Good morning from Leicestershire where everything is covered in a layer of frost.

Not much planned today.

I too will be pleased to see the end of this year as I was last year also.
May we all have a Healthy 2021!

Urmstongran Thu 31-Dec-20 08:24:58

Good morning everyone from South Manchester where I was surprised to see thick snow! The sky just looks white so I bet we get more later.

The grandchildren are coming over for lunch (Greggs? Haha! They like the ‘treat’ then an ice cream from Thornton’s - both just downstairs in the square).
#lazygran

Their mummy goes back to work on Monday (an inset day) and I suggested a couple of hours in her house on her own so that she get do some planning on her laptop for next week.

Other than that, no plans. Snow is persuading me to just hunker down this afternoon. We’ve invited my stepfather for lunch tomorrow. He is in our bubble so it’s allowed. Curry for us tonight & decide later whether to see in the NY.

Like all of us I’ll be glad to consign this year to memory. Hope Thursday and NYE is good to us all. Still hoping to hear from gillybob soon. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. A vaccine is just around the corner thank god. x

Good morning from a cold and frosty N Hants. Marydoll if I wish anything for anyone this coming year, it is that you are able to recover some good health and finally get the treatment you need. You are one brave woman.

Quiet day today, hopefully a solitary walk, although I spend most of mine stepping into the road as the world and his wife seem to be out and about at the moment.

2020 will become a footnote in history and people will read about it in years to come. ?for 2021 and the vaccine rollout. Thank goodness for scientists, their names should be writ large.

Good Morning from a very freezing cold Black Country. The sky is very red. Still ice and snow lying around.

Last year we spent the evening in a local pub with a band, and said that we must do that again next New Year. How wrong we were!

Quiet night in, with a meal supplied by 'Cook'.

As expected we are now in Tier 4! Not much change for us really, as we haven't been to the gym since March, and I haven't been to the hairdressers since then either. The only big change will be that cannot meet with more than one outside.

Thank you Mick and all here for your company. It has lifted the spirits hearing all about your lives.

Sorry you had a bad night Marydoll a gentle hug from me.

Wishing you all a good and safe day, with special thoughts to gilly who I hope will be back with us soon.

Greyduster Thu 31-Dec-20 08:35:50

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s a very cold, clear and frosty South Yorkshire morning - and I have woken up with a cold. So much for all the vitamin C and zinc I’ve been taking. Time to break out the elderberry cordial I think! Or the sloe gin.......
Nothing much planned for today. DH is getting a much needed haircut, and I am making a curry. Doubt if we’ll still be awake to welcome in the New Year. Whatever you are doing today, stay safe.

amselerin Thu 31-Dec-20 08:36:35

Good morning, Mick and everyone from Lueneburg. A quiet day today (like most days in this corona year)- no fireworks. I am taking my sausage dog Waldi for a walk in the local forest.
Wishing all GNS a happy, much more normal 2021.
Take care and stay negativ (in a positiv way).
So, see you all in 2021.
xx

Good Morning everyone from a sunny 12C S of ??

Well, we’ve stuck with it, laughed and cried, moaned and cheered and muddled through a beast of a year together. I couldn’t imagine being with a more kindly, warm hearted, generous and brave bunch of people during some really difficult times.

Bless you all, thank you all for company and friendship and may you find better times, better health and happiness always.
? for a New Year of hope and good luck to us all.
Biggest hugs and lots of love xxx????‍♀️???xxx

Good morning from a cold, frosty Norfolk.

Not much on today, won’t stay up tonight but we always have lots of fireworks around us so expect we will be awake. We seem to have fireworks for all celebrations around here!

Started knitting some challenging patterns so will snuggle on sofa with an old film this afternoon and maybe a quick stroll on the coast.

All the family spread across the country are now in Tier 4 so more zoom calls now. Zoom quiz tonight which will be nice.

Hoping for better times ahead and that all GNs have a safe new year.

