Has anyone got a different perspective after watching last evenings interview?
I am be really interested to hear if any of you feel more or less pro the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Rosie51 Fri 12-Mar-21 12:36:58

thanks NellG and Ellianne so they were 100% in the right and everybody else was 100% in the wrong. What a wonderful display of empathy and consideration of other's feelings, or maybe not hmm

NellG Fri 12-Mar-21 12:36:34

trisher they really should have given you a shovel, it's a better tool for shovelling. A spade is better for digging bigger holes...

As I am sure you know NellG disinterested doesn't mean uninterested. It means impartial. I think we always need impartial people to comment, don't you?

Yes we do, and I wish someone who is impartial would comment.

I'm not, you're not. You can't be impartial if you are concerned about what else people might go on to believe. You've made a judgment, not an observation. Impartiality involves treating all respondents equally. No one on this thread is doing that. The simple use of the word 'they' in your posts evidences that.

Can you honestly claim impartiality?

Ellianne Fri 12-Mar-21 12:30:49

I watched the full interview Rosie but I didn't hear any such comments, there was no humility, no empathy.
eg. describing the dress issue, Meghan said she was stressed in the weeks before the wedding without giving a thought to Kate who had just had a baby.
Harry should have been questioned more in depth by Oprah. It sounded like he wanted everyone to drop everything for him.

Mollygo Fri 12-Mar-21 12:27:04

Wow! NellG.
“People judge people who judge people.” Would you say true or false? Could that be a new thread?

trisher Fri 12-Mar-21 12:25:40

I've often been known to refer to a spade as a shovel. I blame my Northern upbringing and being handed a spade and told to "Shovel that up" the offending substance beng anything from horse poo to snow.

tickingbird it's a mistake to think I don't know people with other views-just not many of them. My mum used to look at the Queen and announce "Poor old dear. It's time she gave it up." There was a couple of years between them.

i really think that interview was posed .i cant stand oprah anyway ,she is so fake .esp about the racist bit ...it was done to get a WOW factor .i cant see why they aired their views in public ,why not at a family get -together---.... yes i can see why harry wanted to get away from royal life. but you cant call your son a prince when it was them that wanted to step back from royal life . you cant have your cake and eat it ,well meghan can ,she's an actresss...you cant fit an american into english royal family .harry should have warned her what life was going to be like.i think meghan had post natal depression and that the royal family should have listened to her for help,.you wont change the royal family .they are stuck in their ways .

NellG Fri 12-Mar-21 12:18:30

Rosie51 If they had (and they didn't) they'd have won me over.

Sorry Nell I didnt know expressing a different viewpoint was a sign of virtue. You must be practically a saint.

I am the patron saint of eye rolling. But I have stiff competition. A sense of humour and a bit of self deprecation gets me though.

NellG Fri 12-Mar-21 12:10:10

* Alegrias* OK, so none intended. Which equally proves my point and the one I've been making all along. People judge people who judge people.

The repeated claims of disinterest don't absolve 'you' or anyone else because if 'you' were a Martian in this context you could only claim disinterest if you made no comment and simply moved on. You are invested even if it's solely for the interest in human behaviour. You're just Margit's disapproving next door neighbour who can't resist twitching her net curtains.

There's nothing wrong with it in my mind, but a spade is a spade not a shovel.

I was surprised to read here that Meghan suffered so much racial prejudice in her early life because I didn’t know her background until she she married into the RF, and just considered her a very attractive and glamorous young woman.
Colour just didn’t come into it.
However, I still didn’t have warm feelings towards her from the start.
Too pushy and self centred.

Rosie51 Fri 12-Mar-21 11:25:54

I didn't watch the interview, have only seen clips, so can anyone who did tell me if Meghan or Harry at any time said......

I think maybe it was wrong to assume.......
I think maybe I/we could have done xyz differently........
Maybe I/we misunderstood/misinterpreted what people said/did.....

You get my drift. Was there ever any acknowledgement, however slight, that there may have been fault by them? In my experience it's very rare for blame for a relationship breakdown to be fairly loaded 100% to one side.

