We really should have a category headed “Trivia” but “Chat “ will have to do.
Shower gels- what do you use and why ? (Don’t say washing!)
I have three or four on the go at any one time and for me it depends on my mood
If I am feeling ‘fragile” and in need of pampering, I use L’Occitane Rose Shower Oil, because it is so moisturising, on “normal” days, their Rose Calisson or maybe Molton Brown Geranium Nefertum but today, feeling a bit snuffly I went for one of my all time favourites, Molton Brown Eucalyptus to “clear the tubes”
I have also come to the conclusion that cheap body wash is a false economy as it too often frequently has the consistency of washing up liquid and lasts no time at all, unlike e.g.Molton Brown which being thicker lasts for ages - as does the fragrance smile

I also use whatever is on offer.. Coconut is a favourite.

I do have several nice Molton Brown gels and moisturizers. Also L'occitane, but save them for special.. Foolish I know.

Perhaps I should get them out and use them.

Nuxe Prodigeux. shower oil, the smell is addictive and it leaves my skin feeling great.

Lasts ages. www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjIlPOC9aXuAhUxmVwKHX8fAJ4QFjAAegQICBAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fuk.nuxe.com%2Fbody-cleansers%2Fprodigieux-shower-oil-cleanses-and-leaves-a-satin-finish-with-delicate-fragrance-tube-200-ml&usg=AOvVaw0XEGEOAT5c0egq7IG_D1rw

Pears. I love the smell and have the liquid hand soap as well as the solid bar. Loved it as a child too. A lot of gels etc make me itch so very careful which I use.

Molten Brown here, anything citrusy or Rhubarb and Rose. DH Likes Molten Brown too. I buy when they are on offer or in their sales. We find they last far longer than cheaper bottles. I had a problem with a delivery of Molten Brown before Christmas and their customer service are second to none. I cannot praise them enough.

I’m currently using ‘Faith in Nature’ hydrating coconut body wash, which I like for every day, but I am also a fan of Molten Brown, Decleor and L’Occitane, so intend to treat myself. We’re using natural soap bars for hand washing to save on plastic.

Lovely gentle thread. Thank you opener. I'm a bar of soap girl myself.

maddyone Mon 18-Jan-21 16:15:42

Molton Brown, L’Occitane, Neal’s Yard, SBC, all beloved of me, but my very, very favourite is the Korres range, especially the lemon one.

What a posh lot of ladies you seem to be. Molton brown! I must be a Cheapskate.

I use bars of soap usually, no particular brand, and my bath gel ( dont like showers) is often from the pound shop. That's me done.

Calendargirl Mon 18-Jan-21 16:04:59

I use a cheapy Tesco one, coconut at the moment.

DIL gave me some fancy hand made soaps for Christmas, currently using one of those in the shower, rosemary and sea salt, but disappointing though, hardly any lather with my scrunchie wash thing.

I can highly recommend both Friendly and Gruum shampoo bars, anno. Though I’m in a soft water area and I’ve seen reviews saying that the bars don’t work as well with hard water.

My GD (18) got me thinking when she censured me for using shampoo and shower gel in plastic bottles. She was using shampoo bars and soap instead. So I've taken to using soap and am using up what shampoo I have left before I start looking for the best shampoo bars.

I avoid shower gel to try and cut down on plastics. Another Pears soap fan here.

Oldbat1 Mon 18-Jan-21 15:27:25

Whatever is on special offer.

SueDonim Mon 18-Jan-21 15:23:53

Mogsmaw, have you got a link for your soap? It sounds lovely!

overthehill Mon 18-Jan-21 15:22:25

I shower with a puff thing and always used soap up until September last year. We were away in our caravan (yes we were lucky) and I had a sample shower gel in my washing bag. I decided to try and was surprised how soft it made my skin compared to the Dove soap I usually used. Since then I've been trying out just the gels
you can buy in the supermarket and I'm using a Radox one at the moment and like the smell. Also you can see when it is running down.

I use a Lidl moisturising gel for the shower - avocado I think it is. But I also use a scrunchy thing on a long handle to apply it which helps work it up into a nice long-lasting lather and the added bonus is that I can reach all my back and my feet with a lot less effort and groaning! grin

Puzzler61 Mon 18-Jan-21 15:06:21

St Kitt’s Herbery Rosemary and Bergamot shower gel.
It’s lovely.
I visit the Herbery each summer to stock up, when we are on holiday. It’s their best selling fragrance and I’ve found it in many bathrooms in Farmhouse B&B’s, cottages and hotels in Cornwall.

I used to love Molton brown and started using it about 10 years ago. Family bought it for me for birthdays and Christmas, but not any more it’s recently gone down hill, it seems very watered down. Dil and sil both said the same.

Callistemon Mon 18-Jan-21 14:53:41

I have one tablet of Cretan soap left, for some reason I had a soap buying spree well over 12 months ago before we were told to Wash our Hands

We used to have a huge block of Marseille olive oil soap - one of a few bought by a BiL when apparently the factory was about to close down. We cut it into ordinary size bars.
Lovely soap, nice lather, but alas all gone now.
Dh recently found some Greek pure olive oil soap online, so we now have a store of that.

I tend to use Dove shea butter shower gel and Opium shower gel when I want to indulge myself. I find Dove very thick and clings very well to my skin, I have to be very thorough rinsing it off otherwise it still clings to me when I get out of the shower and have to rinse my legs off again.

Mogsmaw Mon 18-Jan-21 14:21:33

I’m another vote for soap. French natural Marseille soap. Really cheap, lasts for ages and so many fragrances.
“Fanny” anyone? (no really, it’s an option) Or unicorn. The organic donkey-milk is fab for your face. The company I get mine from sends them with no plastic whatsoever! Even the tape on the box is biodegradable paper tape.

I use bar soap as well. At the moment boring Palmolive. I was once given some L'Occitane, but it soon lost it’s fragrance and became very hard. I think bar soap is better with soft/ened water.

SueDonim Mon 18-Jan-21 14:10:36

Soap for me. I don’t understand how you get properly clean with shower gel, which just seems to skate over the top of my skin.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 18-Jan-21 14:06:13

Like PollyDolly I use less plastic and buy bars of soap. My current favourite is good old Pears which is soothing and gives a great lather. Just lately I suffer from itchy skin/scalp and this doesn't upset it.
