Do you have an Irrational fear?......?

Not irrational but terrified of heights especially where there is no barrier e.g. on a pier. Feel as though I am being mysteriously drawn over the edge. On the other hand I like spiders, mice, snakes and bats

Rats and mice. I see these therapies where you’re supposed “to face your fears“ by confronting them but no way! I don’t like buttons either but that’s a madder one ?

Being buried alive. As a child I remember reading a description of someone opening a coffin and finding scratch marks on the inside of the lid. I think it was Huckleberry Finn or Tom Sawyer. Terrified me and gave me nightmares for years. Left me with a fear of being closed in. Always sleep with curtains wide open and doors ajar. DH soon noticed that I unconsciously leave cupboards and doors slightly open. I've left instructions that someone needs to stick pins in me to make sure I'm dead. Apart from that, moths and daddylonglegs?

The sea. I am terrified at the thought of being in a ship with all that water beneath me. A friend and I want to go to Ireland when we can but he wants to go by sea but I will have to fly!

I'm glad it's not just me with the fear of the sea! I've had a couple of awful Channel crossings back in my long-ago youth and I can't even contemplate going anywhere on a ship (or even small boat) now.
When we went to Australia, my husband booked us a trip out to the Great Barrier Reef on a boat. On the morning, I woke up in absolute bits, knowing there was no way I could go. He went on his own (he wanted to dive, so fine) and I relaxed by the pool feeling a bit guilty but hugely relieved.

Mine are fish - can’t go into the sea as I have fears that they will swim up to me and touch me

Must say I am so lucky- I grew up with parents that taught me not to be scared- and it has worked.

Just don't get the spider thing. They are such useful creatures that do an amazing job - and in Europe we have none to be afraid about. Where on earth does that phobia come from?

I don't like going under train bridges when trains are going over. Really freaks me out!
I will never go through the channel tunnel. I don't particularly like tunnels in places like Deep Sea World.
I love sea swimming so it isn't that I don't like water ?
As a child I didn't like the Hammersmith flyover at all. The last time I went over it was on the back of a motorbike (as a teenager) with my eyes shut!!

My poor mum couldn't hear the words rat or bat. It made her retch.

I hate all creepy crawlies, but most of all I hate crabs. I cannot go in the sea because of them. When my great nephew was a toddler and we went crabbing I would pray that we never found one. We never did, but when his dad was little he had a pet crab that he found in the sea and took it to our house where he kept it in a bucket. One day it tipped the bucket over and I went frantic with fear. They seem so aggressive and nasty with their pincers!

Spiders - I know they are clever and useful but I can't stand them!

I have had a dream many, many times of being trapped inside a car that's gone into water.
I'm really anxious now of driving near it!

On a lovely break in Scotland (pre pandemic!) my heart was in my mouth coming and going to our holiday cottage as it was near to a loch.

It used to be spiders but I had a therapy session ( actually I was watching someone else have it) & I have no fear at all of them now. I was at a yoga retreat & the lovely lady running it also did fear therapy & as we finished early one evening she offered to do a session. The woman having it done was terrified of wasps. I sat through it & it was fascinating but when I got home I found ( some days later) that I was no longer scared of spiders as without thinking I picked one out of the bath & carefully put it outside. Never looked back & they are fascinating creatures.

Moths for me, for DH it's spider's. Perfect marriage. He deals with moths for me and I deal with spiders for him!!!

When I was young I used to sit up in bed holding my tongue because I was afraid I would swallow it.

I don't like not having my feet on solid ground, or at least not being able to see where I'm putting them. Walking into a dark cinema is a bit scary or wading through dark water - could I step on something nasty? Actually, when I think about it I'm not too keen on water either - it's different when I'm in the bath or the shower because I'm in charge.

Spiders - hate them

Standing next to huge objects. I think this comes from going to the tank museum as a little girl my dad made me stand right next to it for a photo and I really freaked out.

I don’t like seeing sea all around me either I make myself go on the ferry to get to France ( would rather the tunnel but granddaughter claustrophobic) can’t do it at the moment of course, but I don’t look out of the window it panics me to see the water

I am absolutely terrified of getting tomato ketchup on me,I would literally be so paralysed I wouldn’t even be able to wipe it off! And it’s not because I’m afraid of blood, been a first aider all my life and love surgery documentaries.

Vomiting, like Oldbat1. I can’t even bear to look at the garden ornaments that have water gushing out of their mouths!

Crocodiles and alligators. Can hardly bear to read the word. Can’t look at a picture. My son and I also have mild trypophbia. If anyone on here happens to know me I will have well and truly blown my cover now !!

Caterpillars for me. It’s ridiculous as I’m a professional gardener! I’m always covered up from head to toe so I don’t touch one. I was clearing a bed once talking to the owner at the same time. Suddenly I screamed. She thought I’d snipped my finger but I’d just noticed a green caterpillar crawling up my jacket!

Mine is of getting stuck when taking something off in a shop changing room. I get all hot and sweaty just thinking about it.
The dread is of being stuck with a dress or top over my face, arms in the air unable to breathe or move or call for help.

It's a real fear that's stopped me trying things on but I can't remember it actually ever happening ?

Same as Jaxjacky. I almost didn't read this thread in case someone wrote the word! When I saw it, it made me cringe. Same reaction if I hear the word. If I see them (mercifully very rare), takes me hours to get over it.

Froglady - I believe that picture of the men eating their lunch sitting, high up, on a girder is genuine..........sorry!

I cannot stand sn*kes and hate even typing the word. I hate Motorway travel - even as a passenger and I hate getting on trains because of the gap.......but had to get on one on Sunday to travel to a clinic for my vaccine (it was the best way, by far, to get there.)

I am OK with mice, don't want them in my home but if there was one I could sleep OK but if I saw a largish spider there is no way I could sleep until I knew it had been 'dealt with'. i have 2 phobias, one is dentists and the other is water, I cannot swim and would love too but now I am 79 its too late for that. not been to a dentist in over 30 years. The other irrational fear is claustrophobia i cannot be in a room with the door shut
