One upmanship

So, over the last few weeks I have seen one upmanship on GN about the following:

Curtain v plantation shutters
Paint v wallpaper
Sausages (cheap and fatty v butchers)
Easter eggs
Holidays (2nd home v beach and poool)
Houses (detached v anything else)

Have I missed anything?

I love a sausage. And bacon. I'm doomed.

Think the only time I blotted my copybook was to admit we use the word lounge. Apparently either posh, pretensious or both. Oops! Ain't gonna change though..

We call it the drawing room grin

-----she said, puffing on a cigarette, hahahaha.

Aren't sausages on the " don't eat " list, along with bacon as having cancer causing agents ? Whether they're gilt-edged or not.
I admit to not reading the thread properly so don't know where the sausages come into it.

Ellianne I am all for joining in with some humour, especially at the moment. Unfortunately, a vaguely personal post up thread is what spoiled the fun for me.

I do enjoy a sausage now and again but it must be grilled. I couldn’t even contemplate the excessive amount of fat consumed otherwise ?. Pass me the smelling salts?

Only just caught up because someone on another thread referred to this post, I suppose everyone likes to have a little boast now and then, sometimes I think it’s more ‘one downman ship ‘.
Sorry if someone’s already said that!

I think GagaJo has posted this a bit “tongue in cheek” to have a bit of fun with us smile

Perhaps she will appear and disagree?

As a matter of interest where's the OP?

Or maybe scouring the flies thread? There's lots of oneupmanship there as to who has the biggest or the most!

Oneupmanship, no. A few judgypants do appear, spoiling a thread on occasion!

What a ridiculous thread! More stirring?

But this thread needed to be "spoiled" or at least diverted before it got personal or nasty!
Luckily there are several posters who pre-emt that danger and the best way out is to use humour like here.

Ellianne not stalking honest I just happen to read a regular thread daily.

Goodness how intriguing!

Blossoming. Re comments to and from teachers. A friend set a Latin exam question along the lines of “why is the verb in this sentence in the subjunctive ?” Student a bit cheesed off by this stage wrote “God only knows”. Teacher wrote back “Not only God, Johnny, I do too”.

No worries marpau. I was just intrigued where to find it!

Emily49 . Racy undies! (Not since our honeymoon)
?

Ellianne They look a bit scratchy, do take care.

Jaxjacky Wed 24-Mar-21 15:23:43

Callistemon ???

Ellianne Wed 24-Mar-21 14:39:15

I'm intrigued now. GagaJo I assume was referring to random contributors vying for position on those particular threads.

Marpau seems to be the only one who has noticed oneupmanship, but somewhat sinisterly she is attributing it all to one individual poster and counts how many braggings. Does that sound a bit like stalking?
For me, I read every thread as a stand alone topic. Very rarely do I relate it to what the posters have said elsewhere, although certain styles do become similar.

Ellianne Wed 24-Mar-21 14:20:00

Thanks for reminding me Auntieflo I've just ordered a pair of these Versace SLK. Not bad at £270.

Emily49 Wed 24-Mar-21 14:08:32

Ooh, Auntieflo, bit racy!! grin

Auntieflo Wed 24-Mar-21 14:03:32

You can tell I'm bored a bit today, especially as I am reading a thread about oneupmanship. (Ipad doesn't like writing that) so it may be incorrect.

I got to the SLK bit, and didn't know it referred to a Mercedes, as I was thinking more Silky Lacy Knickers. Just because my M&S ones have been replaced.

CherryCezzy Wed 24-Mar-21 13:37:09

That's where the Easter egg I bought went to Ellianne ?

Brilliant post Nannagarra, I agree that wealth is health ... and happiness. I'd add loving others and being loved to that too. I agree with you too dragonfly and Ellan. These are the important things in life, most other things are mainly just stuff, though I think a roof over your head is important for health and happiness and it pains me to know that not everyone has one.

mumofmadboys Wed 24-Mar-21 10:42:42

Love your wealth is health ( mental and physical) comment Nannagarra. So true.
People who boast are usually insecure

Woodmouse Wed 24-Mar-21 10:41:34

I've never noticed one-upmanship in any posts.

BlueBelle Wed 24-Mar-21 10:36:36

Well I don’t think I ve commented on any of those so threads so thankfully I don’t think I qualify
I ve got no envy of materialistic things as I m not interested in ‘posh’ stuff get much more of a thrill out of recycled things from a charity shops or car boot sales
