Meghan and Harry. Has anyone changed their opinion post Oprah?

NellG I watched the interview and Harry said quite emphatically that when they were told Archie would not havea title he asked about security and was told the security went with the title and Archie would not be entitled to any-this is the protocol. Interesting that as usual all the blame for this is placed on Meghan, when it was Harry who spoke of his fears, quite understandably I would have thought given what happened to his mother when she was dependent on private security.

The security comes with the job, not the title. I think Meghan couldn't grasp this, and still can't. Which is the problem when you grow up with Walt Disney instead of the Windsors.

Archie is entitled to be called Earl of Dumbarton, but they obviously don't want to use that.

Obviously if Harry and Meghan had remained as working royals, therefore senior royals, both they and Archie would have had paid for security. If they step back, so does the security. Simple.
Having said that, Prince Edward is the son a monarch. He doesn’t have paid for security unless he is engaged in royal duties. Nor does his wife unless engaged in royal duties. Not do his children at all. The grandchildren of a monarch who are entitled to be styled Prince and Princess, but are not!
Princess Anne only has security when engaged in royal duties. Her children have never had security. They are the grandchildren of a monarch.
Archie is the great grandchild of a monarch. Now his parents are no longer working royals, why should he have security provided by us?

Why trisher should Archie have paid for security that is not provided for the grandchildren of a monarch? Why is Archie different than Edward’s children? They have no security provided.

Meghan could grasp it all right. It’s her way of letting off steam about how hacked off she is about her son not being a prince. She knows that will look bad if she says it, so pretends it’s about security. If they were still full time members of the RF Archie would come under his parents’ security. He may get his title when Charles is King but not necessarily as they are no longer part of the RF. it’s all nonsense.

I don't think the question was about security now or when they stepped down as working royals. Harry said specifically that the security went with the title. No title no security even when they were working. All the other families have their own arrangements
Sophie Wessex didn't do any foreign tours after her children were born until 2011. So security for them on tours wouldn't have arisen.
You paid over £250,000 per annum for the York girls when they were at Uni.

In what parallel universe do you think a child, who's parents are being protected by a 'minder', if he was with his parents wouldn't also be protected by default. Or do you think in the event of being faced with a gunman, say, they'd grab H&M and leave Archie?

Let me put it another way, Archie, who is not a prince and cannot be one until C is King, does not attract his own, personal security team. He can and did benefit from the team provided to his parents. Now he still does, it's just that they are paying for the team. If they had wanted extra, they would have had to pay, just like Andrew does for his daughters. It's really not that hard to understand.

The York girls are granddaughters not great granddaughters. It’s really quite clear. There’s no special treatment but that’s what H & M want obviously.

But Archie isn’t a grandchild like the York princesses Trisher, he’s on a par with Peter and Zara’s children, and Eugenies offspring, whatever their names are, a great grandchild and thus not entitled to protection.

I’m seriously questioning Meghan’s ability to grasp different ‘constructs’ - she has two degrees, apparently! Harry however, should know better with his upbringing, regardless of education.

I'm not sure having an education and knowing how to use it always go hand in hand. More's the pity.

As mentioned, Queen Charlotte wife of George 111 was directly descended from Margarita de Castroy y Sousa, a black branch of the Portuguese Royal House. Her portraits indicate that she was of mixed race which were of course dumbed down at the time.
I distinctly remember at the time of Archies birth that P.H said quite clearly that neither of them wanted a title for Archie as they wanted him to grow up as normally as possible like his cousins. As a g. grandchild of the monarch he is not entitled to be styled a Prince unless he was in direct line like Prince George whose siblings have the same titles courtesy of the Monarch. Archie can be styled Earl of Dumbarton. P.C intends to slim down the RF so that only senior members continue to have tax payer protection. Sadly Harry and Meghan as representatives of the Commonwealth, which was the Queens intention, would not have been affected by this slimming down and would have continued to receive maximum protection for themselves and their family. Obviously as they've chosen to leave the RF firm, they no longer qualitify for taxpayers security and quite reasonably will have to foot the bill themselves

So many Gransnetters have grasped and explained eloquently the situation regarding protection, the titles, the difference between working royals, and other scions of the royal family. It therefore seems absolutely staggering that a 36 year old man, brought up all his life within palaces should not understand it, and having doubtless explained it to his wife, that she as an intelligent woman shouldn’t either.

Why should we U.K. tax payers help them to live a life of riley in another country while they show such disregard for the RF and us citizens- they have enough money to pay it themselves people with 11 million pound mansions aren’t exactly scraping by. I think it’s a damn cheek personally! To throw accusations around as they did without any proof other than their ‘word’ is shocking I feel sorry for the queen she must be so hurt by their actions. If H and M crave privacy so much why court centre stage in the world media? She is an attention seeking and self centred individual and H needs to ‘grow some’ as that interview certainly made clear who rules the roost in that relationship.

Queen Charlotte was descended from a Margarita de Castro y Sousa, who in turn is thought to be descended from the mistress of Afonso III of Portugal, Madragana, who was most likely Mozarab rather than Moorish; Mozarab being the description of Christians living in Iberia under Moorish rule. Charlotte was 15 generations away from Madragana.

So, no "black branch of the Portuguese royal house". Incidentally, George III, her husband, was also descended from Madragana.

Now if security goes with the parents what about the child? It would be the nanny faced with a gunman! If the parents have seperate visits planned do you then split the security team 3 ways? It's obvious that the child would need his own protection.
I don't think either the York girls or The Wessex children have been taken on royal tours and yet the York girl were protected as children.

My daughter won't agree with that, having sat at a table with her, at EACH (East Anglia Children's Hospice) as part of the nursing team. Catherine was just like any other young woman, the same age as my daughter and chatted naturally to the nurses having a break in that shift.
You can't do this 'out of duty', she was 100% natural

The arrangements changed in recent years as part of the 'slimming down' - hence Andrew getting arsey because he had to start paying.

As has been explained many times - the York girls are Princesses and Granddaughters. Archie is a GG . It's different.

Which bit of this don't you get? Is it so hard to imagine they just get a bill for the extra service provided, which is why they have so many flunkeys working for them because some poor sod has to do the flipping accounts?

Nobody picked on Meghan, she just didn't get it either. And if the palace had to work this hard to explain it it's hardly surprising people quit.

NellG Apparently Phillips of Hainault, born 1314, wife of Edward 111rd is thought to have been descended from black Moorish ancestry! Rather a long time ago, but as the RF can trace their ancestry back to the Conqueror, it's fascinating none the less!!
