Is it legitimate to say "There is no racism" if you don't understand the references being used? Shouldn't you if accusations are made at least investigate the basis for the allegations? It is easy to do with the internet today. I wonder if such ignorance would be acceptable for denying other forms of discrimination? I don't think so.

What I believe to be true are the following statements:

Meghan has been confronted with racism both by the press and within some people's negative opinions of her.

M&H's current actions are provoking debt and discussion, some of which may have it's roots in the racist views held by some people.

The racism is there, but it's not the sole crux of the current conversation.

To start a thread on white privilege and racism? Might be interesting, but will probably either be ignored or deleted as it's not something people often discuss well. A shame because it's a conversation should have more I think.

I don't think it is entirely the reason for what went on. But I think it certainly contributed. I can't imagine what it must be like to see your origins and famly described in ways which you know are derogatory. I think there is also the issue that as a member of the RF you cannot reply or combat the information because it isn't what they do.

Yes, I can agree with what you've said. It must have been horrendous, but I can't see how it would have been unexpected. I suspect the reason the RF neither complain or explain is because with their vast experience, it's a hiding to nothing.

It may be why they are distancing themselves from M&H....
