Hi everyone,
Thanks for your contributions to this thread - we've taken your points on board, and we just wanted to clear up a few things.
Bans are not something we take lightly, and we only ever use them as a last resort for users where it is clear a situation is not sustainable, as users are not taking heed of our final warnings, or temporary suspensions, and continue to break our guidelines. We understand the frustration here, especially if you've formed a friendship with a long-standing poster, but we need to make sure the site is welcoming to all, and if talk guidelines are consistently broken and we see other users being 'ganged up on', we have no choice but to take action.
With speculating about missing posters, we completely understand your concern and would be happy to check up behind the scenes if you are worried about someone's wellbeing. However, we discourage these kinds of threads and conversations because they are not helpful overall, and can encourage unfair speculation.
Just to reassure you, we are totally unbiased in our moderation, both politically and when it comes to particular members, and will only delete posts and threads where necessary. There's been quite a few posts asking why some posts are deleted while others are left to stand, and the answer to this is that we are a post-moderated forum, and therefore we don't see every comment added to site. We do rely on your reports to moderate, so if you do see anything that you think breaks our guidelines, please do report it, and we will always take a look as soon as possible.
