HMRC slightly angry is an understatement
Good Morning Saturday 25th April 2026
Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark, and its ben snowing but not much from the looking out of my window here in brackley.
Looked properly at my discharge from hospital papers, changes slightly in medication , plus next month I will have monitor fitted to me to measure my heart rate over a given period.
Otherwise OK .
Take Care,
Mick
Morning from Yorkshire very cold today had a sprinkling of snow overnight .Good news about baby marydoll sounds like a good size .keep safe everyone ..
I have just read your news Marydoll sorry you still haven't been given a vax apptment but at least the df's DGD is stable and on course to have the baby.
Grammaretto Having the vaccine was a doddle but I think you’re very wise to have a chauffeur. I’m just going to rest until I feel better, Mr. B is bringing me tea and porridge ?
Good morning everyone from a sunny South Manchester. It must have been very cold in the night as we have a light dusting of snow on the decking outside our front door. I woke at 7am to use the bathroom then decided to snuggle back into my warm bed for a bit longer - then promptly fell asleep for another two hours!
No plans at all for today. Apart from the grocery shopping downstairs in Sainsbury’s. No rush to get there so think after this cuppa I’ll make us fried bacon & egg on toast then we will write the list for Himself. Well, they do say not to go shopping when you’re hungry! Actually being serious, writing a list & sticking to it (which Himself is very good at) means we are spending less on housekeeping these weeks. Plus I can’t get out to spend any of my state pension so that is sitting happily in my bank! (for now)
I’ve noticed Himself needs a haircut he looks as though he has got owl ears ...
Hope Monday is good to us all. I’m going to read all the 50 posts I’m behind on ❤️ and will pop back later. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x
Good morning from Cumbria where the sun is shining and the snow falling horizontally......not lying anywhere that I can see.
Have attached photo ( I think) from Friday's walk as colours on the bay looked so lovely, not sure my phone camera does it justice tho. There is a stone wall too....don't all my photos...some inspiration for you sparklefizz, loved your painting.
Had a very windy weekend here and an eventful saturday night. I had banked up the multifuel stove before going to bed, we leave it on 24/7 over the winter and it keeps the room (and the Bobby dog) so cosy. After tootling about in the bathroom I luckily popped back in to get a glass of water to find the room full of smoke ?. Cue opening all the windows and dragging Mr Happy from his slumbers. We think judging by the smell
that the chimney liner had become detached in the wind, sliding down chimney and causing it to block. Had to empty the hot coals out the stove into a bucket and dash outside with them whilst dancing around the dog. Catastrophe averted but now no cosy stove....and it is cold?.....poor Bobby shivering in his basket this morning.
Sorry so many of our posters feeling down this weekend, so many frustrations at the moment that are beyond our control. Wishing everyone a good day today and feeling happy for all those getting their vaccines. And so pleased Nancy and Dumpy Bag have found each other .
Good morning from the Sefton coast where an hour ago delicate snow flakes drifted in the air, ‘lightly salting’ the landscape.
That’s encouraging news about mum and baby, Marydoll. I wish I could say the same about your vax, though. Shouldn’t shielders be a priority?
Your poor DGS, Susan56. Let’s hope he quickly forgets the experience.
I’m having my vax today as are many others on here. Hopefully there’ll be a florist near the centre so I can pick up some tulips and daffs. All pointers to Spring are welcome chez nous.
Thinking of those with troubles and worries. Have the best day you can everyone. x
Good morning from Morecambe Bay where it’s a blue sky, calm and no snow! I suspect it’s cold out there, but will investigate that later as I will venture out for a walk.
I’m going to sloth less today, and abandon my IPad and do something, anything, more creative. What, I’m not quite sure. I will rummage through my craft box and decide. But first it’s sort out the Sainsbury’s order which I booked last week. That means using the iPad. Oh dear that’s not a good start to my intentions.
Take care, stay safe everyone ?
Re the subject of food orders: our requested cod in butter sauce morphed into frozen butternut squash. Errr???
Good Morning all from Harrogate with a thin layer of snow.
Spent too long on the phone already. An Asian gentleman seemed to think I would type "validator" into my laptop. He insisted he was from Virgin Media. The worrying thing was he knew my name and DH's name. I do know if I were to phone Virgin `Media I'd be lucky to get through to them this week!!
My busy day will be chatting on the phone and cooking meals, nothing much else doing
Will check messages later
Hopes those with worries and not feeling good, soon feel better!!
Sparklefizz, we use an ethernet cable from our router to our TV so we don't have to rely on WiFi.
Good Morning All x.
Sunshine first thing, then a flurry of snow, more like someone shaking a feather cushion rather than a good shower of it. Greyness in the sky now though I don't think we're in for anything more than a light dusting.
Bed changeing today, which now reminds me of the time I was side-tracked and like baubles forgot to make it up----not nice when you're just ready to climb into it.
