I personally knew a rich married couple now deceased who quietly gave away most of their money to found and endow homes for disadvantaged boys, as the did not "need" the money.

nanna8 I think the difference between the British royal family and foreign very rich rulers is many British people regard the Queen and to a lesser extent her relations as a religion , and that she sets a moral example to all people rich and poor .

Now, the Queen appears to belong firmly to the set of rich aristocrats and plutocrats i.e. less than 1% of the population.

A question about the baby's skin tone is most likely to stem from interest in inheriting any trait from ancestors. Why is that question malevolent? I am surprised a popular, beautiful, successful woman like Meghan would believe the question to be motivated by racism and not mild interest such as for example wondering if the baby will inherit Prince Phillip's aquiline beauty.

Now forewarned, we would not venture to say anything about inheritance of skin tones to anybody except a disinterested scientist for fear of being called a racist.

I have read stories about black or brown people being physically attacked and injured or even murdered in the streets, or denied jobs or houses because their skin was the 'wrong' colour. This was obviously not the case with the Duke and Duchess.

I am not a monarchist, never have been, though way back when the Plantagenets were my ancestors. They got rid of them those terrible Tudors and it seems that the Markle family are working on getting rid of the Well off Windsors.

I had an uncle who was a Communist who lived in abject poverty with his long-suffering wife----his choosing, but a well read man who many years ago played the violin in the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He lived up to his beliefs by living frugally in a dingy ( rented ) flat in Liverpool, except that there was a whole wall of books on every subject imaginable which bore proof of his knowledge.

His hobby was writing in Braille and him and auntie attended " ban the bomb" walks with Michael Foote at Aldermaston.

On any correspondence he used to send me, on the back was a label---Pravda ( it was a Russian newspaper ) which he supported. His family owned a shipping line but he didn't want to know because money wasn't his forte, as it isn't if you're a true communist----so bear that in mind when jokes are made about being communists, it's not funny !

Well, Grany. I once saw the corpse of Vladimir Lenin, who was a well known Communist, and he had the smell of embalming fluid. He was quite dead, like his ideology.
