Do you collect anything ?

On my travels (!) I collect interesting pebbles for my kitchen windowsill. When I handle them I'm "transported" back to their place of origin.

I also keep a selection of cones from different conifer trees. These look good as Christmas decorations or as a mulch for plants in containers - although squirrels nick them, given the chance.

Nothing in particular. I remember my DH asking ages ago when the kids were little if I wanted any figurines etc, just so they would have something easy to pick out for a gift! No thanks...

I do however look to purchase pottery bowls or vases when I travel, but I see these as more practical than actual collections.

I`ve been collecting Lilliput Lane houses for about 25 years, but don`t have an awful lot as they`re not cheap. They`re fetching silly money now since the firm closed down. I also like cat ornaments, but only realistic looking ones, not the ones wearing daft grins. Then I like very small ornaments for my cabinet, particularly crystal. I think my family are ready to bin them all when I kick the bucket, but I like them!

If any of you are disposing of collections, it is worth investigating selling on ebay, or even at auction before you give them to a charity shop.

As a child I was not really into dolls but I did have a Sindy doll with auburn hair and a few outfits. A few years ago I was looking on eBay at 60s toys and saw an auburn haired Sindy. It brought back so many memories of my childhood that I bought it and from then started collecting Sindy dolls and outfits from the 60s. I love them to bits and most of the clothes were really well made. They also show fashion in the 60s. I have started collecting some 70s Sindy dolls and clothes but they are expensive now and sadly I can only afford to add to my collection on rare occasions.

I have a small collection of Napoleonic military figures. Good ones are hard to come by, hence it is still a small collection! I also collected small silver items such as calling card cases and Vesta cases until we ran out of space to display them so collecting has come to a halt. I keep an eye on silver auctions though just in case anything special comes up.

Ro60 Chalet School books are by Elinor M Brent-Dyer, but Angela Brazil also wrote really good school stories.

I have a growing collection of pebbles & rocks collected over the years with curious looking 'fossils'? At some point I want to attend some classes to understand them more. Slight problem these days as I've move to the coast. ? - sea glass too looks lovely in my glass bowl.

Another Chalet School fan were they by Angela Brazil?

Looking around I'm gathering a few rabbits but only get one if it's really special.

This post makes me feel more Normal as my daughter's are always asking when I'm going to get rid of my books!
I still have a large collection of dolls from different countries as was the way - way back when.. Now all boxed up.

Jugs. I use them all and have a special display cabinet in the kitchen. I also love earrings and have dozens of pairs. Friends and family always know what to buy me for presents. I could add shoes... not too sure how many pairs I have!

Grannybags I’m the same, I’m the same, can’t abide clutter.

After reading your comments and adding my own, saying that I collect sea glass and also china cups and saucers, I realise that I’ve omitted something very significant that I collect! That “something” is left-over wool, fabric, ribbons, buttons, laces etc etc in case needed for craft projects. Can’t believe I left them out as my small box room is a dedicated sewing room and all my craft stuff is in there, just waiting for the next project. I have been having a break from sewing (don’t know why!) but it’s all there for me when the urge to stitch comes back, as it surely will as it has done before.

Carltonware red china. I don’t have very much of it, I started with a beautiful preserve pot that had been a wedding gift to my parents and have picked up a few more bits at flea markets.

I’m here Kitty, when we moved I boxed the motto ware up. It’s still boxed in the garage. Eventually it’s on its way to the charity shop!
I also collected Wedgwood glass animal paperweights, some were very expensive. But like many things they are not popular now. They’re also boxed up, but indoors, I don’t want to get rid of them yet.
I did have a large collection of bow brooches, that I wore on jackets when I worked. I’ve reduced those down to a few special ones, by selling them on EBay. Although my fingers itch to buy when I see lovely ones.

£ and €, but don’t seem to have amassed a lot in 65 years.....?

I have lots of odd balls of wool so I have been making the younger grandchildren random coloured jumpers which they seem to like. The youngest one,who only recently started talking, calls me red wool nanna. Some of it is alpaca wool but they wouldn’t know the difference !

I collected coloured glass animals/ shapes either Wedgwood or Caithness . Wedgwood stopped making them ages ago and I have enough now really. All displayed on a small dresser. I also have some from Prague as the glass there was beautiful and much less expensive so couldn’t resist. I love them all even though daughters think they are clutter.

I also have a collection of Chalet School books and loved reading them. I kept them and eldest daughter also read them when she was younger. I haven’t got them all and some of the oldest ones are now out of print.

I have a collection of various decorative silver spoons. They are displayed in a box frame which hangs on the dining room wall.
Recently I have been collecting antique silver needle cases. These will be displayed in a similar walk.
I do also have an ever changing collection of various craft materials. I used to think the amount I had was becoming a bit ridiculous. However I have used so much during the last year I will need to replenish.

I used to collect Mottoware (where are you J52?) but have recently tried to streamline my bits and Bob's so only have a few pieces out now. The rest is boxed up in the roof for the children to discover - it still won't be worth anything!!

Not a collector here. I once innocently mentioned I’d seen a cute little ‘Cherished Teddy’ ornament - so Christmas, Birthdays, Mother’s Days - that was what I got. Eventually I had to call a halt and they’re packed away in the loft. I never intended to collect them - just dust gatherers, but I can’t get rid of them, knowing how DDs would have chosen each so carefully. I did fancy collecting Ditchburn paper weights but talked myself out of it. Only have one room with a few random bits and bobs.

Ooh, having read some posts, I remembered my complete collection of Chalet School hardback books that I accumulated from childhood.

In the past I collected those small coffee cups and saucers as I like small things - a bit odd perhaps as I can't drink strong coffee. I've a few miniature china cats and I love books but since I downsized I haven't the space to indulge new additions.
For my hobby of patchwork I collect fabric fat quarters but have lost my sewing mojo at the moment. It'll come back in its own good time.
