Just think what we both would have missed!
Kim I know what you would have missed, all my exotic lunch menus for starters, but I feel I hardly know you so I can't imagine what I would have missed, though I suppose I could try! grin

I remember it snowed one day in June 1976. I wrote it my diary.

The Big Freeze of 1963.

Rufus, I'm so glad you decided against walking on water even of the frozen variety. Just think what we both would have missed! Spent a fair bit of time in Scotland myself. Great place.

Rufus2 Wed 07-Apr-21 13:43:37

1962 and early 63 was the coldest winter for decades in Scotland
Polomint And Windsor too! An early modest snowfall partially thawed, but then froze again and hung around as ice well into March.
I'll never forget the never-ending freezing East winds which eventually caused my dear Vera to contract pneumonia and it was a close thing in hospital.
A few days before we'd taken our 2 boys down to the River Thames at Windsor "to feed the ducks" It was frozen right across to the Eton side and one of my better decisions in life was to resist the temptation to walk across!
I'd have gone down in something other than history! shock
And all this was happening "darn Sarf"!
OK Kim; you can re-surface now! grin

Gosh, all this talk of Spring snow makes me snuggle even further into the duvet. Lovely and warm! Promising day ahead for me with a welcome group zoom meeting and a bit of interior decorating. Might also make it into the garden shed to do some seeding if there's any sunshine to warm it up. Roll on return of regular socialising.

1962 and early 63 was the coldest winter for decades in Scotland
No thaw till march and one of the first nights out after most of snow had melted was the night I met my future husband. Rivers and lakes were frozen hard, buses stopped running in certain area. Not had such a bad winter in Scotland since then thank goodness

nadateturbe Tue 06-Apr-21 23:08:13

I go back further than that Rufus.
I do have one particular memory though. 1962 or thereabouts..running across a small field to a friends house, dropping a half crown in the very deep snow and finding it when the snow thawed. Half a crown was a lot of money in those days.
I hope I sleep tonight. Not a good week sleepwise.

Rufus2 Tue 06-Apr-21 14:58:41

Of course you wouldn't know about snow in May 'cos you're obviously too young being born after "Global Warming" kicked in'! I'm back in the 1960s! grin
And don't remind me of cars and their Winter woes.
I've shovelled more snow off cars and drives than I care to remember!
Happy Days! smile
I'd love a photo so keep your camera handy until "May is out"
OoRoo

nadateturbe Tue 06-Apr-21 13:11:24

You've obviously got a better memory than I have Rufus. Don't remember snow in May. I tend to associate snow with dark winter days not sunny Spring.
That Winter Wonderland feeling passes very quickly believe me when you've got to clear the car to go out. But I'm sorry I didn't take a photo for you.
I would swap any time to live in "Neighbours land".

Rufus2 Tue 06-Apr-21 12:30:39

Looked out and the cars are all covered in a layer of snow
Nadaturbe Please don't do that! You're making me really homesick! sad
Oh! to peer out of the bedroom window before dawn and see a carpet of pure white snow covering everything; a "Winter Wonderland"
"You don't know what you've got until it's gone"!

I wouldn't say it's strange for April, nor even for May, despite "the darling buds of May"
We were locked down by snow in Chudleigh when visiting family in Devon in May over 50 years ago.
Nobody seemed to worry about global warming then! hmm
Just throw another log on the fire! grin
Good Health'

Good morning folks. I seem to be returning to awake for 2-3 hours during night. Just had tea toast and chocolate. Looked out and the cars are all covered in a layer of snow. It looks very wintry. So strange for April. Husband has gone into his own room to get some sleep.
I'd never heard of liquorice eggs. I googled and apparently you can get them coated in chocolate. I'm not sure what I think of that. I might get my OH one, he likes liquorice.
We too have been tidying the garden Kim and glad we did. Next thing is putting away winter clothes and bringing down summer ones but we keep putting it back as the weather is so uncertain.
Hope you all manage to have a good sleep. Back to my book....

Kim19 Mon 05-Apr-21 05:35:17

Hello everyone. Not so much a NO as an early morning one. I've been awake for a while but indulging in catch up on news and foreign affairs. I suspect regular owls will be thinking of going to sleep now. I'll just go with the flow and if sleep jumps in then..... welcome. I certainly won't be rushing out of this cosy bed if the weather forecast is anything like accurate. Sounds horrendous wind and temperature wise. I'm so glad I indulged in some sprucing up gardening over these past few sunny days. I may drive out for some essential shopping now that the travel rules have become more accommodating here in the UK. So much speculation. So much choice. All promising and positive so hallelujah to that.

Rufus2 Sun 04-Apr-21 15:13:35

What is the Aussie chocolate situation like? Is it like UK chocolate
Fanny C Just as well we're on the might owl thread, otherwise I'd be told to get lost! grin: Have just over-indulged on the Good Evening thread, but I get too carried away when I'm enjoying these threads! grin
Anyway; to your question! Although Cadbury for example manufactures in Tassie, I think their formulas allow for the higher ambient temps in OZ Very tasty though!
I like ALDI's chocolate bars (Made in Germany) , but they are too soft so I keep them in the frig. in moderation of course!

