Morning Mick, morning All from a clear, cold corner of Somerset. Good night’s sleep for me, Mr C is still snoring so no early start for us. Will enjoy a walk and then a little admin, roast beef later and one of the lurking Christmas pudds for Mr C, Hope today brings a smile for us all, take care everyone.

Good morning Mick, Annie, and all, from a dull, but not frosty bit of Berks. I am up earlier than usual as today is my weekly tablet day.
Sorry to hear Travelsafar's sad news. We also heard that a good friend had died on Friday, but I think he had contracted pneumonia. He was one of our group of friends that used to meet for coffee on Saturday mornings.
I have a slightly sore throat, so am going to gargle and hope it doesn't develop into anything more.
Gagagran, we also had bagels with soft cheese and smoked salmon for lunch yesterday. Good choice. There is a tiny bit left, so I may snaffle that later.
Like the sound of your horizontal pause Kalu, and I may do the same, even though I sleep well, a snooze does me good.
We will listen to our on line service later. If we feel inclined, a short walk round the block.
I will try and get the sleeves of my jumper finished, and the sewing up can be done another day.
Dinner is not yet determined. Maybe roasted veg and some beef, who knows? But that will be this evening.
Still missing Gillybob, but nice to think she may come back.
Have a good day one and all.

Good morning from a -2c N Hants. Hope to manage a pavement walk, or rather, a hop on and off pavement walk. Yesterday a young man ran past without moving aside or slowing down and I had nowhere to go to. Normally it would have been fine, but now I’ll be worrying for a few days. No wonder cases are rising with selfish people like that.

Sorry, rant over. Have as best a day as possible. Hoping Marydoll continues to recover and thinking of Travelsafar. ??

Good morning fromthe east coast of Fife from what seems to be a damp start to the day. I cannot believe my first wake up call was when the alarm went off at 7.30. I had such a brilliant day yesterday where I felt really strong in my walking and I even stayed out of bed for a very long time in comparison to previous days.

Things are improving in this household unfortunately my physio won’t be coming he’s had to get a Covid test due to someone on the ward he works in testing positive thankfully my physios test came back negative however we’re reducing the amount of folks coming into the house to reduce any potential risk. My dh still awaits his X-ray result have a good day everyone lots of virtual hugs to you all keep warm it’s still very cold out there

Good morning everyone from South Manchester where it’s mild but we have complete white cloud cover. Can’t see anything in the distance.

My stepfather who is is our support bubble is coming over for lunch with us. Himself makes a mean chilli (like most men) & he cooked one yesterday adding mushrooms and red wine to the pan. Smelt yummy. We will have it with (bought!) garlic bread & rice. As we are still car-less Himself will walk over to our younger daughter’s and borrow hers to pick up stepfather.

I loved the little tale Gelisajam small children are so literal about what they see aren’t they?
?

Hope Sunday is kind to us all. Be good to have gillybob back. No back story necessary dear lady it would be too daunting for you I expect. Start small. Just say hello. You’ve been much missed by us all. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Oh, p.s. it’s interesting isn’t it dwg about our perceptions over the virus. I’m more anxious and our Yorkshire Lass less so, When we chatted on the phone I said ‘yes but 1 in 50 have it now’ she replied ‘I know mum - so that means 49 in 50 haven’t’.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Good morning from North Yorkshire. Another bright day but still cold and snow covered. May chance a walk later after I have done the ironing.
Hope everyone has a good day. Stay safe.

Finally got to speak to a dr yesterday who prescribed antibiotics.

Tesco delivery today and changing the bedding.Living the life??

Had a lovely chat with my mother in law yesterday.DH usually phones her so I never get to chat. She telephoned while he was at the pharmacy so we got to chat.I think we were both glad of someone else to chat to!I think it will cheer you up having a chat with your friend Mick.

Hope that Mary and Cherry have both had a restful night and hope that dragonfly is ok.

Have a good day all.

Good Morning from a very frosty Black Country.

My DD is a Deputy Head in a Primary school Ashcombe, and sent me the same link. The past week she says is the worst ever, and the attitude of some parents is beyond belief! I will say no more.

No plans today except for maybe a walk. Roast Chicken tonight with some of the leftover stuffing from Christmas.

