Why is a Jaffa Cake classed as a biscuit? It's made of sponge. Surely that makes it a cake.

Constant news item about a 99 year old man 'resting' in hospital. Resting from what????

Jaxjacky Thu 18-Feb-21 10:10:23

We have a post box on the wall, a large one, no letterbox and our regular postie is brilliant, but the occasional filler in and people who leave bin content insist on jamming it in. And, leave it half in, half out. As we’re home now, it’s an annoyance, but hello burglars when we’re eventually allowed out, never mind damaged cards etc.

Those tops on bleach bottles that you have to squeeze and turn at the same time, they’re beyond my capability now. Also small writing on food package information, especially of it’s not black print on a white background.

Nana3 Thu 18-Feb-21 11:29:45

Oh yes Jane43 that small writing grrrrr.

Shampoo and conditioner bottles which look the same but I can't read the labels in the shower without my glasses. Ditto hotel showers with complicated instructions inside.

The speech thing - pronouncing words ending ing as in. The worst offender who drives me insane is Pritti Patel! She talks about walkin, talkin, drivin, ad infinitum. Aaaahhhh!

Ready meals that state "pull back film" it does not pull back it needs stabbing with a knife then messily pulling off a bit at a time.

Oh yes, cornishpasty. grin. Does my head in that does.

During lockdown we, like many others I'm sure, have been watching a bit more daytime TV. One programme in particular is good harmless fun - Tipping Point!

Why, when there is so much else going on, does it really irritate when so many of the contestants appearing on the show do not say PLEASE!!! Why can they not say "Drop zone one please?" or "Can I pass to 'X' (fellow contestant) please?" Arghhh - petty irritation !!!! It is so refreshing when the word 'Please' is used!

I'm sure Tipping Point isn't the only show where this happens - and we probably notice it because we are at home more at the moment and it's on at 'cup of tea' time!

Have many GC we have a family saying - "that's not very good manners is it Grandma" if a GC (or adult!) forgets to say please or thank you. Nowadays DH and I sit and watch Tipping Point but constantly say "He's not got very good manners has he Grandma?" or "She's got nice manners hasn't she Grandma!"

The indiscriminate use of 'Rent' and 'Let'

CanadianGran Fri 19-Feb-21 03:53:29

It drives me mad when light switches are not 'up for on, down for off' especially when there are two switches for the same light on opposite side of the room.

I will go about making them 'right'.

CanadianGran Fri 19-Feb-21 03:55:03

Also note in above photo the screws are not aligned... should be either straight up or straight sideways, not all helter skelter.

grandmajet Fri 19-Feb-21 08:38:57

I don’t know how you live with it, CanadianGran!

eazybee Fri 19-Feb-21 10:52:42

Buying something new, usually electrical, and finding the instructions are printed in fourteen different languages in very small print.

Witzend Fri 19-Feb-21 10:55:25

People saying REEsearch instead of reSEARCH.

Nannagarra Fri 19-Feb-21 15:12:06

People who begin answers with, ‘Yes, no....” (which is it???); the frequently use of ‘ visceral’, ‘nuanced’ and ‘heads up’; the BBC using two subjects and a singular verb.

MissAdventure Fri 19-Feb-21 15:22:52

My daughter and me found that people hereabouts (including us!) say "yeah, no" all the time.
No idea why.

Aveline Fri 19-Feb-21 15:39:49

Witzend- re research/researching - pronunciation depends on whether that word is being used as a noun or a verb.
Ie my reesearch is into X or Y
But I'm re search ing X or Y.
I know I'm being pedantic but I only discovered this relatively recently!

grannypiper Fri 19-Feb-21 15:40:35

Checkout staff that pick my very fragile and expensive Gluten free loaf up by the middle AAGGHHH use the ruddy long piece of wrapper at the end !

V3ra Fri 19-Feb-21 15:44:55

Canadian Gran I've just asked my husband "what is wrong?" on your photo.
Straightaway he said what you've complained about ?

Aveline Fri 19-Feb-21 15:46:54

Canadiangran- I agree that I prefer both switches to be either up or down but for me it's down for on and up for off!

MissAdventure Fri 19-Feb-21 15:48:08

It's a source of annoyance for me that not only are a lot of the light switches upside down, they are in the wrong place, compounded by the doors opening the wrong way round!

Mollygo Fri 19-Feb-21 15:54:03

CanadianGran sorry, I deliberately have our row of three switches hall, porch, stairs up/down/up. I’ve even been known to make an extra trip upstairs to put that right!?
Aveline you saved me a post. Thanks.
Sodapop the hotel showers are often a nightmare. I used to send DH in first to get it right.
My pet hates:
Being the person who doesn’t get the solid chocolate fingers in a Kit Kat, especially when I had first choice of biscuit.
Also people who carry on reiterating that they, and only they, are right, even when you’ve given up the discussion.

grannypiper Fri 19-Feb-21 16:26:43

Canadian Gran That photo sets my teeth on edge, i could not settle if my switches were like that.
