Just as we are on the subject, my great grandparents were first cousins. There are many descendants of that marriage and, as far as I know, everyone is fine.

Most times that’s the case- my understanding is that first cousins marrying first cousins marrying first cousins etc would make the likelihood of any genetic diseases more likely to be inherited.

As regards the ability to present a public face when necessary. It's something many older people in the teaching profession had. I remember having to take a morning off because of a family matter. My head teacher was apparently worried I would be off longer, colleagues assured her I would be in in the afternoon. And I was. It didn't matter that I had been in tears most of the morning I was there to do a job and I did it. It's called professionalism.

I don't understand why Meghan, by her own admission, she did not research what it would be like to join the Royal family. She should have looked into how the media made Diana's life a misery also Fergie being ostracizedby the family. She was very naive for a so called savvy woman. Now she's acting like a diva.

Unequivocally and absolutely every single one of us who might have fallen in love with Prince Harry. Without doubt and I'd swear it in court.

Because DH's grandmother wasn't Her Majesty the Queen, a Head of State and Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England although I'm sure she would have done a very good job of it all.

Well there was plenty of information available to her wasn't there and it wouldn't have taken much researching would it.

No actually the family matter concerned someone else but I think sometimes the things that happen to our children hurt us more than anything we personally endure. But it was just an example of how you can put on a public face when it is needed.

Re cousins marrying. It is common in some cultures. Sadly, the results after several generations of this can be ever worsening genetic anomalies. Unfortunately, we had many of these people in our learning disability service. Tragic.

I think some people find it easier than others to hide their MH, but we shouldn't generalise because we don't know.

The thing I have the most confusion about is the supposed ignorance about the RF and claiming to have no idea. I would also have thought that there would be Aides and advisors to help and ensure that not a foot was put wrong and that every need was met.

I think the RF did mix the pool a bit after it came to light that Victoria carried the Hemophilia gene. Her own son had it as did the tsars son. Even though they didn't often marry first cousins at one point they were all related somewhere along the line.

I think Meghan imagined that too and was very confused to discover that those aides and advisors are there to support the institution first and foremost and they do so by following strict protocols and traditions. I think there was just no mechanism to give her what she asked for - to "go somewhere". Therefore it was down to her and Harry to seek private help. Just like the Queen Mother and George V1 did when they got private speech therapy for instance - the Crown did not provide that.

The Queen and the D of E are third cousins as they are both GGC of Queen Victoria.

Yes, they are there to do a specific job but also to smooth her path and do everything to do all the mundane, ordinary work involved.
She would have been seeing doctors throughout her pregnancy and afterwards too. Did none realise?

I do not think Meghan was lying to us. I think she really believes what she says. But it is her own reality. I have had to deal with someone of a very similar personality in my own family and it is very difficult not to get carried along by their fantasies. Sooner or later though you have to come down to earth and realise that the rest of the world doesn't see things as the fantasist does. This was HER truth - not anyone else's.

When the person concerned is a Royal Prince and one of, if not, the most eligible bachelor in the world, every single one of us would look him up. To say otherwise is nonsense.

As it is legal it is entirely the responsibility and choice of the 2 cousins to consider and to get advice on risks because of a genetic condition! Cousins can marry and across one generational cousin marriage the risk of genetic issues is minuscule. If intermarriage of cousins continues across several generations, the risks increase

I agree with you @Tickingbird ! 100% I think we would have all been googling! It would be rude not to! If I was meeting the Queen, you can bet I'd be doing my research in the same way that it would be rude to go to a job interview without having researched the company that I hoped to work at.

tickingbird the drinks that Oprah was advertising are sold in non-recylable plastic pouches. I know because I asked them about it before Oprah and before I knew Meghan was a stakeholder.
I couldn't believe it when I knew she had invested in it. It is still in plastic as far as I know.
