Cream or jam first

The gone-v-cone thing brought to mind an event I attended about 30 years ago, the opening of a new gastropub. It was owned by Ind Coop, and there was always confusion of how to pronounce "Ind". So a leaflet was handed out to everyone which said that we should pronounce "Ind" as in "wind" as opposed to "Ind" as in "wind" . We never did get to find out the proper pronunciation, but it's given me a good ice-breaker in conversations for years!

How confusing!

I always pronounced it as in 'wind the bobbin up' rather than 'blow the wind southerly'

Jam then cream

Now I’m going to make some scones tomorrow - and it’s all you lot’s fault.

Scone as in gone. Which is what they are when I get near them!

I use a very small amount tbh.
Off to buy some,tut tut.

Always jam first for me, which reminds me I must get some clotted cream and do my own.

Oh and I forgot to say that it's jam then cream unless I have got some clotted cream, in which case that goes on first.

My Scottish ancestry insists on scone as in gone. I think we have now resurrected the other argument...

But scones have the edge!

Jam,jam,jam. As a child in Cornwall,it was always splits,not scones. I would so like to see a proper split revival in Cornwall and Devon.

I never eat scones, far too much fat and sugar. But you’ve got me thinking....

Which ever is the nearest to me, the jam or the cream. It tastes the same and goes down the same!

It never was a Scottish thing, but I took to it when I migrated south. I'd never put the cream on before the jam.

The jam and cream would squish out of the scone and how would you fit a whole decent sized scone into your mouth anyway?

When I lived in Derbyshire, I put jam on first, whether it was fruit or plain scone. Now I'm in Cornwall, it's always clotted cream.

Biggest advantage of jam first, is that you can spread a good layer of jam over the whole half and then spread the cream over the top. A dollop of jam on top of the cream, stays as a dollop. Very difficult to spread it around. Jam and cream must reach the edge for me.

My favourite is scone - jam - clotted cream - halved strawberry.

Of course, each half of the scone has to be treated the same. Never make a scone sandwich
