Well I actually missed it, but have just been shown the vid of Alex Beresford giving his take on Meghan & Harry, I must say I don’t think it’s done Piers any favours upping and walking off like that

I hadn't realised they had named him too. There is even a dialogue of what happened on one outlet. The only thing I can think of wrt releasing so much information is if they think more women/people will come forward

If the police think this is a possibility they would release his name now and photograph. The papers are doing this to make money and couldn’t care less if it prejudiced a fair trial.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Sarah Everard, although the remains discovered have not been identified.
He is named, with photograph, information about where he lives, his wife and his children, even an interview with his mother-in-law.
Did not think this was allowed until someone was charged with an offence.

You’re right - it’s not supposed to happen. We have a press to be proud of don’t we?

Parsley3 Thu 11-Mar-21 12:58:13

I see the director for the Society of Editors has resigned over denying that the press is racist and bigoted.

And so he should. The press release from the SofE was disgraceful.
Charlene White, the ITV news presenter, has pulled out as host of their award ceremony and told them to find someone whose views aligned with theirs to replace her.

JaneJudge Thu 11-Mar-21 13:00:56

I do agree with you suzie

suziewoozie Thu 11-Mar-21 13:35:28

Our proud press has now reported an interview with the MIL of the suspect where she proclaims his innocence. Wow just wow.

the OP ; Piers Morgan walking off set this morning;

now murder is being talked about, I'm sure he'd have something to say about that! start another thread first.

I was referring to the fact that Morgan couldnt tolerate someone else's viewpoint. A poster said they too would have walked off. I was asking why you would walk off, as Morgan did, just because someone held a different view to you.

Because it was a personal attack by a fellow presenter. It wasn't simply a case of not agreeing with each other,

Eloethan Fri 12-Mar-21 00:55:10

What do they say? If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

nanna8 Fri 12-Mar-21 05:01:23

If a photo of the accused appears wouldn’t that nullify the trial? It would here I think.

Galaxy Fri 12-Mar-21 06:51:14

It wasnt a personal attack at all. It was a difference of opinion. He was very measured I thought and they both knew it was going to be discussed as they had debated it on Twitter the day before. PM has himself agreed he was 'a snowflake' to walk off.

BlueBelle Fri 12-Mar-21 07:12:33

* Grannyrose* did you even watch the piers Morgan /Alex beresford debate there was absolutely no personal attack Alex Beresford spoke calmly and articulately unlike the flouncing, shouty Morgan

Correct Bluebelle. I watched the clip and beresford was reasonable NO personal attack.

Galaxy Fri 12-Mar-21 07:59:48

I think PM struggles with people saying no to him.

I think PM struggles with people saying no to him.

Exactly - hence his obsessive attacks on MM

NellG Fri 12-Mar-21 08:54:45

Not a PM fan in the slightest but, I do think it got personal as Beresford said that the only reason PM disliked MM so much was because she'd turned him down a second time.

So even though PM has said much worse about hundreds of people and likely deserved everything he got, it would be wrong to say it didn't get personal and paint Beresford as entirely saintly because he had to resort to a personal attack to 'win'.

He should call this helpline.

I have very mixed feelings about Piers Morgan. On the downside he can be boorish and overbearing, and complains endlessly when he gets a bee in his bonnet. I used to watch GMB and at times wanted to throw something at him. He can be very annoying.
But on the other hand he can give excellent interviews, really getting people to open up and discuss their life story. He can also tear certain people to shreds which can be very satisfying, in particular the USA gun lobby when they insist everyone including children should carry guns. He stands firmly by his opinions and will not bow to the woke brigade.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 12-Mar-21 11:06:01

I can remember Morgan being implicated in the phone hacking scandal with Millie Dowler.

Ghastly individual.

libra10 Fri 12-Mar-21 11:12:08

The programme need someone who isn't afraid to ask tough questions of politicians and other people they interview.

Piers Morgan was ruthless in his questioning, and didn't let people away with playing politics instead of giving a straight answer.

Although I like Sean Fletcher, he doesn't fit the bill

He is definitely a Marmite individual, people either love him or hate him. As I've said, I sit very firmly on the fence. I realise he has his faults but also some good qualities. He does not bow to the woke brigade and will stand by his views, which in itself is refreshing in this day and age.

You are describing qualities that other media people display but without the history of being implicated in stuff like phone hacking and lying in various articles he has written.

Nothing special about Morgan except he has been given a platform to shout his mouth off.

BlueBelle Fri 12-Mar-21 12:43:02

I don’t understand how anyone can admit to sitting on the fence when there is someone so loud so opinionated you either have to agree or disagree with him there can’t really be a maybe with a character like this Same with Trump Farage they are all loud, opinionated, thoughtless and can’t stand a strong woman now you either like that sort of man or dislike with a vengeance you can’t be a......maybe surely chestnut
What or who do you consider the Woke brigade ?

Chestnut Fri 12-Mar-21 14:19:51

I can definitely sit on the fence here. I have explained that I recognise and dislike his faults but also admire some of the things he's done. He has very polarising good points and bad points which is why I sit on the fence.
The woke brigade are, for example, virtue signallers who tell the rest of us how to behave whilst doing the opposite themselves. And people who look for things to be insulted about and will take every opportunity to complain about them.
