All is forgiven! ??
Good morning everyone. Sorry I’m late, not very good night.

DH had his shit yesterday and went to bed early with a sore arm and headache. He then proceeded to fidgety et all night. Got up at 330 for a hot drink and eventually came back to bed. Naturally, I was worried and took ages to go back to sleep once I’d warmed him up and established it wasn’t serious.
Photo of new quilt. DGS has approved...
Nothing on again today - cleaning, some sewing, Spanish homework..thoughts and prayers go to the sorrowful, in pain, in difficulties and everyone on this kind thread. Stay safe. X

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s bright and sunny so far.
First load of washing on and I will go and strip my bed in a minute. I hope to get it all dry outside.
Then perhaps a walk and some gardening.
Good to hear that the mum-to-be is home and that more people have had their vaccines. Hope all the sore arms are better soon.
Have a good day everyone. Stay safe.

Good morning from icy Scottish Border country. I am so looking forward to not having to put on 4 layers each morning and that's just in the house!
TBH grandMattie, I was embarrassed. I thought your DH deserved some privacy. grin
Jag, jab, hit or shot (as they say in America) I don't mind as long as I get mine soon.

I am so happy to hear the good news Marydoll. May everything go right from now on for the family.
I also like the way your DGD is teaching you. I must try that with my DGD. So far we have set up a zoom call and she has shown me pictures and crafts she has made. Their internet is not very good terrible in the Highlands so I only catch every other word.

Thanks sheepandcattle for your news from the farm. Why do they calve and lamb so early in the year? You'd think April would be soon enough. Is it to do with the market or the pasture? When we kept geese the first egg was laid on Valentine's day (and hatched 4 weeks later).
A catching up day for me, to finish my knitting and begin another project.

Hope you all have a good day. And what has happened to Michael?

brook2704 Mon 01-Feb-21 09:17:02

Congratulations on the birth of your DGS granfromafar you must be so very thrilled. Exciting beautiful times ahead ... ? ????

JackieBee1 Mon 01-Feb-21 09:21:25

Any chance of baby pics please Sheepandcattle?

GrannySomerset Mon 01-Feb-21 09:25:11

What a cheering thread this morning - quilts, calves, new babies and Marydoll’s DGD has evidently inherited the teacher gene - can she do “the look” yet? All in all, a good start to my least favourite month, one which will be particularly unexciting this year.

Laundry of course and bed changing and possibly a little walk if it stays dry. DH’s balance is uncertain at the moment and I am nervous about taking him out in case there is a problem - at 6ft 4inches he is too tall to carry! We’ll see. DH is up and sorted so I can have my shower in peace with luck. Have a good day.

Good morning everyone from a grey and damp Northampton. Looks very miserable outside.

Thank you to those who reminded me about The Dig which I watched last night and thought it was excellent. Of course it led to me looking at the story of Sutton Hoo on-line, which I found fascinating.

Will be ordering my book club read today; I've seen that is over 300 pages, so I need to get started!

Will now go back and read the thread and may pop back in later. Hope today goes well for all.

Anniebach Mon 01-Feb-21 09:38:08

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Beauregard Mon 01-Feb-21 09:38:29

Like Grammaretto I'd also wondered why calving is so early, but agree it may be to do with the market/pasture. Hopefully Sheepandcattle will clarify. When we bred our horse we timed the AI so we got a spring foal (early May), but that was a one off. Racehorses are bred to foal earlier in the year as they all have official birthdays on 1st January. The earlier they foal the more chance they have to develop and mature before they start their racing career as two year olds.

Marydoll Mon 01-Feb-21 09:39:17

granfromafar, what lovely news, you must be walking on air!

Grammaretto, you should try that methodology with your grandchildren. It tests what the child knows.
Many years ago, we had an inspection from her Majesty's Inspectorate. We hadn't had one in twenty years, so you can imagine how nervous we all were.
The head inspector came to inspect my maths class of 6 year olds. After delivering the lesson, I asked a pupil to now teach the class.
We got an outstanding and were singled out in the report. The school was filmed for the Scottish news, as we received the highest rating ever in an HMI report. Not bad for a school in one of the highest areas of deprivation in Scotland.

Morning Everyone
My first post! Watched The Dig on Netflix yesterday and can recommend it. Based on the true event of an important archaeological find in Suffolk, in 1939. Ralph Finnes is terrific as the main character, with strong supporting cast.

Sparklefizz Mon 01-Feb-21 09:43:45

Welcome Zoe2020. I enjoyed The Dig too and thought it was beautifully filmed. Wish we had more of these good films to watch at the moment.

Sparklefizz Mon 01-Feb-21 09:46:39

Congratulations granfromafar on the arrival of your new grandson. flowers

Urmstongran Mon 01-Feb-21 09:48:08

As a fellow reader (when I put this bluddy thing down) I’m interested to hear what books grannysyb and BlueSapphire are referring to please? Was yours ‘Shuggie Bain’ by any chance grannysyb?

I’m not running to the Thursday Murder Club novel but as our Yorkshire Lass bought it for me at Christmas I feel obliged to start it today. That said, I would never buy a novel in hard back! No way Jose.

GrannyOwl5 Mon 01-Feb-21 09:53:17

Good morning everyone from the north Kent coast where it is grey and damp.

