Some news about our H o S
RF family want their 1969 documentary to be taken off air. The Queen was talking in it about a governor that looked like a gorilla, in one little clip, of docu seen on twitter.

Queen doesn't want her various shares and their values in companies made public too embarrassing. And lobbied in the 70s to be made exempt from new law. She has millions in off shore accounts.

P Charles land owner lobbied to be exempt from new leaseholder legislation that would have allowed homeowners to buy the land their property sits on.

And when people from the Duchy die with no living relatives P Charles gets the money, with other landowners around the country money goes to the treasury

Then there is Andrew

The 20,000 Sandringham Estate gets millions in subsidies

Queen gets her Wendy house refurbished to her own specifications including a new thatched roof.

Meanwhile in other news a little boy stole a tin of soup because he was so hungry, never mind.

Is it legitimate to say "There is no racism" if you don't understand the references being used? Shouldn't you if accusations are made at least investigate the basis for the allegations? It is easy to do with the internet today. I wonder if such ignorance would be acceptable for denying other forms of discrimination? I don't think so.

If they don’t see it, if it doesn’t affect them

It doesn’t exist.

Who needs research or empathy to others lived experiences?

It was written when they first became a couple, why didn’t they speak out then

Perhaps it was a death by 1000 papercuts?

Fair observation, but if that's true what is it now? Blatant self harm?

Going on Oprah isn't an act of self preservation unless they have learned nothing at all.

meghan and harry had a fabulous wedding at st george'schapel and thousands lined the streets and cheered... where was the racism?

if a person has a nasty side does it have to be papered over if they are 'of colour' are they all nice is it only white people who can be 'disliked' because of the way they are?

Can I use my D-word again?

It is entirely acceptable to criticise someone's behaviour or character based on those things alone. It is entirely unacceptable to try to stereotype someone according to where their mother lives or what kind of hairstyle they have, especially if those things have negative undertones related to race.

Anniebach Tue 02-Mar-21 12:57:45

The Queen has been criticised because two cousins were place in a mental institution . Prince Phillip called Phil the Greek on this forum .

Alegrias1 Tue 02-Mar-21 13:02:29

Did I say either of those things were acceptable?

maddyone Tue 02-Mar-21 13:05:20

Well that must be alright then Annie.
I’m speaking sarcastically of course. But realistically it does appear to be ok to criticise the Queen because of the two cousins who were put into care, and it’s ok to call Prince Philip, Phil the Greek (something I called out as racist at the time it written.) But it’s not okay to criticise Meghan and Harry’s behaviour for anything. Everything they do is supported by some posters. They refuse to see any wrong.
I call it double standards.

Anniebach Tue 02-Mar-21 13:13:18

Agree maddyone it is double standards

NellG Tue 02-Mar-21 13:13:29

I'm not sure you can Alegrias, as it only applies when someone is deliberately under representing their knowledge of a subject. If they're asking questions using scenarios they have witnessed (and experienced a response to) that they don't believe were racist, that's not disingenuous. It might represent a lack of awareness in some cases, but unless you see that kind of casual racism in people's posts I don't know if finger pointing is particularly helpful.

Anniebach With all due respect for the bazillion posts since, it was me who brought up the cousins originally and it wasn't in criticism of the Queen, it was as an illustration of how in the past the RF as an institution has not been openly empathetic to it's own members. There's a big difference. As has been pointed out, the Queen was too young to have been involved in any decision about he cousins.

Anniebach Tue 02-Mar-21 13:16:56

NellG , you replied as I did to a post which brought up the cousins

Galaxy Tue 02-Mar-21 13:18:33

But calling Phil the Greek is wrong as well. I dont know that there is any one on here who has said otherwise. That doesnt mean that Meghan didnt experience racism.

EllanVannin Tue 02-Mar-21 13:22:34

You'll soon see what their gripes are about when the Oprah show is televised. Silly pair---wait for the excuses. What a bad move this is.

NellG Tue 02-Mar-21 13:27:14

I don't think it's going to do them any favours EV, in fact I think it will make the negative attention they receive even worse.

Alegrias1 Tue 02-Mar-21 13:29:54

Well NellG if I can't use my D-word, the people who think all these things aren't racist might be humble enough to read the posts by other posters on this thread and try to understand what racism is all about, instead of trotting out the usual excuses of double standards, misdirection and "I didn't know".

GrannyGravy13 Tue 02-Mar-21 13:37:38

There were three clips of Harry saying he wanted to leave the UK and how he felt about the press shown on TV earlier today. These were many many years before he met Meghan.

Anniebach Tue 02-Mar-21 13:42:58

Then he didn’t leave to protect his wife, he left because he has wanted out of his family and the uk for many years ?

NellG Tue 02-Mar-21 13:56:29

As an aside, and as you've been here longer than I have Alegrias has there ever been a thread on 'our' racism and exercise of white privilege? If there was, did it go down the pan because people are pillocks and got arsey and if there wasn't is it worth starting one? Or is it the path to banishment?

I ask because I honestly believe it's a timely discussion to have, and not just in relation to H&M.

trisher Tue 02-Mar-21 13:57:16

I can't imagine what it must be like to lose your mother as a child and then to grow up and realise that she has left accounts about how she suffered because of the very people who have raised you, that your Grandmother would have ignored your mother's death if she hadn't been pushed to do something by the then PM, and that your father had had a relationship throughout his marriage. That's an awful lot to take in. It must make life difficult to say the least.

EllanVannin Tue 02-Mar-21 14:15:09

It certainly won't be in favour of a lot of Americans who flock to this country just to see the Palace and surrounding areas. They love the Royals and wish they had them in their country.
Who wouldn't after Trump? grin

Bridgeit Tue 02-Mar-21 14:23:14

The Queen would have Ignored Diane’s death ?
Really, can you expand on this comment?

Alegrias1 Tue 02-Mar-21 14:36:31

NellG I haven't seen a thread like that, I'm not sure how it would go. You could try!

Callistemon Tue 02-Mar-21 14:42:57

that your Grandmother would have ignored your mother's death if she hadn't been pushed to do something by the then PM

I don't know where that was reported but it isn't true as far as I know.

The Queen took the two boys to Balmoral to allow them to grieve for their mother in private away from the glare of publicity. They must have been suffering from shock and the family were there for them.

What Blair did was disgraceful, forcing the HM to bring out those young boys to be paraded and photgraphed for the gratification of the public.

Alegrias1 Tue 02-Mar-21 14:44:22

I have a view on this Bridgeit. At the time of Diana's death the Queen, Charles and both her sons were in Scotland. At Balmoral I think. They stayed there for the first few days after the death and presumably appreciated the isolation that being in their country house allowed them.

However I do remember the calls for "Where is our Queen?" Answer: in her own house, helping her recently bereaved grandchildren.

The kerfuffle over the Royal Standard not being flown at half mast, even though that is not the appropriate thing to do.

The calls for a State Funeral, when there was no precedent for that.

The complaints about the Queen not showing enough sadness, even though she had previously been praised for her stiff upper lip.

But mostly, the expectation among the Great British public that 2 bereaved children should be present in London and show themselves in public to make the masses feel better.

These are the expectations of a Royal Family.