Marydoll your talent knows no bounds---car mechanic, IT technician, what a wizard. Well done yourself, cake-making a speciality.
How heartwarming to read of mother cow, Sheepandcattle it must be a relief when this happens. I've seen on TV how ewes cope with a ( rejected) lamb as it will have an improvised woolly coat on, for recognition, but you can't do that for a calf. It's a mark of good farming and care for the animals. A 24hr day job.
A Very Happy Birthday to MrGinny
Crumpets eaten so now off to do a bit---notice I said a bit
Must make sure I make up the bed, without any interruptions.
I think I need to order some medication/s so will check on that.
Glad that you're being sorted out Mick just take advantage of this lockdown to heal and rest yourself.
Take care everyone and stay safe from falls if it's tricky underfoot. Hope Gilly hasn't got the bad weather just to add to everything else x.
Beautiful blue sky and sunshine here on the Costa Mersey and it's 0 degrees----doesn't feel it inside and I've got no heating on !
Keep well everyone, thinking of Auntieflo too x
Good Morning everyone ?♀️ from S. ?? where it’s colder today but dry and sunny. Have just been playing ‘Win-A-Vaccine’ on my iPad......no chance, no appointments anywhere. Maybe I’ll just frame my Government letter and give up on the whole idea.
Wishing you a wonderfully Happy ? Birthday, MrGinny....go a bit mad, have 2 slices!
See lots of snow is imposing some limitations on those who have important business away from their fireside. Be careful chaps, stay upright. Thick socks over shoes or boots, if you have no traction?
Snow can’t affect life on the farm sheep, can it? No wonder you dress like the Michelin Man....keeping warm is vital out there, but it’s very tiring I found - when we had lots of animals. Sometimes easier to just be outside than grappling with the whole dress/undress palaver and the endless sharp changes in temperature. When I had fed and watered, collected eggs and organised everyone, I used to hang out with my woolly women in the sheepshed for a while. All that huffing and puffing (not me ?) as they munched their hay soon raised the temperature and lifted my spirits on winter mornings. You must love the life you have - in spite of the heavy paracetamol costs. ? Take care - those beasts are so lovely but definitely unwieldy!
Mick glad to hear you’re going to be monitored after your meds. change. Maybe give yourself a chance to adapt and have the hospital happy with your progress before you fully resume your old routine ?
Forgetting that the bed has not been made up with fresh linen until bedtime ? is one thing that makes me crazy, baubles. Maybe it’s the riotous and exciting lives we all lead which can distract us so easily these days. Or maybe not?
Carrot soup and soda bread for lunch. Awaiting a large delivery of paint from the UK. Thanks to the Logistics companies not being anywhere near ready for the 31st December deadline...or even now, we were given a delivery date of 4 or 5 days and we paid the carriage charge. So far, so normal. What fun to wait almost 3 weeks whilst our paint was held to ransom in Marseille (we found it eventually), until the French customs collected from us the small extra charge of £230 !!! The paint shop and the actual international carrier have shared that cost because no one gave a thought to what might happen after 31 December when they accepted our order and took our payment. I am now waiting to see whether my tea (from Ireland) is delivered with a demand for money from the Postie. If so, that has to be the end of our buying English goods. A sad day for us because although most of our purchases are made here, I do occasionally feel it’s lovely to buy from somewhere like Lakeland. No more, since no one has any idea as to the end cost.
Hoping Mum to be and that big baby (our son was 9lbs) will be delivered safely this week. To everyone feeling low - from a bit despondent to pretty awful - sending warm wishes and the strength to deal with your struggles today. Take care of yourselves, be kind and patient with yourselves and everyone else, and give yourselves a massive pat on the back for coping and getting through it all. We won’t let this plague win, will we? We’re Grans and we’ll cope.
Stay safe all. ???????????????
Good Morning Mick and all. I have been up for nearly 3 hours. Enjoyed my dog walk this morning, except Mya threw up her breakfast as soon as we got outside. `Do suspect it the meat was too cold. I usually let it get to room temp from the fridge..
-1 outside and clear blue skies here in Cornwall.
Sewing is the main item on the 'to do' list. Then some research for curtains for bedroom now it's finished.
Take care Mick.
Pittcity
*Sparklefizz*, we use an ethernet cable from our router to our TV so we don't have to rely on WiFi.
Thanks Pittcity. I think I might have to do this but the ethernet cable supplied with the router is not long enough. I'll have to see what I can sort out.
Happyme That's a fantastic photo. Do you mind if I steal it as I'd love to paint it. I'm working on something else at the moment but I have a strong urge to put that aside and tackle a dry stone wall instead!
I loved the snow photos! Thank you.
Rissoles Gingster how yummy! That brought back memories. I used to love the Bird’s Eye ones many years ago until they stopped selling them.
