When doing the thread about gigs, I got to thinking of all the comedians I've seen live. Not many but these are them
:
Rob Brydon (heard nearly all the material before on TV shows)
Jasper Carrott
French and Saunders
Mark Watson
Jack Whitehall
Sarah Millican
Miranda Hart
But the one that outshines them all was Victoria Wood. Saw her twice and sadly miss her.
One I would love to see is Billy Connolly and a stage performance of The Goons.
Who've you seen or would love/loved to have seen?
Bob Monkhouse so sharpe.
Rob Newman, Dylan Moran... have seen both 3 or 4 times. Laughed so much I cried. Victoria Wood... only once . She was gloriously funny. I love and miss her so much.
Francie and Josie AKA Jack Milroy and Rikki Fulton at the Gaiety Theatre Ayr, and the Kings Theatre Glasgow

and Chick Murray (Billy Connelly's inspiration) also at The Gaiety Theatre

Nowadays the comedian that makes me laugh the most is Lost Voice Guy. He's funny without all the f words that newer comedians seem to think necessary these days. I don't object to some swearing, and in the past I went to see Dave Allen and Max Boyce's shows and they were hilarious. I also like to watch Billy Connelly and Jasper Carrott.
Morecombe and Wise
Billy Connelly
Frankie Howard
Tony Hancock
Mickey Flanagan
Victoria wood
There are others, but these are my favourites.
Billy Connolly
Tommy Cooper
Spike Milligan
Peter Kay
Ken Dodd
The Two Ronnies
Surprised nobody’s mentioned Ricky Gervais!!
Thanks for all the contributions.
So many of you have seen Billy Connolly (jealous) . Another past favourite I'd have loved to have seen live was Dave Allen.
WILTY is my TV favourite. David Mitchell and Lee Mack are brilliant.
We get a few acts coming to Cornwall but not many. I miss the convenience of being mid country (Derbyshire) for going to venues.
Hope all the entertainment peeps are coping. Saw Noel Fielding on Grayons's Art Club during lockdown. Excellent.
a stage performance of The Goons
Muse If you mean what I think you mean, then "No Way"
The magic of the Goons lay essentially with "steam radio" and resided entirely within your own imagination.
Your "Eccles" would look nothing like mine, but they did exactly the same job.
I can think of several radio (and TV) shows that never made it successfully to live stage.

Decades ago my father took me to his work do as mum was working - she was a nurse. Bob Monkhouse was the cabaret. He was so rude and hilarious!!! Later on I saw Billy Connolly in his prime, once at Sydney Opera House. He was so funny I got a tummy ache laughing. We also saw Eddie Izard a couple of times. Falling out of my seat funny,
Saw Billy Connolly back in his prime and he was so funny. I went with my mum who was a bit shocked by the amount of swearing but, like me, was doubled-up with laughter.
Eddie Izzard, who was also very funny. Very glamorous too.
Dylan Morgan. Seen him several times and he was definitely my favourite.
We were going to see Foil, Arms and Hog but it didn't happen. Hopefully we'll see them if and when it's safe for them to tour again. If you are not familiar with them, they are a trio of young Irish comedians who put a little sketch on YouTube every week. I don't suppose they would appeal to everyone but they make me laugh, particularly clips such as "Spending Lock Down With Your Parents." Hog, who plays the mum, has perfected the slow, disapproving look that we mothers do so well!
I would also like to see Michael Spicer, whose series "The Room Next Door" - again, on YouTube - was so brilliant.
The only comedian I have ever seen live is Eddie Izzard. On the radio, I love Mark Steele and John Finnemore. I did love Miranda on TV. But I find series like Cabin Pressure and Gloomsbury on radio 4 much funnier than stand-up routines.
Moran, not Morgan. Stupid auto-correct.
I saw Jack Dee a few weeks before we locked down, it was the last time I left the house I think!
Jim Davidson.
Bradley walsh.
Michael mcIintyre.
Mickley Flanagan, never seen him live.. but would love to go our, out, to see him .
Favourite Comedians
John Bishop
Peter Kay
Omid Jalili.
Lee Mack (on not going out).
Tim Vine
I recently discovered Joel Lycett who is really good.
My daughter and I went to see Michael McIntyre and we were aching and sore the next day from laughing so much. ?????
Sadly only one live, Miranda Hart. She was so funny, could have sat through the whole show a second time.
David Mitchell
Victoria wood was hilarious. Peter Kay was too.
We saw Victoria Wood early in her career, we drove across the M62, then down to Felixstowe and we were still laughing. Such a writing talent, especially Dinnerladies, anyone who's worked in a largely female environment,

Victoria wood was hilarious. Peter Kay was too.
I don't find Peter Kay all that funny, most of my friends when I was still working thought I was mad but I also can't stand Fools and Horses, estuary English is cringeful.
Jasper Carrott. Had old cassette tapes of his act in the car years ago. Some absolute classics! “Only one way to get rid of a mole.....”. Have seen him twice recently touring with Bev Bevan and others doing both comedy and 60s music. Just as funny now.
Stewart Francis. Love his puns and one liners but exhausting as hes so “quick” and you dont want to miss anything. Love him. Laughed all the way home.
The Fast Show with Paul Whitehouse and co, Harry Enfield and chums. Saw them at Hammersmith a few years ago. And Catherine Tate. ( on TV)
A recent convert to James Acaster. Again you need to concentrate to keep up with him. Would love to see him live.
Oh yeah. Rhod Gilbert. His rants are so funny. The electric toothbrush sketch. And the last mince pie. Again would love to see him live.
Great post. Might have couple of hours later catching up with some of these.
Victoria Wood tops my list, so sad she died so young. Jasper Carrott is great - saw him a couple of times and loved his curry sketch. Had a tape (remember those!?) of him riffing on his visit to Hong Kong - we were living there at the time and he caught it exactly but friends just didn't get it! Saw Billy Connolly out in HK a couple of times too - very good (but you had to ignore the language!)
I like Michael McIntyre's stand up but not his TV show, liked Dawn French in The Vicar of Dibley but not a fan of her and Jennifer Saunders's stand up and I don't like Miranda Hart I'm afraid. I think I'd like to see John Bishop though
I’ve hardly seen any live, only Bob Monkhouse, who was very funny, and a very long time ago the Danish Victor Borge, whose humour was mostly music-based. I was only in my teens at the time, and laughed till I was nearly sick.
I never saw Ken Dodd, but I wish I had. People who saw him said you had to be prepared for a long evening - he often went on until the small hours - but it was worth it. A true original. He was very keen on classical music and could often be seen at Philharmonic concerts in Liverpool.
I have a cd of Tom Lehrer's songs. I love the deadpan delivery of sometimes outrageous ideas, as well as the periodic table!
