Accents, Do you have a fav?

Lovely to have so many accents to listen to. Love Southern Irish (family memories), French, Italian and Brummie. Dislike Cockney and American.

And how could I forget my own dear late DH's lovely soft Lancashire accent? Miss him.

I like all regional accents; it would be a shame if we all sounded the same. London Cockney is my favourite though, then I feel at home even though I left London years ago.

Love a Irish accent! But thank you as I am a unashamed Geordie and won’t apologise for it! I would like to think I’m a posh Robson green but I’m told I’m not ha ha??

We had a repair man visit the other day and he had a lovely voice and a Belfast accent. Not one I would single out as pleasant to listen to but he had a gentle, calming voice. For me it is the sound of the voice (timbre?) not particularly where a person comes from. At the moment (probably because of Trump-ites and too much U.S. television) I am finding many American accents really annoying. I have to turn the sound off some programmes! Again it is the whining, mangling, slurring, nasal gurning sounds that annoy me the most. Oh dear I have spent too long indoors!

A particular South African accent. My test is how they say wildebeest. I love the shifting ee. Plus all other accents. Not forgetting the ‘authentic’ pronunciation of Shakespeare (Ben Crystal) - lovely touches of Brummie.

I think it's great having such a variety of accents in the UK and we should enjoy and encourage them all. It's good that accents other than RP are now acceptable in the media.
I'm Scottish and like many of our country's varied accents. I do really love hearing a Welsh accent though.
Really like the French language in general and also think English spoken with a French accent sounds lovely.

Love Brummie and Irish, not at all keen on Mancunian

I like most accents and think that it's a pity that so many people have tried to lose them. Favourites - Suffolk (Ralph Fiennes does a pretty good job in The Dig) and the American deep south just like Reginald D Hunter.

I adore all accents too. Love Jamie Carragher commentating with his hypnotic Liverpool twang, Irish is beautiful, Birmingham accent is friendly, and Welsh Huw Edward’s reading the News! Mind you Huw Edward’s is gorgeous too, putty in his hands I’d be!! ???

West Country - even so that can vary greatly so I mean a gentle burr and the same with Welsh as some are lilting and musical and others are quite harsh.

I like the Potteries accent too

I love the gentle highland accent.

Any Scottish Highland accent. Or County Cork.

I had an American granny. She was very old when I knew her and I was the youngest of a big, noisy talkative family and we just naturally seemed to come together when she stayed with us. She had a bad leg and was in constant pain but was always smiling with me. I would help her dress in the mornings, it took a long time and she would tell me stories of life in the American Midwest at the turn of the century. Sometimes when the pain was bad she would reach for my hand and I would squeeze it in sympathy. Whenever I hear that unmistakable accent now I think of her.

My lovely Son-in-law is from N. Ireland and has a lovely soft accent. And of course I'm partial to the Wiltshire accent, which is where I'm from. I always lapse into it when I visit.

I am losing my hearing and use hearing aids. I find accents make it harder to understand people. Some accents are harder than others. A mild accent is ok if they speak clearly but fast speakers with a big accent are really hard.

Welsh, I love hearing it.

I enjoy them all.
It fascinates me that different areas have almost different languages.

I love a soft Lancashire accent , very soft and kind , love Welsh accents too especially Mid Wales,
I am from Liverpool and I have noticed a change in the accent over the years, it’s changed to a lazy guttural drawl. I worked in a lot of places over the years and never heard anything like the accent portrayed now. Ie Brookside. You would never hear The Beatles talk like this. It’s evolved over the years and it’s not as gentle as it used to be, there are a few actors from Liverpool who have the accent and it’s very pleasant to listen too,

Our next youngest Daughter acquired a Welsh Accent whist at university, where she met her then Partner of 4years who came from the Rhonda valley. She spent time living there herself during weekends and holidays with his family on their farm. Sadly, after graduation the cost of long distance travel between their two homes, and the fact that it was left down to her as he needed to work on the family farm, made them decide to split up., although she still speaks with the same accent 8years later!

Geordie, All Irish accents, and Scottish accents. My pet hates are Brummie, Scouser and Cockney. They grate on my ears.

For me it is North East too as one side of my family from there and it seems familiar . Also Gaelic the same as apparently am 32% Scottish . Love the music .

French for me. Used to eat in a restaurant where there was a French waiter called Sebastian. I went weak at the knees every time he spoke. Annoyed DH somewhat.
Like Geordie too but when I go to Newcastle DH has to translate.

Eagleswings, that's interesting, as many people don't like Bristolian (I'm born and bred 'Brizzle').

I detest 'cut-glass' accents (sorry Your Majesty!), but love Geordie, Liverpudlian, Brummie, Scottish and Irish.