?
No heating in our little place either EV! The main room is south facing and deliciously cosy. I even had to take my cardigan off in there just now. Nice - keeps the electricity bills down too.
Many happy returns of the day to your husband ginny. ?
And it’s good to hear you’ve got your driving confidence back Marydoll I bet that alone has lifted your spirits!
Morning from a bright sunny S Lanarkshire, also very cold. baubles I absolutely would have got into that spare bed! In fact I have done exactly that. I suspect it’s easier to do that when there’s no husband who has to agree, men are more creatures of habit!
A bit of tidying today, bubble daughter and granddaughter might come over for a walk and a quick visit during this holiday week, They should have been in Seville and I don’t think a cup of hot soup standing just inside my door is going to match up!
Wishing everyone a good day
Good morning from Fife. The sun is shining and we can see blue skies instead of grey clouds and everywhere is covered in snow. Will have to stay indoors again.
Good morning from a very bright northwest coast. Blue skies, but cold. I might take myself for an exciting walk, window shopping, although sadly so many shops have closed.
Had a good time painting and collaging (?) yesterday then cosied up with an early Poirot on tv, but think I have seen it before. The Plymouth Express. I’m not keen on rewatching things, but as there’s a steam train involved, don’t mind and I never remember a plot and sometimes don’t really understand them. As I was meant to go on the Orient Express last year, it’s a substitute ?
Take it easy Mick . Thinking of Georgesgran and Auntieflo.?
Good morning all from a white, windy and "really quite cold" Angus coast. We are having bright sunshine and blue skies interchanging with white-out conditions this morning. Lovely to see everybody's snow pictures - snow is so pretty, if only it wasn't so cold!
Had an interesting start to the day as I woke up to no heating. (House temperature 10°C) The boiler was serviced in December and the oil topped up last week, so I couldn't think why. Eventually tracked down an engineer, who would be out "within the hour", so grabbed myself a quick shower (I was getting hot water, surprisingly) and got dressed - and then discovered that I'd left the hot tap running all night in the en suite. Turned that off and then sat down to wait for the heating man ........ and discovered the radiators were beginning to heat up! Hastily cancelled engineer, swallowing a huge chunk of humble pie as you can imagine. What an idiot to leave a tap running - but I had no idea that something like that would stop the heating working. Lesson well and truly learned!
How I love your tales from the calving shed Sheep and also love that you're wearing the same outfit as your two-year-old self! Make sure you get a photo of yourself wearing it to put beside the old one.
Well, after all that excitement I think it's time for a second cup of coffee and a more leisurely scroll through this thread. So glad to hear you're being well looked after Mick. Take care everyone - and don't go out unless you really, really have to. ?
Morning everyone from a very cold NE, actually had a layering of snow this morning, the first this winter so can't grumble. My dh is having his Vax tomorrow, waiting to hear about mine. We have had a very busy as we are moving. After waiting nearly 3 years we have finally go the 2 bed flat that we need, but its twice as hard moving during the covid, so could be another couple of weeks before we actually move. This will be our last move, so want to make sure everything is just right. I don't post very often, as its normally late morning/lunchtime before I get round to reading the posts, usually while eating my lunch at my desk. I can officially retire this end of this month, but I am going to work a few months longer, just see how we go and how well my DH keeps. Thinking of everyone who aren't well, and hope everyone keeps safe.
Glad to hear you are home again and reasonably okay, Michael.
Here (South Denmark) it is still snowing for the fourth day, but the gale we had yesterday has died down. Minus 2 C, so staying indoors.
A bird has taken refuge in the workshop, much to the cat's disgust! Hope it stays aloft above the cat's reach.
Good morning all,
the expected 30 cm deep snowfall has not happened in this area. Neither have we had the ice rain. Luckily. All the same I was shipping snow of my path last night at 9.30 pm. It`s rather cold now as we are experiencing a sharp cold wind from the east. I took my dog out with me to give my elderly friend, (even though I would be classed as elderly as well) some banana cake which I had made. Unfortunatels my dog, ran off into the street further away from ours. He saw the yellow post van. He loves the postman. I was shouting, but he couldn`t hear me. He is rather deaf. Actually it`s a she. So, I had to go home to collect my whistle. And 3/4 of an hour later I found him. A lady had put a lead on her. But, as the main road is sometimes rather busy I had some rather anxioux moments until I found her. That`s enough excitement for the day.
I shall just watch television and maybe finish the sock I have been knitting for the last 2 years.
I hope that you are all keeping as well as possible. Take care.x
Sorry forgot to tell our other good news, we now have a new grandaughter, our darling eldest daughter is fostering and going to adopt, and and in January our 3rd great grandson was born, both are lovely, see the grandaughter as we have a bubble with my DD, but will have to wait until we travel to go and see the new dggs.
