Where do you keep your shoes?

We used to keep ours on a shoe rack by the front door. However, they invariably ended up just scattered around the floor near the rack and not actually on it! This resulted in the hallway looking really untidy. We have now decorated and the rack and shoes have gone, making the hallway look much bigger. The problem now is where to store said shoes, boots, wellies etc. DH has about 15 pairs of trainers which makes this problem worse! Our house is average size, but we don't have lots of storage space.

Some over here and the rest in Malaga.

Have put my shoes on the rack in my wardrobe now. Looks very neat & tidy. DH's trainers in various places around the house atm. Might get him a shoe rack to go in his wardrobe. I'm getting more and more into having a porch though. It's a very good ?

Shoe cupboard in the hall, another in our bedroom. Excess in the bottom of wardrobes, out of season shoes in clear boxes stored under an ottoman bed. Mr C’s wellies in the shed. There are far too many shoes here!

Mine are on the top shelf in my wardrobe, with boots on the bottom shelf, and the shoes that I wear everyday by my front door.

I have a tall, wide, but shallow shoe cupboard in the hall and it's really opened up the space - as there's no excuse for shoes all over the place now.

Everyday shoes/ boots are kept in a cupboard in the hall. My 'posh' occasion shoes are in my wardrobe.

I tie the laces together and throw them over the power line. For some reason kids wanting dope keep knocking on my door wink

A shoe rack in the hall cupboard for everyday shoes and shelves in wardrobes with clear storage boxes for all other shoes.

Out the reach of the dogs. One winter we saw one of our puppies running around the garden with my sheepskin boot on his head, he couldn’t get it off - teach him to stick his nose in. Since then they have been kept in the wardrobe as they can’t open sliding doors

The ones we wear often are in a big basket by the front door, others in our wardrobes

We've a lot of shoes - I'd be embarrassed to say how many. But we've also got a large cellar which is perfect for storing things you don't need every day, and most of them are down there, in their own storage unit. Upstairs in the wardrobes are all the heels that hardly ever get an airing these days - I'm steeling myself to have a huge cull and just keep a couple of pairs. But I can put it off until the charity shops reopen.

Since last March, apart from the lazy hazy days of summer sandals, I've worn just three pairs of the shoes (walking, pumps and trainers) and three pairs of flat boots. They're lined up near the front door all ready for action.

Ours are in a mini dustbin with a lid, it holds around ten pairs of Everyday type shoes. The smart type and 'out of season' ones live in a plastic storage box in the bottom of our big built in wardrobe, which also houses several coats and jackets not 'in season' at the time!

Garden shoes, trainers etc in a cupboard in the utility room, supposedly on a rack but often in a jumble in the bottom when they get overcrowded.
Better shoes on racks in the wardrobes.
Summer sandals put away in boxes in the spare bedroom wardrobe.

After typing that out, I realise we need a cull of shoes.

I thought this was such a strange question I had to look at the answers!

I’m not sure where I keep my very few shoes. Wherever. At the moment they are in the wardrobe.

On a rack in the wardrobe. Haven't had much use for any of them recently but regularly wear 'old faithfuls' which lie on the mat by the door and are exchanged for slippers the minute I come in.

Shoe cupboard by front door for everyday ones, hanging shoe rack inside wardrobe for lesser worn pairs. Sandals in storage box under spare bed.

I have a large lidded wicker basket in the bedroom with shoes, another smaller one that fits in the bottom of my wardrobe. I keep a couple of decent ones in there boxes in the back bedroom and everyday couple of pairs of trainers by the front door.

All over the house. I really must tidy them up!

cornishpatsy Fri 05-Mar-21 15:49:07

In the drawers under my bed.

Walking boots in boot bags in the boot of the car or if they need a good clean they get slung in the garage to await attention;
Walking shoes and trainers on a John Lewis shoe rack in a space under the stairs (the only one we’ve had that’s not fallen to bits!), along with two pairs of everyday shoes, and carpet slippers;
Dress shoes in boxes in my wardrobe (gathering dust until we are set free!);
One pair of crocs by the back door and one by the conservatory door;
Wellingtons and waders in the garage with my fishing gear (giving up the waders though - dodgy old legs!).

Cherrytree59 Fri 05-Mar-21 14:50:33

Walking boots in garage or car boot.
Wellies still in porch atm

We have ikea shoe storage unit in porch for every day shoes, flip flops etc, also spare slippers for DD and Sil.

Monster slippers for grandchildren in their extremely useful ikea kallax unit.

Garden Crocs at back door.

Shoe's that probably haven't and won't seen the light of day for yonks boxed and in wardrobe.

TerriBull Fri 05-Mar-21 14:38:23

All over the place, some in the hall, if they get muddy in the utility room, quite a few in my wardrobe, some in the garage.

SpringyChicken Fri 05-Mar-21 14:14:49

My friend has a large carved wooden chest in her hallway. She keeps her 'frequent use' shoes in it and sits on the chest to put them on.

grannyrebel7 Fri 05-Mar-21 14:09:49

Thanks everyone you've given me some ideas. Think I might put the shoe rack in my wardrobe. Alternatively, I need a porch smile

maydonoz Fri 05-Mar-21 14:06:17

Shoes are kept on the two bottom shelves of our shoe rack, ( slippers on top shelf)
in the hall. Wellies are in the porch. Luckily DH has just one pair of sport shoes and one regular type. Apart from a couple pairs of Skechers, one boots and one shoes, I don't have too many either.
There may be a few pairs of shoes in my wardrobe that have been worn once to weddings!
