Pretty lazy day today, son sent me a hat for Mother’s Day to wear on the allotment, my husband said it is reminiscent of Vera’s, I need a battered Land Rover now!

Good news about the hall Kitty ! We have been to a rose grower and bought Madame Alfred Carriere home with us, to scramble over the shed. Then we went to a real supermarket! We had run out of cheese, Sherry, gin and tonic, four of life’s staples ?.

By the by, Mr Soop had a phone call from the bank. They won't be taking back the amount he was awarded for PPI. Why? Because he is entitled to it. His face was a picture when he told me the news. He honestly believed that there had been a mistake. It had caused him a lot of worry.

A very quiet day as the contractors are on site replacing the decking outside our front doors. We’ve not gone anywhere today (a) mostly to keep out of the way from interrupting the workmen and (b) although sunny it’s been bitterly cold!

Himself is watching Man. Utd whilst keeping tabs on the Rangers score. I’m reading.

I'm relieved that you managed to get over the Rest and Be Thankful in both directions, soop. I haven't been there for such a long time and nowadays never drive very far. It's a fine route in summer - even a West of Scotland summer - but I wouldn't want to use it at other times. N&G, I hope Sam's progress continues. The return of his appetite augurs well.
I'd been pleased to see that no obvious damage had been done to my garden by last night's gale and the bins were where they were supposed to be. Then - shock, horror! - I noticed a fence panel, leaning against my nice new (to me) white car. I couldn't shift either of them, so immediately went on line and found a contractor. He came and moved the panel and arranged to replace it with a sturdier one next week. Whew!

Managed some sleep last night but woke up very early. Thankful for a Zoom session (2 hrs) I had booked last week, All the way from Australia, It was a tutorial on woodturning.

Sent my son two texts today - no call from him, He replied to my second one. Pleased to read he had stayed calm when talking to his bosses. They didn't offer any immediate help with his work load but could probably look into getting an additional person at the end of April. My son is now considering giving his notice in on Monday but is ringing me on Sunday. Hopefully we can talk at length then. Trying to persuade him to come to see us in May for a few days. His birthday. Not seen him for just over two years.

Busy day tomorrow as woodburner company fitting the new fire into the new house. MrM has made a good job of the adaption it needed.

The one place where you don't have to worry about people taking offence is here Luckygirl . I don't always keep up but as long as you bring cake everyone's happy :-)

Sam's visit to the vet was uneventful. The news of the lump is not back from the lab yet, so that's ongoing. She removed the dressings and I was a little bit horrified - the wound itself stretches from the back of his neck right round one side. Its enormous.

Its obviously itchy now too. He has a week to go before the outer stitches are removed poor soul . we keep adjusting his fetching all in one with the high collar to keep everything covered and avoid scratching but in typical spaniel fashion he has discovered if he shakes his head vigorously his ears slap on his neck and 'scratch the itchy bit' !! Bugger !

I'll add a pic of his suit - we have unfastened the end and rolled it up over his tummy whilst he's with us.

Muse your son does sound like he's struggling. Before he hands his notice in perhaps you could suggest he takes some sick time. I'm sure his GP would be sympathetic - just to give him time to collect his thoughts? Job wise it might not be the best choice if he has nothing else to go to given the current economic situation.

Thank you for your enquiry ann - I am happy to report that after about 14 months of effort and 4 failed sales I have now completed on the sale and will be moving on Thursday week (25th). For various complicated reasons, due to the new house being a new build that is not yet registered with the Land Registry, I will be renting it for the first couple of months - but at least I will have moved.

I am very busy at the moment filling boxes and it is a very slow job as I cannot carry much at a time, so am getting lots of exercise going back and forth from one end of this sprawling bungalow to the other with tiny loads.

I can understand how you feel about not being able to cope with downsizing - I am barely managing it, especially with the virus and the need to simply do it on my own as I cannot have lots of people in the house - but I am plodding on in my own bumbling fashion.

Nannandgrampy poor Sam. He is gorgeous though. Luckygirl good news of your imminent move! And welcome to the kitchen. I'm glad I downsized two years ago when I had just retired. My son was not happy and felt I was doing it too soon but I was happy to move when I was able to. I took a whole summer to clear out years of stuff and clutter but it was worth it.
I'm just back from the local college where I had my first Astra zeneca dose. The organisation was extremely efficient. I bumped into three sets of old neighbours so we had a socially distanced catch up while waiting in line.

Hi Luckygirl no rights or wrongs in this kitchen! I’m glad we just have our 3 bed semi, thoughts of packing the house down fill me with horror. What a tinker Sam, clever though! It’s so hard with our children muse you just want to rush in and fix it all, I wish there was a magic answer, but he knows you’re there for him.
I must shift my btm and get out for a walk this afternoon, dodging the showers, we had a hefty one of hail earlier, went very dark.

Hello Luckygirl! No one here even knows the meaning of taking offence!
I went to the fish van this morning and came back with large and luscious langoustines.
We had to open a bottle of crisp, white wine of course, to echo those lovely holiday lunches in Normandy and Brittany, with M&D and DC.
Sadly it is 10 days until our next bin collection, so it will smell like a proper French dustbin by then! ?

Am enjoying the thought of a proper French dustbin, NannyT as well as envying your lunch. The thought of a leisurely outdoor lunch somewhere French and sunny seems unimaginable just now, but we can only hope.

Luckygirl, good luck with the endless packing. It will all be worth it and your blood pressure will eventually settle!

Nannytopsy - a fish van - how very civilized!

Luckygirl, it's good to see you here. It takes a bit of time to get used to it all over again, if you've been missing. Your preparations for moving sound a bit of a nightmare. It's bad enough if you can rope in help from family and friends, but not at all easy on your own.
I'm trying to de-clutter and today, rifling through a large antique chest of drawers, discovered a big skein of Aran wool. Goodness knows when I bought it - definitely not in the last 20 years! I am thinking about what to do with it and not looking forward to winding it into balls. I remember holding it stretched out between my hands while my granny wound it into neat balls.

I share that same memory annodomini - and I had many knitted garments from her, including a wonderful jumper with Mary Mary illustration knitted in.