Wishing you all a good and safe day

Jaxjacky Sun 10-Jan-21 09:10:43

Good morning all from a chilly, cloudy S Hants. Slept well last night, it makes a difference. Washing to go on, a quick walk later and football this afternoon.
Have a gentle day all.

Good Morning Mick and all GNs from frosty South Glos. I'm sure it will do you good Mick to contact a friend for a chat.

I am doing a doorstep book swap with a friend from my book group today. Looking forward to seeing what books she is lending me. There will be no contact as it's too cold to stand outside chatting.

Later I've got a family Zoom, and in between plenty of chores to do, including answering an NHS GP patient Survey. They want to know my experiences of my GP practice and other NHS services. The service at my GP practice is pretty poor but it seems mean to criticise at a time like this.

Wishing you all as good a day as possible, and thoughts to anyone who is ill or struggling. flowers

Marydoll Sun 10-Jan-21 09:13:17

Good morning all from a much milder Glasgow, its 6°C, much better than yesterday's -8°C.

Kalu, I'm sorry you had a poor night's sleep, forty winks are my doctor's orders for today.
Mick, I hope you manage your phone call, I find a friendly chat always helps to pass the day.

I have a question to ask for Ashcombe. Are you still able to attend church services in England? All churches in Scotland are closed, even our usual live stream Saturday vigil Mass wasn't being streamed.

Another question, this time for Gaga. A million years ago in another life, I was on a girls' weekend and we went to Pierre Victoire's in Chester for dinner. For the first time ever, I tasted red cabbage and I loved it. I have never been able to replicate the taste. We had red cabbage last night and it was such a disappointment. Would you be willing to share your method, Gaga?

Yesterday morning DH and I did our Covid tests, just in case I had been infected in hospital.
DD arrived obscenely early, so that she could catch the post. I have to admit to being exceedingly grumpy and feeling out of sorts, which didn't help what happened next. My tolerance levels were registering about minus 1.

We had received the tests by post and without giving me a chance to say anything, DH ripped them open and dumped them on the worktop. Mistake number one,
The decision had made to do things logically, one test at a time, but course his selective deafness kicked in.

Mistake number two happened when DH decided to do his own thing and disregard what we agreed.
I had my phone in one hand with the code and my tablet in the other, to register the code, when I noticed DH Mr Hash and Bash footering about on his phone, no sign of his tablet, so that he could register, Mistake number four.

I went of to do the test in the sanitised downstairs shower room and came back to find DH had dumped all of his paperwork on top of mine and had mixed things up. ? BIG mistake number five, BP soaring. ☹

After sorting that out successfully, DH went to do his.
That's when it all went pear shaped. We don't know what he did, but he totally messed up the online registration of his details and he couldn't register it. Mistake number six
Not wanting to bore you, I have missed out mistake seven where he ignored the instructions on how to do the test.

Poor DD and SIL were standing outside in freezing temperatures, trying to offer support from the back door. ☹
Eventually, DD had to phone the support line for help.
If I could have left the premises and run away, I would have.
Being in hospital was much less stressful. ?

DH was totally oblivious to the fact that he was totally to blame for the chaos. How could it have been my fault? I am a woman, I am perfect!!!?

Unfortunately I posted a photo of a bouquet of flowers DS2 had sent me on the wrong chat and DD who likes to think she is the favourite child (# sibling rivalry) saw them.
Her plan had been to bring flowers yesterday, so instead she and SIL bought me an air fryer! I have always wanted one, what a great gift.

An easy day today for me. We have no Sunday papers, as we are awaiting our test results. ☹ I love devouring the Sunday papers, so I shall think.of some mischief to get up to. ?
Yesterday, I found myself overwhelmed by the events of the last week and what a lucky escape I had. Time to get those big girl pants on again and carpe diem.

It's heartening to see so many posting on this thread. My thoughts are with travelsafar and the difficult weeks ahead for her and her family.
I haven't seen dragonfly, I hope she is OK.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Hello and good morning from a brighter Northampton, no frost or fog today thank goodness.

No plans for today, I should go for a walk, but to be honest, am getting worried about leaving the house. Have started wearing a mask when out on my walks, which makes me feel a bit safer. Also getting worried about seeing my support bubble. I will have to go out tomorrow to post a birthday card to my great-niece who will be 17 this week. Where has the time gone?

