I was so saddened by the interview with harry and megan , why would two people who have got exactly what they wanted are happy to create such pain for others

theworriedwell Sat 22-May-21 11:39:03

Mollygo the thing for me is the truth seems a bit flexible for Harry. William persuaded him to go into therapy, no his family wouldn't support that so Meghan got him into therapy, various first words for baby, wedding was private 3 days before we thought it was, oh no it was when we thought it was.

None of it matters to me really but I've had a couple of people in my life who were compulsive liars and it just gets a bit annoying to listen to people when you are always wondering if this is the real version and if you will hear another version tomorrow.

The caring Charles Spencer, speaking of his first wife who suffered an eating disorder-

‘my father told me to stick with Victoria through thick and thin, those who know Victoria know she is thick and she certainly is thin’ .

That is vile, I'd never heard that. What a horrible man. I hope she is OK, I don't really know anything about him or her, was the very attractive girl at Harry's wedding their daughter? She was a stunner.

No, it was Spencer's first wife Victoria Aitkin (daughter of Jonathan).
They married in 1989.

Harry should never have gone to Afghanistan if his mental health was as bad as he says. He would have been a danger to others.
When he speaks'his truth' it's still meghan's words coming out. He is not a happy married man.

FannyCornforth Sat 22-May-21 11:55:25

Sorry - I got confused, ignore my above comment (but she was his first wife)

If we stopped all soldiers with m.h or drug/alcohol serving, they’d be few to choose from

Honestly if people want to criticise they really should find out what they are talking about first. H talks about his army career, how the routine and discipline made him feel safe. He also points out that many of the recruits come from damaged backgrounds and that their experiences afterwards are similar to his. How Meghan knows what he was feeling then I have no idea.
People who have mental health problems can and do hold down difficult and demanding jobs in many areas and do so very successfully (ever heard of Alistair Campbell?). They tend to manage outside events but at great personal cost sometimes self medicating with alcohol or drugs in their leisure time.
You really don't understand mental health problems do you lemsip?

My SiL was in Afghanistan around the same time as Harry and it was the making of him. He proudly displays his medals. BUT like Harry that was over 15 years ago and time marches on. Unlike Harry, however, our SiL has sensibly taken all the good things from this experience and applied them to his life which is now happy and fulfilled.

Gosh that comment about Victoria is awful sad I always remember how she had so many children so quickly and really didn't seem well and I'd have been quite young myself at the time confused isn't it funny what you remember?

FannyCornforth Sat 22-May-21 12:54:03

Jane same here. Victoria and Spencer and their relationship must have struck a chord somehow.

Criticising the man's military service and what came after is crossing the line, really.

Just listen to yourselves. If this was any other ex-serviceman would you be saying he shouldn't have joined, he should have done better after he left.

Your attitude is disgraceful.

I didn't say he shouldn't have joined.
I didn't say he should have done better after he left.
What I did say is that he could have learned from his experiences in the army- both tough and good - and drawn on them.

How do you know he didn't?
He set up the Invictus games. He was a valued and active supporter of ex-servicemen. He is still valued by many of his military colleagues.

It's ridiculos to compare your SIL's post military activities with H's.

Ellianne Sat 22-May-21 14:57:49

Ridiculoso (??) or not, trisher, I am not talking about post service activities or jobs, I am talking about the inner person. ie the journey they go on as an individual while in the army.
My SiL's post military activities are now as far from the military as they possibly could be, but the training, team work, camaraderie and respect he learned remain with him. We can all choose to use our experiences in a positive way.

Sorry bit confusing. I meant was the very attractive young woman, Kitty Spencer I think, the daughter of Charles Spencer and Victoria? I think he has a few.

I don't think it was criticising his career, just about if he was well enough for his and others safety. My husband was a police officer and qualified as a firearms officers, I know the police were very careful about people's mental health. Killing people can take a toll on the most robust people, if someone has some issues it might not be the best thing in the long run. Every employer has a duty of care to employees so it has to be considered.

It is like Harry being upset he was brought home when it became known that he was out there. He hated that but he was putting others in danger because he was a target, not his fault but it was still relevant. Sometimes these things get complicated.

He didn't marry Victoria Aitken, daughter of Jonathan, FannyC
She was Victoria Lockwood
Catherine Victoria Lockwood is the daughter of John Lockwood, an airline executive,[1] and Jean Lockwood (née Holt). On 16 September 1989, she married Charles Spencer, then Viscount Althorp, at the Church of St Mary, Great Brington. During her first marriage she was known as Viscountess Althorp, and later as Countess Spencer.

She later married a completely different Jonathan Aitken (now divorced)

Callistemon thank you! Apologies to everyone else. I've made a right balls up. Just ignore me. I'll just sit over here for a while and listen grin

I didn't even mean to post that bloody emoji

Sorry Fanny I think I started off confusing you.

Someone, on this or another thread suggested Harry was making his programmes to help others; ''if it happens to me it can happen to anyone. This may be so, but he is not a skilled presenter or interviewee and his words are very open to interpretation.
The point is, he is following exactly the same route as his mother when she engaged with the duplicitous Martin Bashir, leading to ridiculous conspiracy theories, heightening her paranoia and devastating Prince William. Participating in television programmes with trashy presenters is not going to improve anyone's mental health.

It's ok.

Ps I am not a sycophant
?

Am I being a pedant? A pedant is a person who is excessively concerned with formalism, accuracy, and precision, or one who makes an ostentatious and arrogant show of learning.

In other words, just irritating ?

Smileless2012 Sat 22-May-21 15:53:05

Someone made a similar link yesterday eazybee suggesting that Oprah may be to H what Bashir was to Diana. Not that she's used underhand tactics to get these interviews, but she does appear to be riding high on the wave of his pain and issues.

Yes, Earl Spencer has several pretty daughters, not sure by which wives as he’s had about three I think!

Kitty and Amelia are two of them I believe.

They all seem to be models/socialites/ Girls in Pearls.
