Morning, I don’t have any idea why, but I had a yearning for a Royal Scot biscuit yesterday! Anyone else have a longing for now unavailable food?

If only the manufacturers would read this thread and bring back some of the favourites - made with proper chocolate, not just sugar. Aztec Bars, Fry's (fruit filled) and Milk Tray that was bought as a bar with six or so filled chocolates. If only.

B&M. And Home Bargains!!

Our neighbour is 87 and stops for sherry at 11am every day. She walks miles, chops her own wood, and regularly leaves home baked cakes on our doorstep. If I thought I could stop at one, I’d do it too!

Can you still buy Topics? I haven’t seen them in years.

I used to love raspberry ruffles. Chocolate, coconut and raspberry truffles. I used to eat them by the bag load when I started work in the late 60s. But guess what? Amazon have them so I bought a bumper load. They are still delicious.

Curry flavored Twiglets, (they were a ‘limited edition’).
Aztec bars, Cadbury’s answer to Mars bars.

These might still be available for all I know - but anyone else remember acid drops and red liquorice strands?

And my grandfather always kept a packet of Murray Mints in his pocket - which he was kind enough to share when we went out anywhere.

Anyone remember Puff candy bars? My brother and I used to take ration coupons to the little sweet shop in an old ladies front room and buy 4 ozs of Dolly mixtures. We divided them out at home by sorting them into jub jubes, small square brown ones etc. No more sweets till the next Saturday. Happy days!

Different ones for me.
Nibbits - the first potato snack I ever tasted. Pom bears are similar, but not the same.
Swisskit bars.
Tootie Frooties.
Kay-lie (no idea how it was spelled!) - a sort of fizzy sugar that you licked off your fingers.

jacalpad....I used to like the Findus Crispy Pancakes, but I have been told Birds Eye are now doing them? Have you seen any?

Kunzel cakes.....drooling already

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread was a box which contained sweet tobacco strands (nothing to do with tobacco) it was a childs sweets but it used to be lovely.
Always liked the bar of caramac but when I found some about two years ago it did not have the same taste from childhood.
I still buy chocolate limes, sherbet lemons, and peardrops.
I have three packs at the moment and always take a few chocolate limes with me when I take the dog for a walk.

I used to really like Seabrooks Tomato Sauce flavour crisps but can't them anywhere now!

grandmajet Wed 10-Mar-21 15:27:08

I remember the jubbly drinks, Pammiel, and they were a very strange shape.
Yes, Squiffy, I loved Vienna biscuits too. My Grandad, who lived in Glasgow, was a delivery driver for MacFarlane Laing, and every week sent a parcel of broken biscuits to our house in London - he got them free. There was always a scramble for the Vienna ones!

GillT57 Wed 10-Mar-21 15:24:05

Squiffy

Vienna biscuits - expensive, so a very rare treat! - which were triangles of dark chocolate covered wafers. Ooh, I can still taste them now!

My grandmother used to buy them as a treat ( for my Dad!) when we visited.

Hildegard, thank you for starting this lovely thread. I have just remembered we always had a tin of Lucky Numbers at Christmas, during the fifties. A real treat! I also remember buying some wonderful savoury crispy pancakes from the M&S chilled cabinets, in the late eighties/early nineties. Our favourite had a filling of cheese and ham.

I used to love nestles fruit pastels. They would come in big jars and you would ask for four ounces. Also weekend chocolates and frys five fruit bars.

jacalpad Wed 10-Mar-21 15:09:00

Does anyone remember Sharps Whisp bars? They were a pale, close-textured honeycomb topped with soft caramel, and all encased in milk chocolate. I loved them in the late sixties.

rockgran Wed 10-Mar-21 14:53:54

Lime barrel, nutty heart and exotic delight. ... Milk tray flavours I miss. In fact it doesn't really bear much resemblance to the Milk Tray I remember from the 1960s.

BassGrammy Wed 10-Mar-21 14:53:23

So many yummy things here that I'd forgotten about! I do remember Potato Puffs - we used to get them in the tuck shop at school, and every so often you would get one full of fat - yuk! Nux bars too - I loved those! My favourite though was Coffee Crisp, which weren't around for very long and presumably not very popular, but I loved them!

Bazza Wed 10-Mar-21 14:53:11

I used to love a chocolate bar filled with very soft caramel and wrapped in shiny red foil, it was a strange shape. Any one remember what it was called, or more importantly, are they still made?
