I think I’ve always done it to a certain extent but now I find when I’m at home on my own I am doing it nearly all the time, when I am doing housework or some other task, not so much when I’m sat down in the evening ..... then I find I talk to the tv!!! ....?

BigBertha1 Tue 02-Feb-21 14:31:00

Of course not! I talk to the furniture and the car if I'm in it on my own.

LauraNorder Tue 02-Feb-21 14:31:22

Well yes, I do enjoy intelligent and witty conversation grin

We have DD and her dog here, so when I’m asked who I’m talking to, I say it’s to the dog!
Of course I talk to myself, who else would put up with my mutterings?

MissAdventure Tue 02-Feb-21 14:34:48

I talk to myself, the vacuum; everything really.

tanith Tue 02-Feb-21 14:36:49

I do it when I'm out walking thankfully people assume I'm on the phone.

I have talked to myself more since lockdowns.

Yes, I grumble to myself, and laugh at my own jokes too.
Haha tanith, yes we can get away with it now!

I do - like the replies - so very sensible. smile

Charleygirl5 Tue 02-Feb-21 14:40:22

Rarely. I live on my own so Alexa frequently does not understand my husky unused voice so will not reply.

All the time! Usually going over the various jobs which I intend doing next....

Nannylovesshopping Tue 02-Feb-21 15:04:37

Of course, doesn’t everybody, the best conversations are between the spaniel and myself.

Granny23 Tue 02-Feb-21 15:04:51

I don't talk (or mutter) to myself, but now, more and more I shout, curse and swear to/at myself. Usually the reason is that I have done something incredibly foolish and given that there is no one else to "tell me off", I feel I must forcefully admonish me. Thankfully, ME (suffering from selective deafness) never pays any attention to what I say.

Grannynannywanny Tue 02-Feb-21 15:09:30

Not so much to myself but I find myself talking to the tv. I pass comment on irritating tv presenters, annoying politicians, ridiculous story lines etc.

One day a few months back I was having my daily walk on a quiet country road. I had stopped beside a cow with its head over the fence and had a great chat with her. While I was chatting away to the lovely cow another walker passed me and I hadn’t seen her approaching. She gave me a very wide berth, much more than the required 2 metres.

All the time.I also have the annoying habit of counting when I'm doing something. Having said that, I can't think of an example.

EkwaNimitee Tue 02-Feb-21 15:14:51

I’ve always had the tendency , my late DH would tell me it was an early sign of madness if he caught me! Now I’m alone, I’m doing it all the time, increasingly so in lockdown. I see nothing wrong with it...it helps me get things done, remember what needs doing... I can recall what I said better than what I thought. You just have to be careful it doesn’t become a thoughtless habit so that you catch yourself at it in the supermarket! Though these days, I suppose folk will assume you’re talking to a hidden mobile.

rockgran Tue 02-Feb-21 15:19:02

I often grumble to myself out loud - what's more myself and I always agree!

farview Tue 02-Feb-21 15:21:25

Yes...more so during lockdown...I understand me better than anyone else does ???

Ashcombe Tue 02-Feb-21 15:22:12

When I pour a drink for myself, I always say, “Cheers, S****y!”

paddyanne Tue 02-Feb-21 15:40:09

I talk to my cats ,and I'm convinced they answer .My GD used to say God made a huge mistake when he made cats ,they SHOULD be able to talk,I wouldn't go that far ,mine could be cheeky wee beggers but a a wee miaow in the right place is appreciated

LadyGracie Tue 02-Feb-21 15:44:19

I talk to the cat and myself. I also make strange noises.

Tweedle24 Tue 02-Feb-21 15:47:28

I have long involved conversations with my two cats. I don’t think they take much notice though, as they are usually asleep.