Gingster Thu 31-Dec-20 08:47:54

Good morning from a frosty Essex. Im Glad the carparks have been closed along the seafront Sar. It should help with deterring crowds from descending on us.

I had a trip to the local store, butchers and greengrocers yesterday. Should keep us going for a while. Felt quite safe.
When I walk little pooch , I feel safe until a jogger comes puffing towards me. They usually keep a wide berth and go into the road as they pass but yesterday, coming along a narrow alleyway, a young jogger came straight towards me. Very worrying.

We’ll probably see the New Year in and raise a glass to a better 2021.

Keep safe and well , everyone ?

Jaxjacky Thu 31-Dec-20 08:49:36

Good morning Mick and all from a frosty S Hants, I posted earlier, but Google Chrome is playing up, so started again.
Marydoll here’s hoping your day improves over your night. BlueSapphire excellent news, relief I imagine.
No real plans, must, must go for a walk when the frost has gone, either DH or I need to nip to village shop as my delivery today txt earlier, morning wake up call, for a couple of bits missing later. I have 2 rib eye steaks for dinner, a couple of Christmas crackers left, that’ll do us.
This year has been despairing and surreal, one of the best things for me has been being welcomed to GN, I thank you all. May we all move into 2021 gently with some hope in our hearts for improved times.

Good morning everyone from a very cold and frosty South Glos.

Nothing planned for today/tonight and will go to bed at usual time with a good book and my cat. This is my exciting life ! smile

Thanks to everyone for being here during these difficult and isolated times when the Internet is my greatest friend.

Caring thoughts to all of you who have heavy hearts for whatever reason, but we have survived 2020, maybe a bit battered but we've got there, and now it's onwards and upwards with hope. Wishing everyone a New Year full of good health, fun and laughter (all those things we miss).
wine flowers xx

I read in the newspaper yesterday that this image of 2020 has been chosen to be displayed in the city of Manchester. It made me fill up when I saw the picture. Next year we might go in and see it for real.

annsixty Thu 31-Dec-20 08:53:18

Good morning all.
Very snowy here this morning although not coming down now.
My GD has gone into work for a few hours for what may be the last time for the foreseeable.
It depends on the top management and the decision they make.
I send my very best wishes to you all for a much improved and a possibly Covid free New Year, both personally and for the world.

baubles Thu 31-Dec-20 08:53:39

Good morning Mick and co. It’s still snowy here in S Lanarkshire with more to come by the look of the sky.

A couple of our neighbours invited us to join them outside, from a distance, for the bells tonight but I’m not sure that I want to or that DH will be able for it. We will decide later.

All the best for the bells you lovely people, let’s hope 2021 brings better times.

GrannySomerset Thu 31-Dec-20 08:54:13

The field behind us is white with frost which is sparkling in the sunshine; the few dog walkers look cold but the dogs appear to be happy - good thing someone is! Warmer in bed so we will have a slow start as there is nothing demanding attention, though the car tells me that the battery in the key is running low so may go to the garage to sort that out. Can’t think of anything worse than being stuck at the supermarket with a car I can’t open and a trolley full of shopping.

So sorry Marydoll is feeling so poorly. Whatever else we hope for in 2021, better health for her and various GNers on the Good Morning site has to be top of the list. We all need some good news soon - a date for vaccination will be a welcome new year gift.

Alygran Thu 31-Dec-20 08:54:50

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s been very frosty overnight. We are now in Tier 3. Infection rates around our borders with previous tier 3 areas have rocketed. Must be all the gyrating!
Ironing this morning then jigsaw etc later. May go out for a walk if the frost gives a bit.
Take care everyone and stay safe.

Anniebach Thu 31-Dec-20 08:55:14

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Grammaretto Thu 31-Dec-20 08:57:52

Happy Hogmanay from the Scottish Borders. It's far too cold for any revelries but I will surely raise a glass tonight to you all. Well done to us for surviving this awful year.

