Which Name Would You Choose?

For Yourself, I mean?

(Hello by the way smile)

A bit of light relief on a Monday morning.

What name would you choose for yourself - first, middle, surname, whatever?

One thing that I miss about MN are the baby name threads, I love thinking about names, I think that lots of women do, whether it's from a baby point of view or due an interest in words.

I suppose it depends upon what 'suits' you aswell...

And has anyone ever called you something else for a prolonged amount of time?
When I did voluntary work at a museum, another volunteer was of the firmly held belief that my name was Heather (it isn't).

I'm undecided at present what name I'd choose, but I will mull it over while you post yours (please!)

Thank you x

I wanted to call DD "Peridot" or "Pascale", but DH put his foot down on such fancy names, so we called her Kathryn!

Is there a prize?

I would choose Grace if choosing my name now, nothing to do with Princess Grace, but it sounds peaceful. Sasha is nice too.
As some (to me) ugly names are making a reappearance, I predict Agnes and Maud will rear their unlovely heads...?

Hollysteers, I too would like to have been Grace. 'Tuesday's child is full of grace' and I was born on a Tuesday.

Well shiver me timbers annodomini, I’ve just looked it up and I was born on a Tuesday! Never knew.
I’m enjoying this thread, thank you Fanny.

Fanny Kylie or Charlene ?

Ha ha! This made me lol!
My poor mother would be spinning in her grave at the thought.

FannyCornforth Wed 20-Jan-21 10:36:48

Callistemon yes, I am female. Very much so!
Holly Grace is the most beautiful name. I've got a friend in her 20s called Grace and my aunty had a very dear friend who reached 100 called Grace. It's ageless and timeless.
My little dog is called Gracie smile

Callistemon Wed 20-Jan-21 10:40:50

Grace wouldn't suit me at all as I am not in the slightest bit graceful.
Although I can be gracious in defeat smile

I could be Bonnie, Blythe or Gaye

Is there a prize?

Hmm... I'll have a think.
Anyway. Time for some clues.

1. There was a popular children's TV show in the 2000s which included my name in the title.

NannaLyn Wed 20-Jan-21 10:52:25

Sabrina?

As a very small child, I always wanted to be called Belinda after being read a book about Belinda Bear. I thought the name was Blinda!

Hope you enjoyed your birthday yesterday. Gosh, you are only a couple of years older than my daughter! cupcakesmile

Marmight Wed 20-Jan-21 10:55:24

Mona. Dora. Pingu. Angela. Willa. Teletubby ?

Callistemon Wed 20-Jan-21 11:05:40

Do you have a best friend called Ben?

Olivia
Peppa (Pig)
Maisy (Mouse)
Fifi
Angelina

Marmight ?

FannyCornforth Wed 20-Jan-21 11:07:54

Pingu! grin

2. Probably the most well known incumbent (is that the right word?) of my name is a Scottish actress.

Calendargirl Wed 20-Jan-21 11:17:49

Isla?

Nell8 Wed 20-Jan-21 11:56:14

Tilde Swinson? Matilda? Matilda /Tilly/Tildy Cornforth? Am I getting warm?

nanna8 Wed 20-Jan-21 11:59:05

I like Freya. One of my great grandchildren is Isla, I like that too.

Casdon Wed 20-Jan-21 13:49:27

Tracy (Beaker)?

NannaLyn Wed 20-Jan-21 14:05:17

Hannah (Montana) ?

DillytheGardener Wed 20-Jan-21 14:10:05

My name is common of it’s time but now has horrible connotations to a meme that’s been doing the rounds for the past few years. I think I’d like to rename myself, Catherine Carter. (Completely made up) I love names with alliteration

An old family friend was called Marjorie. At least we'd always known her that. Then when she was very old, she had an illness which left her confused and unable to communicate properly. She spent her final years in and out of hospital.

The staff insisted on calling her Constance. It turned out that was her first name, but she had never been known as Constance. How to ensure the confused elderly are even more confused. So unsympathetic.

Blinko Wed 20-Jan-21 14:19:13

...always known her as that...

FannyCornforth Wed 20-Jan-21 14:25:57

I always wanted to be called Jane. Easy to spell and hard to shorten unlike my given name. Talking with a friend about it recently she had a think then said “yes, but it wouldn't be you!” smile.
