Someone said a few days ago that although she had a very quiet wedding ,the media were there and they got free champagne at the hotel as her husband was recognised.
Now that truly is oneupmanship.
She actually is a regular and genuine poster.

And my pedigree dog cost over a thousand, but still poops like any other mut.

I do not believe everything I read on here about what people have. There was a photo of a house and garden on a thread with the poster saying about the view from her window that day, as I recognised the area I googled the image. It was a stock photo of a house in 2003.

Now that is interesting, cornishpasty. I’ve seen a few members outed in a similar way on Mumsnet. Perhaps it was someone who decided to move over to give us all view envy.

I could not care remotely what other people may, or not have in terms of wealth. How superficial is that ? I either like you or I do not, no thought of some outmoded scale of hierarchy.
You buy Farrow and Ball, I buy Dulux . I buy Joseph , you buy Primark, - who cares ????
In these times of such turmoil the last thing thing we should be thinking about is any kind of envy or oneupmanship.

Lucca there have been a few interesting car threads started by people asking about makes to buy. Inevitably it went from minis to Range Rovers. That's why mine got mentioned. Not that I ever paid for it outright! Some of us confessed to being speed junkies

To be honest I see very little boasting on GN - it would be silly anyway as, with a few exceptions, we are all anonymous.

Must admit though, I live in a shoe-box and do at times get utility room, paddock, library, extensive gardens, orangery, front drive-envy!

We own a cottage in Wales we bought it with inheritance money. We enjoyed the freedom of going there as a family. Now our family (when we can eventually see them) is our priority. We decided to put it on the market because what time we have is family time.
We ran a small business passed on from FIL it gave us a good living but we worked hard for it. I appreciate what we have but don't feel the need to boast about it. What's the point we all live different lives that's what makes us unique.

I never see oneupmanship as I’ve always realised that choices can be made within any budget, large or small.

I came from a council house booze fags and bingo childhood and now own a small home in Wales and another in Spain and have friends and family who earned more and have neither.

I share what I have with them as others with more have done for me over the years and that’s the point of ‘stuff’ - it’s not for coveting, it’s for sharing!

Anyway, I’m not sure anyone would envy someone with a holiday home abroad at the moment - we can’t go there and it’s costing money!

Ah, yes, the sneering references to 'First world problems'

There is only one solution. We should all have to fill in a form when joining GN saying what our income is and what we own and then we can have half a dozen GN's based on sociodemographc indicators. That way those less well off will not feel excluded if someone admits to buying a new car, and those of us with a drive full of Maserattis and Ferraris, will not have to communicate with people who spend less on their car than we would on a car service.

Wouldn't it be boring.

Sausages - rarely buy them but if I do they are generally the most tasty and meaty (the label). I’d rather not eat the pork slurry sausages. It’s definitely not one-upmanship, more a case of trying to stay relatively healthy.

No second home, expensive car etc. but very happy to have tastier, less processed food.

I haven’t noticed any oneupmanship myself but I’m happy to start some if it’s what people want.

If I did see boasting I would think it funny to be honest,

I don’t see any one-upmanship.

What I do see, with depressing frequency, is someone asking a question, getting honest answers, and then someone else(not referring to any particular poster) who doesn’t have those things and possibly has a chip on their shoulder as well, makes a snarky comment about other people boasting and complaining about their own lot in life.

One of the less pleasant aspects of gransnet.
