Do you have biscuits with a cup of tea?

I've developed quite a habit of having a biscuit with every cup of tea. Considering I drink up to 8 cups a day I'm starting to think this is bad lol.

As from tomorrow I'm cutting it down to 1 in 2

10 days ago I would have said yes but I'm currently cutting them all out. I regularly make a batch of what I call oaties. A bit like a flat flapjack packed with seeds, dried fruit and ginger. Had one of those every day with mid afternoon coffee.

Husband says all hot drinks are too wet without one so he's got a stash of digestives, bourbons and gingernuts.

Reading this thread is making me twitchy! I see dark chocolate digestives and chocolate malted milk mentioned, Two of my favourites.

My grandmother lived to the ripe old age of 103 and never would have what she called a ‘dry cup of tea’, that is, without a biscuit or a piece of cake!
What are the best dunking biscuits do you think? It’s quite a skill to get it right, with no dropping!

MissAdventure Mon 15-Feb-21 20:49:22

I can't finish my drink if I know it's got a bit of soggy biscuit in.
Ginger nuts are good for a dip. Oooh err missus!!

Rich tea are a favourite, but drop in easily. Custard creams do surprisingly well in the dunking stakes.

Agree MissAdventure gingernuts perfect, rich tea gets soggy too quickly and either drops into tea or down your front. Knew someone who dipped jaffa cakes....sacrelidge!

MissAdventure Mon 15-Feb-21 21:00:07

Oh I do love a custard cream or six

MissAdventure Mon 15-Feb-21 21:02:05

I find rich tea sneaky buggers.
They look as if they're still intact, and suddenly.... plop!

Anybody still have a Ringtons van deliver?

Ringtons tea and biscuits are the best !

M0nica Mon 15-Feb-21 21:08:13

No

annodomini Mon 15-Feb-21 21:26:13

I probably would but don't have them in the house because I am avoiding unnecessary carbs, and biscuits are not strictly necessary...are they?

MissAdventure Mon 15-Feb-21 21:27:40

I have to buy bourbons, because I don't like them much.

Kim19 Mon 15-Feb-21 21:45:35

My neighbour has regular Ringtons delivery.

MissAdventure Mon 15-Feb-21 22:14:50

What's a Ringtons van?
A van just full of biscuits?

polomint Mon 15-Feb-21 22:23:16

No way could I have a cup of tea or coffee without a biscuit...I thought everyone did! A ginger nut ( or 2 ), rich tea, jaffa cake, a scone, pie e of cake...anything really but must have something

Mapleleaf Mon 15-Feb-21 22:25:34

Ringtons tea, MissAdventure. They started life in the North East, I believe, delivering teas & biscuits in a van to customers. They are still on the go, but I don't t know how far spread they are.

MissAdventure Mon 15-Feb-21 22:25:58

My neighbour made some bread pudding, and she really does make the best I've tasted.

I put the kettle on, made me tea, went to get the pud, and my blooming grandson had eaten it!

MissAdventure Mon 15-Feb-21 22:29:58

Well, I never knew that, mapleleaf. smile
It sounds quaint, and I love quaint.

I agree MissAdventure, tricky to get right.
There should be biscuit dunking olympics, different classes for different biscuits. The winner is the longest dunk with no loss. The remaining tea would have to be tested for biscuit content obviously.

MissAdventure Mon 15-Feb-21 22:39:38

grin
I think that's an excellent idea.
I've never been the sporty type, but I would take part in that.

I don’t usually have a bikkie as they call them here. Certainly not with coffee though sometimes if I am with someone else who has one I will have one with tea. I have found it is nice to have a very small tot of whisky in coffee though! Irish anyone ?

FarNorth Mon 15-Feb-21 22:56:29

Usually not but sometimes with coffee, then I end up having far too many.

We have a couple of biscuits with our first coffee of the day - plain digestives usually, or bourbons (very good for dunking). Then we get up. Or we don’t get up, in which case have another cup of coffee and more biscuits!! Can’t eat biscuits with tea!

Maggiemaybe Mon 15-Feb-21 23:21:53

No, I’m not bothered about biscuits.

I did have Valentine chocolates with every cuppa today though, or at least I did till dinner time, when the box was empty.

GrannyRose15 Mon 15-Feb-21 23:42:18

I love to have a biscuit with every cup of tea (about 8 per day) but can't at the moment because I'm counting the calories. It is such a bore.
