I do love a Russian Doll Grandma . I have one gifted to me by a Russian delegation that came to an event I arranged. Such a kind gesture.

NannyT we spoil our country birds too lol. Norbert the pheasant and his lady friend Gracie rely on us in wintery conditions so there's always a good selection of food for them on the floor. But our little robins favour mealworms so they must be supplied also. We get such pleasure from just watching them.

Grandmabatty Mon 15-Feb-21 11:59:03

Nannandgrampy that is a special doll indeed. Dgs pointed to them on the bookcase and said Dolly. How could I resist? I'm very proud of my bargaining skills in Russian as I beat the seller down quite a bit! Nap time at the moment, so I'm having a sit down before tidying the kitchen. We made lemon and blueberry muffins earlier. Some toys are arriving later for his birthday next week. I hope I can keep them secret.

soop Mon 15-Feb-21 15:15:41

Just how long do you lovely lot think that I have in which to play catch up? Own up. You make me feel even lazier more laid back than I am. grin

I'm pleased to hear that the wretched sinus pain is under control, N&G. It's one buggeration too many.

I am about to be totally boring. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin by adding two delightful photos of granddaughter and her two wee lovelies.

Apologies in advance. I shall return with more mundane stuff a little later.

kittylester Mon 15-Feb-21 15:38:03

Lovely photos soop! I bet they gave you a warm fuzzy feeling.

Glad the sinuses are better N&G - I think you have passed the buggeration on to me! Thanks! I will endeavour to pass them on to someone else soon - any offers? Thought not!

Not a lot going on here - I did a zoom session with about 10 people caring for someone with dementia this morning and I am fit for nothing afterwards. So, a sit down with the crossword and brew now and back later.

Yiayia4 Mon 15-Feb-21 16:04:25

What cuties Soop I bet you can’t wait to hug them all.
That’s good your sinus pain is better N&G
nothing worse.
We did a short walk today nice to get out in the sunshine such a difference from last week.
I’m getting on with the diamond painting and find it very relaxing, all my friends and family will be getting diamond art birthday cards this year!

Take care all have a nice evening.

soop Mon 15-Feb-21 16:30:50

Yiayia Will you be able to share a photo of the diamond art birthday cards? I'm intrigued.

kitty Our lovely GP always recommends steam inhalation for bunged up sinuses.

Galen I had crusty, seeded bread smothered in butter and Marmite for lunch. Is Gary able to sneak a jar into your bedside cabinet? How much longer do you think that you'll be incarcerated?

N&G I'm also a lover of Russian dolls. We also spoil the garden birds. Our pheasant and his missus should be visiting any time soon.

Grandmabatty Have you a photo of your Russian doll? Have I missed it?

NannyT Our snow has long gone. The birds were treated to extra rations when the ground was frozen. We ordered a new sack of mixed bird seeds from the RSPB. The peanuts are now running short. The local shop has run out of supplies.

soop Mon 15-Feb-21 16:35:42

Grandmafrench I'm also missing dragonfly. Perhaps, like me, life is as good as "on hold" for the time being. I am feeling sluggish and lethargic and spaced-out. A visit to our friends would cheer me beyond measure. Must continue to abide by the rules. We are in this together. (hugs)

Galen Mon 15-Feb-21 17:08:50

They’re hoping to get me home by the end of the week

Grandmabatty Mon 15-Feb-21 17:10:57

My special Russian doll is on the left. Its features are finer and it reminds me of a wonderful trip to Moscow and St Petersburg. Dgs has permission to play with the other two, although I have to keep an eye on him as they have small bits.

Grandmabatty Mon 15-Feb-21 17:11:31

That's good news Galen.

NanaandGrampy Mon 15-Feb-21 17:13:34

If not Galen I can round up a GN posse and we can come and break you out !!

I spent an entertaining hour playing an online game with the little boys. It was hilarious. But exhausting and all without moving from my armchair.

So Grampy is in charge of dinner tonight - jacket potatoes all round .

Happy evening all x

kittylester Mon 15-Feb-21 17:17:10

That is good news, galen.

