Words that make you shudder

The pedant in me cringes every time I hear the word gifted.
What is so wrong with give, or given that the noun 'gift' has to be changed into a verb?

What would you say instead of toilet?
I never know what is polite.

Lavatory or as my mother called it ‘the law’ or loo is accepted everywhere.
I too dislike toilet, to me that means washing, bathing, hair brushing etc.

It seems to me a lot of you don't like words you did not grow up with, possibly from different areas. I grew up in Germany and first came to England as an exchange student in the 60s. I was totally mystified that the word toilet was not to be used, had to say things like 'visit aunty' or 'spend a penny'. Language everywhere changes and develops all the time, so, so why not go with it? Unless, of course Americanisms like Mom, I do hate that, and Arthur Scargill speak 'At this moment in time"

The word fell when used with pregnant. How did falling make you pregnant?

Somethink ! It isn't a word and pacific instead of specific. Really? Nooooo how old are you?

Lounge. Only airports and hotels should have lounges!

Informal speech such as gonna for going to.

Doable. The word is achievable, and the phrase "heads up". A great many modern words and phrases annoy me actually

Hate Mom - also panties, hubby, boobs. I'm another who doesn't use ' pass and passing ' when discussing death.

Fur baby when talking about a pet sounds really twee. Train station , when did we stop going to the railway station ? Free when talking of three and hatch instead of a itch.

Detest the words masticate and pregnant.

The sentence that starts with "the truth of the matter is..." really does make me tense up. You always know it'll be anything but the truth !

Pregnant ??? What else would you say ?! “in an interesting condition”. “Up the duff” “expecting”

Because I don't like the sound of the word wouldn't stop me from using the word.

I hate 'the get go' instead of from the start.

The H word that means a huge loss of blood, I cannot bear to even write it in full. When my maiden Aunt came to see me the day after I lost a baby, her first words to me were "Are you still H......ing" and I totally lost it, screaming at her to get out, much to the astonishment of DH who was bringing her a cup of tea!

I like euphemisms. I use them all the time so I'd drive some of you round the twist

I hate the c word and the n word. I can't even spell them out unless I'm really pushed. If I do I suddenly become Les Dawson's Ada and find myself mouthing the letters

There are two place names near here that drive me insane because the local dialect mispronounces both of them. Anlaby....so easy to say....becomes Anulby and Withernsea...again simple to say...becomes Witherensea. I find it so hard not to correct people when they say it