Great news about your friend’s grandaughter Marydoll. Congratulations all round Granfromafar on the safe arrival of your new grandson.

The exciting thing today is that I am having my sh*t this evening- sorry, couldn’t resist ???. Your post was a great start to a grey Monday grandMattie .

Hope all our missing posters are ok. Hope everyone has a good day. Stay safe

harrigran Mon 01-Feb-21 09:54:35

Good morning from a dry and sunny NE.
Bathroom cleaning and some admin work required, GC will be wondering where their pocket money is.

EmilyHarburn Mon 01-Feb-21 09:58:02

NotaGran55 does MIA

Sad to see that Mick is still MIA

Mean Missing in Action?

Is Mick ill? Is he at home? or is he in hospital?

Gwenisgreat1 Mon 01-Feb-21 09:59:00

Good Morning from dry and frosty Harrogate
The penalty I pay for cleaning my silver sugar tongs? I now have to label them with their hallmarks, etc!! It was manageable when I had ten, but now it's nearer 30!!
Have put a beef casserole in the slow cooker, am just as likely to forget about it and cook something else!!

Spoke to my cousin last night, it is a year since her son died suddenly, think it was a heart attack! She and her other son and his family are having a vigil today.

Have to admit my breathing is not good today, will have to improve it or end up in hospital! Don't want that!

Will be talking to my school friend later this morning, then my sister this afternoon. I don't think I'd have got through this without internet and all it brings!!

Glad to hear your friend has improved, Marydoll

Keep safe and well, folks may today be brighter for all

Gelisajams Mon 01-Feb-21 09:59:05

Good morning all from a bright, frosty, calm Morecambe Bay. I suspect it’s cold out there. Yesterday was bitter and we abandoned our walk.
Not much planned for today, apart from a bit of research into a house for sale by auction which DS1 thinks may be suitable for his brother. DS2 is autistic but works full time and lives independently, but he needs a lot of guidance and support. It could be a nerve racking few weeks!
Take care stay safe everyone ?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 01-Feb-21 10:05:55

granfromafar congratulations on your new grandson ?

Marydoll positive news about your young pregnant friend.

Urmstongran I have The Thursday Murder Club on my kindle to read next, unfortunately I am struggling to finish a Christmas book but will get there eventually!!!
Sar53 homeschooling is getting to most parents I think, I know that the GC we have here several times a week is struggling and we struggle to motivate him.

B9exchange Mon 01-Feb-21 10:08:24

Good morning all from an overcast and drizzly Hertfordshire. Great news MaryDoll, look forward to even better news on Friday!

Just taken my car in to have the exhaust holding band replaced and the garage has informed me I now have a slow leak in a front tyre that will need replacing. It is going to be one of those days!

Feeling much better today, side effects from the vaccination last night left me unable to get warm, with aching joints, mercifully gone this morning.

Hoping for news of Mick too...

Beauregard Mon 01-Feb-21 10:10:56

Congratulations granfromafar to you and your family flowers

And good news from Marydoll.

Mapleleaf Mon 01-Feb-21 10:16:09

Good morning,

Another bright, frosty day. I much prefer this to the dull, grey, damp weather we seem to have so much of.

At last, February is here, which means another step closer to spring. I know we shouldn't wish our time away, but I find January such a haul to get through at the best if times, never mind during a lock down.

Your opening post made me smile, GM - an unintentional typo on your part but so funny, and it seemed to fit in with the rest of what you were saying ?. Your quilt is looking good.

Such good news about your friends GD, Marydoll. The power of positive though and prayer, perhaps?

Now we'll turn our attention to Captain Tom, shall we?

Like everyone else, I hope that Mick is alright and that it is just a computer issue that is causing his absence like it was the last time. I find it most bizarre that suddenly we are allegedly not supposed to enquire after posters who aren't posting - it smacks of over control. It's a basic human trait to show concern about others, surely? I won't say more in case I get my wrists slapped, but I certainly think some clarification is called for.

Take care everyone ?.

Grandmabatty Mon 01-Feb-21 10:22:02

Good morning all. I've been up and about for ages but this is my first opportunity to post. Babysitting duties today and tomorrow. It is still cold and frosty in Polmont but dry. I hope we see Mick back soon and others who are missing. Thank you*Marydoll*. I wasn't on the norty step but had pulled back from posting for a few days. It is heartening to hear the good news about your young friend. I was worried about her. Grandmattie that quilt is beautiful. I love the colours. I have no idea when I'll get my sh*t but mum has had hers which is good news. It's also heartening to hear how many of you have had your sh*t. I baked all weekend which always makes me happy as I'm a feeder. So flapjacks and banana bread have gone to son in law. Cinammon buns and peanut butter cookies and scones will be given to neighbours and frozen. I made a huge pot of lentil soup too do that'll keep me going. Son in law has a couple of interviews this week so fingers crossed. Right, I'm off to play as a toddler requires my attention. Have a good day all.

ginny Mon 01-Feb-21 10:27:30

Just popped back and wanted to say , so pleased to hear the good news from marydoll.

Congratulations to granfromafar .

I am reading Rumours of Rain by Andre Brink if anyone is interested in South Africa in the Apartheid era. It is the first book which has gripped me in a while.
