Are you a confident person

I'm happy in my own skin, even if my children don't agree with me I can now shrug it off. Years ago it would have bothered and worried me.

Thanks for answering JaneJudge. Perhaps those loud, bombastic types who appear to be ‘properly’ confident are hiding their own insecurities.
In my experience most confident people, happy in their own skin, are concerned with making sure that others are comfortable and happy.

I didn't actually post that but I am confident enough to reply. I said 'properly' confident, which in my own head I meant people who never question who they are or how they behave and how it may affect other people. All of us know who these people are unless we are those people

Welcome Littletreehugger, what do you think? Are you confident? How do you define confidence?

Someone said that the only confident people they know don’t care for others. That’s rather harsh. I am confident but deeply care for others.
Perhaps we should define our perception of confidence. I am confident that I can deal with day to day events, deal with problems, chat to anyone, make a speech but my one attempt at amateur dramatics found that I’m a quivering wreck on stage.
I also question decisions I’ve made and can agonise over something I have said that has been misinterpreted so maybe I’m not so confident.
I spent my early childhood in Fiji and Australia then my early years of marriage, career and children again in Australia where there is no class structure or obvious societal hierarchy which I think helps one to feel more equal with all. Whether this is part of feeling confident or otherwise I don’t know.

I became more confident when I had children but before then I would not speak up - I hope I taught my DC confidence and the ability to speak up for themselves as well as consideration for others.

I give the impression of self confidence, I’m quite able to talk to people, teach, make a speech etc but I actually don’t have much self esteem. I think I’m pretty rubbish !

I am confident at work, I dont like parties but as Monica said I dont think liking parties is a sign of confidence particularly. Knowing what you like and being comfortable with that is a sign of confidence.

Parents can be a huge influence on how confident you are.
Lord Mountbatten’s mother told him he would rule the world or something similar, so he behaved accordingly. I wish I had had that, I was shy for a long time. I think it’s better that way though in the long run, as spoilt, confident children often turn into nasty adults.
As others have said, most people are a mix and different situations bring out different reactions.
I have an assumed confidence and a real confidence as I love talking to people and being in good company. The assumed confidence is through stage work, a case of “Fake it till you make it”

I think we all have areas of our lives where we are more confident than others - I’m fine with talking to a room full of people, doing presentations and the like, but really nervous when I have to deal with tradesmen who I want to do work on the house. I think it’s about our personal comfort zones?

I didnt used to be but as I’ve matured I’ve realised that no one else is that confident either!

I think it is really important to be well balanced rather than confident. The only people I have met and known who properly confident are those that really don't care for others and just believe in themselves. They are not huge in number. Most people have insecurities, have things they struggle at and things they feel they have strengths within. I am just genuine. It upsets some people though and tbh I often say nothing if I know it will upset someone I care about but even that upsets some people. Why does everything I write sound like I am whinging

I don’t believe anyone is truly confident but some are better at showing it than others. However, I mentioned this to my DS once and he replied that he is confident so who knows.
