On the matter of security I really don't see how they could continue as working royals without security for Archie. Suppose they udertook a tour like the Africa one. If they were doing a visit and Archie was left in the care of a nanny would security go with them and no one stay with him? What about shorter tours when he might be left at home- no security? It seems totally unreasonable to me.
If they had continued as senior members of the RF Archie, as their child would have benefitted from the security provided to them. On tour he'd have been protected by the team protecting them, at home he'd have been protected by the team who protect the 'household'.
The only real issue here is that as an adult, without the title of Prince and an active role within the RF he wouldn't have paid for security provided. Had they stayed and Charles became king he would have had both the title and the security, but only if they'd stayed and not stepped back.
The security comes with the job, not the title. I think Meghan couldn't grasp this, and still can't. Which is the problem when you grow up with Walt Disney instead of the Windsors.