I inherited lots of Russian Dolls from my mum but they are very ordinary compared to those grandmabatty. They keep the grandchildren quiet for hours. I also have some special one for Christmas that are only played with 'under supervision'.

Mollygo Mon 15-Feb-21 17:22:24

Grandmabatty those are lovely. I’m well impressed with your bargaining skills in Russian. Do they all hold special memories? I like Russian dolls too. My favourite has 12 dolls in the set so I know what you mean about tiny bits. My mum left it to me.

Nanaandgrampy how old are the two little boys? What sort of online games did you play?

Dinner tonight includes semolina.
My sister mentioned it yesterday and suddenly it was just what I fancied!

grandmajet Mon 15-Feb-21 17:33:38

Hello everyone. I’ve peeked round the kitchen door a few times and it looks so warm and cosy I just had to pop in.
I’m very curious about the soap dish that you all seem to eat; it does sound quite strange. I’ve brought a few dropped scones as a hello present, in exchange for a cup of tea?
I love the pictures on this page as I am also a fan of Russian dolls, they look very special ones.
Also the photos of the children, are they great grandchildren, Soop? You must be missing the hugs so much.
I know what you mean about semolina, Mollygo. I felt the same about rice pudding yesterday and it was delicious!
Well, I’d better get off home and help Grandpajet with our tea, and I’ll maybe call in again sometime. You all seem so kind.

muse Mon 15-Feb-21 17:43:42

BladeAnnie Mr.Muse has always called it Frog in a Bog. Makes me smile.
Keep posting those photos Soop. They're lovely.

Cornwall weather change today. It's getting warmer. Particularly in our little stone cottage. In the freezing spell we've just had, temp was rarely above 16 when we got up and struggled to reach 19 by the time we went to bed.
Mr.M gave me a card yesterday. The heart inside is made from copper which he'd cut by hand. Perked me up no end. He doesn't do cards very often, so they are very special when he does!
Mya's problem has reappeared again. She's getting really tired. Took her for a different walk today. She enjoyed the new smells. Can't face a third session with the vet so going to google to see what problem could be. Also put something on the GN pets forum.
New zingy, lemon drizzle cake made yesterday - the zest looks like a bit like yellow snow wink.

Good luck tossing those pancakes tomorrow.

soop Mon 15-Feb-21 17:48:45

Welcome, grandmajet join the happy throng. It's most kind of you to come bearing scones. I'm a great fan of milk puddings. When at school, I would eat all the puds the other children loathed, including semolina, which was known as "frogspawn". Please come in as often as you wish. The more the merrier. smile

Grandmabatty The dolls are beautiful. The blue one on the left in particular.

Galen Don't tell me that they want to send you home so soon. I'm shocked. hmm Not! Seriously, that is good news for you. Will you have support when you are back in your own home? You will need it. flowers

Log off time. A quiet evening. Snow long gone. Winds far less fierce. Good night dear peoples. smile moon

soop Mon 15-Feb-21 17:51:53

muse What a perfectly lovely gesture from your husband. A treasure, for sure. So sorry to hear that Mia is still unwell. It's such a worry for you. The cake looks very moreish.

Grandmabatty Mon 15-Feb-21 17:56:35

Kittylester that sounds like a lovely heirloom to have. Mollygo I was impressed too! I learned russian at night school which came in handy as the school I worked in took a trip to Russia and I went as the Russian speaker. It was very basic but I loved speaking russian with real Russians. The other two dolls were given to me by my son after he visited Germany so not actual Russians! Grandmajet I made rice pudding with coconut milk yesterday but I found it very oily and stodgy. I love semolina. Have a good evening all.

Grandmafrench Mon 15-Feb-21 18:06:14

Good evening Kitchen types on a miserable drizzly day when certainly the rain has been really quite wet !! ?
The winters are a lot easier here, Brook, but never fear you will be soon reunited with travel to warm foreign parts. Our world torment must surely be at an end, soon-ish? (Everything crossed for that!)