Cherrytree59 Fri 12-Mar-21 11:25:48

I wonder if Harry has reached out to the family of the son that Harry deemed call the 'P'word???

Maybe that family are still hurting in the same way Harry professes to be deeply hurt by the alleged comment(s) regarding his own son.

Lexisgranny

So many Gransnetters have grasped and explained eloquently the situation regarding protection, the titles, the difference between working royals, and other scions of the royal family. It therefore seems absolutely staggering that a 36 year old man, brought up all his life within palaces should not understand it, and having doubtless explained it to his wife, that she as an intelligent woman shouldn’t either.

Precisely!

Alegrias1 Fri 12-Mar-21 11:19:52

No, that's not what I said at all NellG so you interpreting it that way does kind of make my point.

Based on our background and previously held beliefs, we will all draw conclusions about things that are presented to us.

A disinterested observer, recently arrived from Mars, may look at the whole sorry M&H affair and say There are a couple of people who were unhappy in their situation and are telling all; how sad they seem to have been; that will hurt and disturb the family back in the UK. Some of it could be exaggerated. Maybe they saw things that weren't really there.

Someone who has an unshakeable belief in the RF as the pinnacle of British society, may say Look at that ungrateful pair, they have no idea how to behave. She's just an actress and he's a toad so I'm sure they are making it all up to discredit our lovely RF and our own dear Queen.

No insults, just an observation of human behaviour.

SecondhandRose Fri 12-Mar-21 11:19:49

Fools to do the interview, no good will come of it. A sad situation

NellG Fri 12-Mar-21 11:19:07

May we all learn from your virtue Galaxy

Galaxy Fri 12-Mar-21 11:14:54

Today I thought about victims of domestic abuse, and moaned about a minor issue in my job. I am able to manage to think about two things at once. And am quite uncomfortable about the way that subject has just been used to justify a point.

NellG Fri 12-Mar-21 11:11:04

Nanagee I saw Jess Philips reading that list on the news this morning - absolutely chilling.

NellG Fri 12-Mar-21 11:08:44

TBH I find it all a bit disturbing Trisher. If people can jump to these conclusions and make unfounded comments about people they have never met and who mean nothing in their lives, what else will they believe?

I think it's reasonable to comprehend the insinuation of gullibility and stupidity from this post. It reads as judgmental and insulting towards people you have never met and who mean nothing in your life. You appear to be assuming a superior stance based only on your own assertions, which is no less concerning than what you are levelling at others. Therein is the insult.

Physician heal thyself perhaps?

tickingbird Fri 12-Mar-21 11:06:22

You move in very different circles to me tickingbirdmost people I know couldn't care less about any of them
Thankfully!!

Trisher That has actually caused me to laugh out loud. Thanks for that. I can’t believe you felt the need to tell me that. Echo chambers and all that. However I have friends and acquaintances with differing opinions on all sorts of subjects. It’s good to get out of one’s bubbles. It opens the mind to the possibility that others have differing viewpoints. In lockdown I’ve had to make do with GN.

Callistemon Fri 12-Mar-21 11:05:46

Odd, though, isn't it, that Meghan has escaped back to a country where she suffered such racial abuse in her younger days that she felt moved to write about it in an earlier publication?

Nanagee57 Fri 12-Mar-21 11:01:41

I was saddened yesterday listening to the list of women who had been killed by men in Parliament yesterday. My heart goes out to their families.

Then we have to listen to the protestations of a couple (and before anyone jumps in and says you don't have to listen, it's unavoidable as it's on every channel almost all day long) who delight in chasing fame throwing aspersions on people of being racist without providing any proof whatsoever, why I wonder won't they name the person who allegedly discussed the colour of Archie's skin.

I have just been blessed with a grandaughter and we have all discussed whether she will have blue eyes or brown eyes or sensitive skin like her fathers's family, it's what families do.

Perhaps the people who support this couple should stand back and look at a more frightening and immediate dilemna staring us in the face; the domestic abuse of women in our society.
