I remember it well, I got mine pieced on my 13th birthday, went to the jewellers with my mum and felt very brave sitting there waiting for the needle, ? was disappointed I couldn’t have nice gold studs though , had to have the awful thin hoop, felt very grown up and couldn’t wait until Xmas few months later to get my first gold studs

30 for my BD, my best friend took me and paid + studs. The old fashioned way, cork and punch

Did I say it was Kittylester!!! It was a question, just like other questions that are asked on the gransnet forums! Everyone else has answered, so why the exclamation marks! If you don’t like the post then ignore, instead of sarcasm jeez!!!!!

I think kittylester was joking.

No need for a touchy post TrendyNannie6
We're not all trendy.

I was about 28. I remember my then 4 year old DD asking why I had hearing aids.
Nowadays my eldest DGS wears more earrings than I do . ?

18th birthday present from my best friend. My mum wasn’t too keen, but two years later she had hers done too so I was forgiven.
I’ve never regretted it, I love earrings, and usually wear some the same friend got me years later. She died a few years ago now, so they bring back happy memories every time I wear them.

Callistemon, I don’t regard my post being the least bit touchy! We’re not all trendy says you, ???? that’s hilarious

I was 16 when I had mine done, nearly 50 years ago.

Unfortuantely I've got out of the habit of wearing them now, but I noticed my sister was wearing a nice pair today and I'd already made a mental note to try putting a pair in tomorrow!

Mid 30s. Painlessly at a local chemists.

Loved them, clip earrings were so painful.

I always wore studs for daily wear, danglies for best. I haven't worn earrings for a long time now so the holes might have closed up. Perhaps I'll try some on tomorrow.. smile

Mid 20’s I think.......lost in the mists of time!! Tend to have just one good pair of small earrings which I wear all the time.

I was 32, I had them done in Jersey on holiday.

Never!

I have never had mine done and I do regret it.
The nicest earrings are for pierced ears.
My D had hers done with my blessing as a teen as did my GD.
They both wear lovely classy earrings.

I was 11 and on holiday visiting my grandparents in Italy. It was my present from gran. I chose the earrings I liked and the jeweller pierced my ear lobes and put them straight in.
My 14 year old brother standing next to me passed out when the first one was done so I had to wait half an hour for the other one to be done whilst he was tended to. ?

17, the year before I went to Uni. Rotating those rings was my secret nightmare. Studs were a relief.

I must have been about 5

I don’t remember being offered a drink when I had mine done.
?

I was about 30y. I’ve worn a pair every day since (apart from being incarcerated for lockdown). If I’m going out I’d feel wrong without earrings.

fiorentina that really made me giggle!

TrendyNannie6 Wed 28-Apr-21 22:41:47

Callistemon Let me explain to you why I am laughing! You have said to me not everyone’s trendy! A pop at my username which incidentally was chosen by my young grandson, your not sure why it’s funny? I didn’t realise I had to ask permission before I laugh! ZzzzzzzzzGoodnight

I was in my early 30s when I wore a lot of the heavy, chunky 80's jewellery . I got fed up of earrings falling off and the clips hurting my ears.
As a few others have mentioned, pressure from Mum (or in my case a very strict aunt), prevented me from being brave enough to do it any earlier!

Welshwife Wed 28-Apr-21 22:54:35

I was 15 and mum took me to an optician who did it. I remember how everything was sterilised. I had the sleeper rings - he used a punch which left a needle thing in so he put the sleeper in from the back and as it went in pushed the needle out.
Have to be careful about the wires or studs I wear as some metals cause inflammation to my lobes - mainly stick to gold or silver ones.

My Dad took me when I was 13 against my mum's wishes!
I kept them covered for weeks after..I had long hair.
I still have the gold studs my Dad bought me too, tremendously precious.

Urmstongran Wed 28-Apr-21 23:00:01

That reminds me of something someone said years ago at work that made me laugh.

Another colleague liked colours and often wore coloured costume jewellery to match her outfits.

I complimented her on her coordinated look. My co-worker said in her best Hyacinth Bucket voice ‘I just find that gold goes with everything!’.

Age 14 at the GP Surgery, must have been a side line for her, hid them (sleeper rings) at convent school for ever. Ages before I could actually put earrings in myself, my dad used to do them for me!