Finished my book - Where the Crawdads Sing - yesterday, and really enjoyed it, although some of it seemed a bit far-fetched at times. Now have to think what I'm going to say about it to book club. Started a new Christie last night. Will probably watch more rugby this afternoon - still trying to understand the laws!

Take care and stay safe everyone.

Good morning from Welwyn, Herts where it's dull, grey and looks cold outside.
Thought I'd mention two short films I watched on Netflix last night, Back to Life which has got short episodes of about twenty minutes each for five or six episodes.
The other Hope Gap is about one and half hour film.
I found both interesting and enjoyable to watch.
Hope you all have a pleasant day in spite of the difficult situation we find ourselves in.

Mapleleaf Sun 10-Jan-21 09:29:28

Good morning all,

It’s a cloudy start to the day but dry for now. I’m not sure what’s on the forecast for today, but at least it doesn’t look as frosty.

A quiet day ahead, other than changing the bedding, like Susan56.

I read that link, Ashcombe - nice to read something positive rather than the usual brickbats aimed at many teachers.

Enjoy your phone call, Mick. I’m sure your friend will appreciate a call.

Take care everyone ?

amselerin Sun 10-Jan-21 09:32:57

Good morning all from a cold but lovely morning. Nothing much planned, how could it. But I enjoy everyday. My day usually starts with reading all your messages. It`s such a comforting chat. It uplifts the spirit to read your positive messages. Also, I love to see your photos and read about your funny happenings. Just to read about your daily lives makes me happy. Thank you all. Have a super day all and if you are not well, I wish you a speedy recovery.
Take care x

GrannySomerset Sun 10-Jan-21 09:38:16

Bright and frosty morning with a rather blank day ahead. DH is having a lie in but when he is up and fit to face the day we will walk up to the village for a Sunday paper before he gives the snooker his intermittent attention. I will use the opportunity to make one or two uninterrupted phone calls.

My sympathies to Marydoll. I can feel the blood pressure rising! Nothing like somebody making an already quite complicated situation so much worse. Mr M’s motto is obviously “when all else fails, read the instructions”.

amselerin Sun 10-Jan-21 09:39:33

Good morning, again. Marydoll, I am still smiling afater reading your text. You are a treasure.

dragonfly46 Sun 10-Jan-21 09:53:22

Good morning from sunny Leicestershire.

Thank you for your concern Mary and Susan. I am okay I just haven’t got a lot to say!

Greyduster Sun 10-Jan-21 09:56:22

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Maple has given you our weather, which is not promising! I am going to get fed up soon of saying “nothing much planned for today - might go for a walk”. I baked yesterday. We had a face time in the evening with DD and she has apparently had a Covid vaccination. She is NHS but was stoically expecting to be at the back of a very long queue, so it was a bit of a surprise, but she’s not complaining.
Steak and kidney pudding for dinner today. Comfort food! Have the best day you can, folks and stay safe.

dragonfly46 Sun 10-Jan-21 10:01:26

Sorry I do have something to say. Yesterday I had an hour long FT chat with my DGD and it was wonderful.

Gagagran Sun 10-Jan-21 10:12:41

Marydoll I am happy to share my usual red cabbage recipe except it's Delia's not mine!! See link below.

Depending on size of the cabbage (I recommend a small one) it does make rather a lot but it freezes well portioned up. I always make a batch for the Christmas period as it goes well with cold meats, especially ham, and duck too.

Hope you like it and that your BP is now restored to normal after Mr Doll's exploits yesterday! You do make me laugh though and I really needed that this morning as DS has just texted to say DGD (his DD2 but our DGD 3) has tested positive for CV. They are all now in isolation.

Keep warm and keep on keeping safe! sunshine

Good morning from a warmer NE.
Another day of doing nothing yesterday.
Haven't heard from family since Christmas but do get daily updates from my sister.
Woken at 4.45 with a scam call about closing my paypal account unless I updated my bank details angry
Take care but enjoy your Sunday.

Blossoming Sun 10-Jan-21 10:23:34

Good morning all. I don’t know what it’s like outside, I’m still in bed after a bad night. Very upset stomach, seems to be settling down at last.

NanKate Sun 10-Jan-21 10:27:18

Blossoming sorry to hear you are unwell. Fizzy plain water usually sorts me out. Worth a try.