Viridian Thu 31-Dec-20 08:58:52

Morning all from a cold, wet two-tier-escalated-overnight south Cornwall. From 1 to 3, and yet the visitors are wandering around without masks. I wish they would go home. My patio swing seat is frozen stiff and covered in a sheet of hail. That's as far as the white stuff goes here. Please send snow!!!!

I'm not usually a fiction watcher (the original Poldark was the last one I saw) but found a box set of Downton Abbey in a charity shop, the first three series. Oh dear I am addicted!

I don't celebrate New Year's Eve, but I do wish you all the best for this coming year. It will be what it will be.

Stilllearning Thu 31-Dec-20 09:03:55

Good morning from a cold and. dark S Lanarkshire. We had our first transatlantic zoom call last evening which was of course chaotic but lovely to actually see everyone.
A quiet day today, time for reflection and hopefully not brooding, time, for me at least, to try to be thankful for all the kindness I have been shown in the course of this year and of course for the news about the vaccine.
Finally thanks for all the new Gransnet friends and the feeling of belonging to a community when it was hard not to feel alone. Hopes and love to all of you.

Juliet27 Thu 31-Dec-20 09:09:05

Well, we’ve stuck with it, laughed and cried, moaned and cheered and muddled through a beast of a year together. I couldn’t imagine being with a more kindly, warm hearted, generous and brave bunch of people during some really difficult times.

I've only looked in here a couple of times but those words from Grandmafrench make me realise what a haven (as someone worded it) this forum must be for everyone.

I liked amselerin's comment stay negative (in a positive way) and let's hope 2021 will be a better year for all.

Nortsat Thu 31-Dec-20 09:15:52

Good morning Mick and the GM team from east London, where the temperature is 1.

Bluesapphire great news and a good idea to toast it with fizz. Mary wishing you a comfortable, restful day.

A bit of housework today and then a walk. This will be the first New Year for a long time, that we haven’t been out eating a nice meal cooked by someone else!
We have rump steaks and asparagus for supper and a bottle of champagne.
We seem to have quite a lot of mince pies and Christmas chocolates still to eat ... so we will manage some of those today too.

I am not sure whether we’ll stay up until midnight, it seems like the year in which we might not.

Good thoughts to those facing challenges and with poorly loved ones. Stay safe and warm and we will greet each other next year. ?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 31-Dec-20 09:16:40

Good morning Mick and all

Cold and frosty here echoing Sar53 and gingster . My washing machine broke yesterday with a a full load of towels inside, it tripped the electrics also. I think it is terminal as DH was able to open the door whilst it was full of water (Oh yes water all over the laundry room floor!!). DD collected towels and took them back to hers. Cannot get an engineer out, so DD will be doing our laundry for the time being.

Marydoll sorry you are feeling poorly, please rest. BlueSaphire good news at the end of an awful year.

I too shall be hunkering down today, I will sit up and see in 2021 (DH will go to bed as usual). I have got a half bottle of champagne for the occasion (2 glasses) this time last year I was not drinking waiting for DD to go into Labour, what a first year that darling boy has had.

Thank you for sharing 2020 on this lovely gentle thread, the ups, the downs, the sideways slips along with the smiles.

Keep safe, well and warm looking forward to better things ??

CherryCezzy Thu 31-Dec-20 09:24:35

Good morning everyone from a brightening Gower.

2020 For the most part, a year to delete is in its final hours and many deserve ?for endurance I think!

My youngest great nephews' birthday today and two birthdays tomorrow, my WP and his sister - they are not twins. They are not alike either ?

I'm a bit battered and bruised (fell out of bed twice the night before last - dratted seizures ?) but not pulverised by 2020 this last year. So many of you have bravely battled your own way through the year, a year of many wounds, some quite crushing. Yet, you have endured and somehow, any old how in some cases, made it through! Once more into the breach and we will all face a new dawn!

Raise a cheer, 2021 is near. Let's hope! ?

??????????????.

Susan56 Thu 31-Dec-20 09:24:36
