Good Morning all from a still snowed in Harrogate - actually it has thawed a little, but tomorrow it should all disappear with the rain!!
Frustratingly last night I tried to do some sewing with my sewing machine and could not get it to work!! Will have to look for instruction book to find out what I have done wrong - it's so far been an easy enough machine to work, hope it's not the end of the road for it!

GrandMattie think your worries over little Iris have now been dissipated?
DWMXWG when we had our first house, my DH kept letting the front door shut behind him, he was forever turning up at my work to borrow my key.

Gwen, recently my machine wasn't sewing properly, I couldn't find out was wrong. As everything was closed, due to lockdown, I decided to strip it down myself and give it a service.

I discovered that the mechanism was clogged with fluff and tiny bits of thread.
Its working like a dream now and it cost nothing to repair. ?

Good Morning all, another lovely bright morning! And it is thawing !
I was watching for the Robin , he fluttered around but didn’t make for the crumbs as usual , next minute another Robin appeared , so the first was an interloper and was seen off smartish !

Gwenisgreat, Iris' problems are for life. She has a genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis and her leg is only one of a large range of symptoms. One prays that the only thing she will have is operations on her leg... but thank you, everyone, for your good wishes and prayers.

Good morning from Durham. It’s relatively mild and most of the white stuff has gone.
DH decided to make himself porridge this morning - but had forgotten how - I expect I’ll be able to scrape it off the microwave later!!
Did a long walk yesterday in some new socks - with a no seam toe, as I have ‘delicate’ feet. They were great, but I’ve got a blister on my heel, so a day inside today to give it time to mend! Going to phone a friend, make beef in ale and just veg out for the rest of the day.

Good morning from a cold but dry Norfolk.

Not much on today a quick visit to deliver washing to mum and then a day of faffing as DH likes to call it. Everyday feels like a Sunday in our house which is the day we always used put aside to do what we wanted to, so off we go!

Good morning all. A damp and drizzly one on Polmont but at least it has reached the dizzy heights of 4 degrees. I'm back on babysitting duties tomorrow so today is a gentle one for me. I've portered this morning and made scones and generally tidied up. Marydoll and Gagagran that is the red cabbage recipe I always use. It freezes really well too. I've never had it turn out disappointing. Yesterday I made a massive pot of leek and potato soup and lemon drizzle cake as DD had asked for some soup. I nipped up with the goodies and dgs was so pleased to see me again that it made me quietly happy. Lots of wee kisses and runs at me for hugs. I'm very lucky I know. I'm going to have a cuppa and a scone now. A chicken crown is roasting for tea. Have a good day all.

Thanks Marydoll that's probably what I shall have to do - only once been defeated by a sewing machine - it proved fatal for the machine!
Sorry GrandMattie didn't mean to make light of Iris's problem, it's just her attitude is brilliant and she will get through what is thrown at her. Such a star.

A dull day but no frost and a tad milder than of late. I actually left the patio door open for air to circulate the living room for a short while.

A lot of chicken dinners on the go today, including myself. What made me think there'd be enough turkey soup to do me today ? I hurriedly got the chicken out of the freezer last night and soaked half a pkt of peas so it's now in the oven, doing.

I'll have the full Christmas do with trimmings to accompany the chicken and because it's on the big side it'll do me the next couple of days as well. Then a quick orange sponge pudding with custard. I'll keep that bloomin' virus at bay .

Marydoll I take back what I said on another thread about it being better when there are two of you under lockdown, hahahaha---I don't know so much ! What hilarities, but I do understand because my dad was just the same and most of mum and dad's " differences " were that dad never listened half the time I used to laugh.

I do so miss the post office here since they closed down as I have two Birthday cards that have to go to Oz and I'm stuck. It's a bus ride to the nearest and no way will I travel on a bus, then other than that it's a taxi there and back----a dear do just to post two cards. I'll have to get D to do it if she's got the time.

Someone mentioned pedicure. I'll be soaking my hooves shortly and doing some clipping, a job that's getting harder to do each year but it has to be done, carefully too on account of the warfarin---don't want any cuts or mishaps.

Thoughts go to travelsafar and families right now. Also to others who aren't too grand or are finding life in general a struggle. These aren't nice times at all.

Warm house again after bubbled son fixed the leaks. Don’t know what I would without him and the cat. We had minted lamb chops last night and watched gogglebox for a laugh. How life has changed. A friend tells me his wife is about to be put into an induced coma with Covid, this brings it home to us...
I am going to cut gift tags out of my Xmas cards and a bit of sketching,
At 4 30 will tune into BBC 1 to watch Marines and Tottenham.
I’m not really a football fan, but it is a very unlikely combination ?

Hi - me again. Just back from my first walk in days, and thankfully there was no ice on my route today here in West Yorkshire. My sanity is restored after having a little fresh air and exercise, or am I exaggerating ?.

Georgesgran if you’ve never used Compeed ‘plasters’ you must buy some. They are not really plasters in the old sense, but they’re magic! You can be out on a walk, suddenly afflicted by a blister and the instant you use one - no pain, carry on walking, start healing!

I’m doing Coq au Vin for supper. Love your attitude to food and giving yourself just what you fancy to eat, Ellan. I too can endorse Delia’s red cabbage recipe. When I make that, it makes the kitchen smell like I’ve just walked into a restaurant in Belgium. Happy memories. We’re promised sun indefinitely now...well, for the next two weeks at least. My huge Aeoniums will be pleased to be rescued from their weekend in the garage, I think.

Afternoon from a frosty chilly Kent. Marydoll re church services. I watched the funeral mass for my (Uncle) Jim McQuade on Friday from St J’s. His wife was my mum’s best friend from school in the 1930s! Hence Aunt Pat and Uncle Jim. The soloist sang “Soul of my Saviour” which always makes me tearful. I’m not religious anymore but that hymn gets me. We sang it at my Gran’s funeral maybe that’s why.
Nothing planned today. Hubby just arrived downstairs so telly is on right away. We will watch Death in Paradise and dream of sunshine!
Mary your DH sounds a lot like mine. I’m an activist in learning style, he is a theorist but.... When it comes to practical things, like your tests , he’s gung ho and I follow instructions. I would have blown a gasket if he’d messed up the tests.
Easy dinner today. DH chose venison steaks for a change. He first tasted venny when we visited an old friend of mine with an estate in the Highlands. That venison came from their own hills. When I tell DF what we pay for shop bought venison, he laughs. His venison only costs the price of the bullet!

Borrheid isn't everybody related here. ? I got the wrong Jim McQuade, which caused a fair bit of confusion! I had to backtrack and apologise to DH! That's what happens when you are stuck in for months and lose status as a local worthy.