As for eating the licorice egg; I'll assume it's not addled, even though it's of Easter 2020 vintage, but I'd prefer a food-taster to be around first. hmm
Be seeing you, I hope!

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Apr-21 13:37:31

Hello again Rufus
That isreally sad that Nurse Jacquie couldn't / wouldn't accept your gift.
Won't you just eat it yourself?
I'm a truffle / noisette centre girl myself. Can't stand the strawberry ones.
My favourites, as I've mentioned before, are Lindor. They are lush.
What is the Aussie chocolate situation like? Is it like UK chocolate, or like the horrible American stuff?

Rufus2 Sun 04-Apr-21 13:29:58

you are very cryptic at times! (Colour hang ups)
Fanny C And you are very surprising at times, always likening me to cryptic crosswords when I wouldn't have a cross word with a lady to save my life!
Most ladies I've known don't usually quibble about the colour of a choccy gift, although they've been known to draw the line when too many hard centres are involved; causes trouble with false teeth apparently, but I'm sure that's not one of your problems! grin
Incidentally, I have a licorice chocolate Easter egg sitting here from Easter 2020. It was intended as a thank-you gift to Nurse Jacqui , but she couldn't accept it as being unprofessional. sad
Any practical solutions as to what I should with it would be welcomed!,

Ever since this thread returned I have had good sleeps every night! Just popping in to say hello, Happy Easter and don’t eat too much chocolate (save some for tomorrow).

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Apr-21 11:16:00

Thank you Rufus!
Although you've confused me as usual, you are very cryptic at times! (Colour hang ups? confused)
Thank you for the virtual chocolate too.
I like white chocolate the best I think, but I don't really have a sweet tooth (unlike nadateturbe smile)
I found it quite difficult to come by Easter eggs when doing my online shopping this year, although I was nearly tempted by a Guinness egg from Amazon.
I settled for a Peter Rabbit egg for myself (75% off - you'd be a fool not to!)
Happy Easter to you too Rufus!

Rufus2 Sun 04-Apr-21 11:02:00

We say hossie in our part, is that the same where you are?
Nanna 8 Happy Easter!
Not heard that, but it sounds like typical Aussie speak! smile
I call my favourite hossie "Shangri-La Melbourne," but unfortunately they couldn't put me up in there so it was my second fav.; much bigger with 275 beds and 15 operating theatres plus umpteen "procedural" units such as radiology, none of which I needed to use, fortunately!
Hardly what you'd call a "bush hospital"!
Can your hossie beat that! ? grin
Enjoy your choccy bilbeys!
OoRoo
Fanny C There's your answer, from Nanna and me! I'm sending you a virtual carton of dark and light choccy bilbeys; I'm sure you'll have no colour hang-ups when you see them! hmm

Enjoy and have a nice Easter !
OoRoo

FannyCornforth Sun 04-Apr-21 06:46:57

Happy Easter everyone ??️
It's lovely to see so many owls this morning
Hope we all have a good day with some sunshine as Kim says.

nadateturbe Sun 04-Apr-21 05:06:40

Good morning Rufus hope you're ok. Didn't realise you were in hospital.

nadateturbe Sun 04-Apr-21 05:05:00

Good morning. Happy Easter to you Kim19 and everyone else. Isn't it lovely to have brighter longer days? It does make one more optimistic. Not sure about it being very happy here in NI as there have been riots following a decision not to prosecute after Sinn Fein funeral. But fingers crossed.
Anyway on to nicer topics. Have just nibbled half a square of dark chocolate ( I am definitely an addict). It was hot and sunny in our south facing garden yesterday. I sat outside and listened to Nilsson Schmilsson on youtube. I used to have the LP. many years ago and loved it. Didn't sound so good now.
We actually sat in sister in laws garden yesterday and had a chat. First time we've done this since last June!
Think I'll read a page or two of my current book The Careful Use Of Compliments and try to nod off.
I hope you all have an enjoyable Easter Sunday. My daughter will be up early before the gc waken to hide the Easter bunny eggs in the garden.

JackieBee1 Sun 04-Apr-21 05:04:50

Anyone for tea?
Not sure if it's my imagination, but is it starting to get light? (Surrey/Hants border).

Nana3 Sun 04-Apr-21 04:59:56

Thanks Kim.
What's keeping you awake?

Kim19 Sun 04-Apr-21 04:56:40

Who knows?!! But.....they sound like very comfortable noises. Hope you manage to drop off again soon.

Nana3 Sun 04-Apr-21 04:51:18

Hello night owls, my house is making noises and my mum's old clock is ticking away, could that be why I've woken up ?