Lovely photographs of the lovely 3, soop. Sorry to hear that your usual upbeat and positive spirits are taking a bit of a beating at the moment. I too have my moments! I think we are all sick to the back teeth of living like this, quite frankly. We've done all the moods backwards, forwards and sideways - positive, determined, stoic, sad, tearful, desperate, uplifted and maybe by now we've arrived at Can't be Arsed?!! ?
Friends keep us going, family keeps us going, partners keep us going, but I think there are limits. So....if we've all had quite enough and we want to sit in a corner, just sometimes, and sulk or just stare out of the window and do nothing, then we've earned that.

Meanwhile, back in the real world.....wonderful to hear that you may be making a bid for freedom soon, Galen. You will have everyone's permission to clean your local shop out of all their Marmite stocks!

I too had a very pretty Russian doll set when my kids were very small. The smallest doll was tiny and, as you say, GrandmaB it pays to keep an eye on very young children with little wooden bits. In order to save any accidents, one of our dogs chewed the very tiny ones - so thoughtful; but the other dolls survived for many years. I don't have such a set now. Instead I have a round (difficult to open) wooden set showing a rather rakish Pussy Pirate and his fluffy Girlfriend in nautical mode, supposedly rowing around the world. The set has seen quite a bit of wear, possibly due in part to its having been hurled across the room in frustration when various small people couldn't open the wooden balls easily.

Laughed at your raiding squirrel, Nannytopsy. We do have supplies of nuts and sunflower seeds which are vacuumed up in the mornings by visiting starlings, blackbirds, and finches. Yesterday afternoon we came home to a solitary figure sitting in the middle of the bird table in the sun. A lovely young Siamese cat from a near neighbour who always visited to play with our recently deceased old boy cat. I think she might have been waiting in vain for him rather than birds, so we gave her the benefit of the doubt.

Grandmajet - so welcome with the drop scones. You MUST visit when you can, especially with cake! You won't find a nicer thread than this if you feel like some company later in the day!

We're eating Moussaka tonight, so even though it's quite tempting - I do love baked chocolate semolina - I shall give it a miss, today, Mollygo. Do hope you are not trying to get us into further bad ways. You can be "portly" if you wish, N&G. I shall try to remain "comely" - and seriously avoid "stout" or "ample" for a while!!!! What a struggle it all is! Glad you are feeling so much better. I did laugh at "Porky". Little boys just don't care - but at least it was aimed at Sam, so be grateful?

All the missing persons - we miss you and just hope you're well. I shall include dragonfly in my shout out.

Stay safe, stay sane. Hugs to all. x ?

Puzzler61 Mon 15-Feb-21 18:52:00

I collect Russian dolls too - always found them fascinating when I was young and can imagine why DGC would want to play with them.
Lovely goodies in here tonight and always grateful they contain no calories so We can tuck in without guilt ?
Have a lovely evening everyone.

Puzzler61 Mon 15-Feb-21 18:52:43

Not a good photo, sorry. (Pls zoom in).

Puzzler61 Mon 15-Feb-21 18:54:24

Welcome grandmajet ?
And what a gorgeous and romantic gift from your DH muse.

Nannytopsy Mon 15-Feb-21 19:00:34

Grandmafrench I think you are absolutely right about us all reaching the CBA stage. I surely have. I am so glad the weather is improving and I can get into the garden soon. Galen - glad you may be released soon.

Grandmabatty Mon 15-Feb-21 19:29:48

Puzzler61 these dolls are beautiful. Grandmafrench I've decided I shall be Rubenesque. Better than portly!

Jaxjacky Mon 15-Feb-21 19:42:32

What a busy kitchen, how lovely, there’s loads of tiramisu left from yesterday, it’s in the fridge for you all to share, but mention of rice pudding has got me on a mission tomorrow. Welcome grandmajet the more the merrier. Beautiful photo’s soop you must be very proud. Pleased the sinuses are cleared N&G but if it’s pass the parcel, kitty, I’m not playing! Galen if you have a window you can open nearby we can drone in some marmite sandwiches. No Russian dolls here I’m afraid, so can’t play in that game either! I spent at least an hour and a half playing hunt some seed compost locally today, eventually found some, crumbs, you’d think it was liquid gold. Gave the car a run out though, when I returned a parcel from France, the last accoutrements for my kitchen, fond memories of slurps in the Dordogne.
