyed yesterday as much as you could. I was on my own. I woke up feeling very Scrooge like but cheered up as the day went by. I had 2 video calls from my sisters and brother and their families. My Christmas dinner was lovely. Prawn cocktail to start then chicken and trimmings l made a fruit crumble for pudding but l overcooked it. It was like concrete . The weather here in Sherwood is chilly and dull l think it as rained at some point. The park next door is so wet and muddy. Have a chilled boxing day everyone.

My daughter out law did a nice thing yesterday which I must tell someone about. Their neighbour lives alone with no family within hundreds of miles, DOL discovered recently that said neighbour has no smartphone or any way of ‘seeing’ her family so DOL asked for her DD’s contact details for emergency purposes and arranged for a FaceTime call to her own iPad yesterday, having asked her neighbour to pop in for a socially distanced mince pie. Neighbour spent an hour in their spare room talking to her daughter and grandchildren, hopefully she’ll now be more receptive to the technology she was so afraid of.

Good morning Mick and all from a cold grey Angus coast - a bit like the way I'm feeling now we're back in lockdown! I had such a lovely day yesterday and am so grateful for my lovely family. As I couldn't go down to Lincoln to DS2 as planned, DS1 came and spent the day with me. (DiL couldn't come as it was her mother's first Christmas as a widow). Anyway, it was so lovely to have DS1 here with me, and to enjoy video calls from the rest of the family. Not a traditional Christmas in any way with just two days' notice to prepare, but dinner of fillet steaks with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pud and brandy cream and then Stilton and grapes was a very acceptable alternative. (Not to mention mulled wine and mince pies and Christmas cake and sweets galore ?) DS, who does most of the cooking in his family, is planning steak Christmasses from now on! It was so sad to wave him off late afternoon, but the deed was accomplished with smiles and no tears (in spite of the internal emotions).
It's been lovely to read of everyone's happy days with precious families and my heart goes out to those denied that this year, and to those missing someone dear. Blue sapphire this is early days, so be kind to yourself. Keep the warmth of the happy memories in your heart secure in the knowledge that eventually their warmth will eventually exceed the pain of loss. ?
Dwmetc you gave me my first 'laugh out loud' moment as I imagined that line of nuns keeping an exited two year old in check!

Morning all from a driech overcast Ashford Kent. Love,y reading about all your adventures yesterday. Marydoll - really glad you particularly had a quiet day! I bought DH very expensive (?Sennhesser) wireless headphones about four years ago for a birthday. He is deaf - and getting worse - due to anti tank training in the Grenadiers. Best present I ever bought him, for both of us. He uses then when he comes in from work early in the morning and when I go upstairs to bed to sleep or read. I have replaced the earmuff parts - easily got them from the company - so good for another few years. Match of the day, Jason Statham, Kung Fu - bring it on, I can’t hear it!
We were quiet too yesterday. I did a pot roast silverside in my multicooker, it turned out very well. I had text messages from my DS late in the evening. He is in Romford where the Covid rate it 1247 per 100000! I am very worried for him and the family but he said he is doing everything by the book. I have no idea what the situation is with my DD and her family in Malta - we haven’t spoken since her wedding 14 years and three grandsons ago!
Hubby was up later than me last night so is is still abed. I thought there was nothing on tv but he always finds something - hence the headphones. Only downside to yesterday, I didn’t receive any presents! “Blame the lockdown , I work nights” etc! I shall of course drop some hints! My 66th birthday is in three weeks so he has a chance to redeem himself. And of course, I FINALLY get my state pension!
Glad to hear about all your news , I don’t know you very well yet but I will do less lurking and more posting.
To those in the sick ward - good wishes for a speedy recovery. To those estranged from loved ones - I pray thing will change in the New Year.

Gosh..... just managed to legitimately get good 'morning' in. I'm still (wonderfully!) tucked up in bed. I'm in amazement as I'm normally well active by now. Just been perusing my lovely day with family yesterday and catching up on bits and bobs of TV highlights. Loved the Strictly 25. Remember each and every one. Lucky me. Wondering if Bella has been and gone? Sounds all quiet on this northern front. Hope you all continue to have and enjoy the best day you can. Cheers!

Had a lovely Christmas Day. How to properly catch up with ‘our boy’ on 9 months of funny stories, drama and news? Not even trying too hard yet, since someone needed to keep a careful eye on culinary stuff after lots of preparation versus glasses of champagne! ? First time ever made Delia’s Christmas pudding recipe. It’s definitely true what is said......fantastic. I recall being very discombobulated the year that my late Mum announced she’d be no longer slaving away boiling puddings for the whole family. I was very young and working in London. Having got over the huge sense of loss ?, I started with Fortnums and, over the years have tried all sorts - some of them very good. But the pudding this year? Fantastic! I feel I can say that since all I did was follow a recipe. All credit to Delia Smith !

harri what an awful thing to happen, and you gave it your all, travelling as well. Poor you. Please get better by doing almost nothing? I once contracted Bornholm disease after a spell of voluntary work at a local hospital. Christmas Day it struck so badly that as I lifted a sizzling turkey out of the oven and playing hostess with the mostest in my new Christmas frock, there was a sudden searing pain in my ribs, both arms failed and a tidal wave from the roasting tray swept over the kitchen floor. Oh dear, was not what I actually said! Susan almost disaster there! Poor chap, hope he feels better soon and isn’t too sore.

Hope everyone, however the day turned out, feels proud that they faced up to all the ifs and buts and nonsense that had to be endured this season - and that it really didn’t turn out too badly. Nothing like we’d have wished for, but on the whole......we pulled it off. Relax now, people. Take care, and look forward to better times.

I’m going to search for laundry which will be dry but maybe half way to Morocco by now......

Good afternoon Mick, Annie and all.
I woke up just before 7 this morning and had to get DH to help me up, as I felt so dizzy. I finally felt stable enough to get out of bed at 12.30.
Don't know what brought that on, but I didn't like it.
We had a lovely day yesterday, even though there was much too much food. I missed the Queen's Speech, as I had thought it was at 3.15 ?. Anyway, we had a hectic family Zoom session, later, lovely to see most of the family, and our GD FaceTimed and caught up. GGS was very fetching in his Elsa crown and hair, c/o GGMa. He does so love dressing up.
There seems to have been lots going on in the GN Good morning thread, that I must go back and read properly.
