Talking of cabbage, I’d never thought of it as an Asian thing at all, until dh was based in Indonesia for a year and I first joined him for a week.
We went on a trip to Mount Bromo (mountain with volcano at the top) and once we’d climbed high enough to be out of the rice paddy zone, the green slopes were covered with very neat, diagonally shaped little fields - all full of cabbages! Millions of them.
Something of an eye opener for me.
But any recipe you see here for e.g. a stir-fry, never mentions cabbage - it’s always more exotic-sounding (often imported) ingredients, such as pak Choi, baby sweet corn, etc.
Needless to say I will often add cabbage to a stir fry, along with anything else I happen to have.
