Good morning everyone from an overcast Northampton, with showers forecast again today. I live in hopes though, and have just put a load of washing in the machine. Just sitting here with my cup of tea and a cat on my lap having her morning cuddle.
Had a lovely time at the shops yesterday with DD. I returned the stuff that didn't fit, bought the next size up T-shirt, and found a shoulder bag for half price in Accessorize. Some new make-up in Boots was also acquired, along with a pack of daily low dose aspirins. Then we sat out in the sun and enjoyed a caramel latte. Nearly bought a new phone, but apparently they could not sell me the one I wanted; it was only available on a contract. However I have found it elsewhere, so will order it and take it over to DD's next time, when they will set it up for me. I've had my present phone for about 6 years and it is starting to make weird noises.
Yesterday would have been DH's birthday, so it was good to have company for most of the day. We raised a glass in his memory; he would have been 78, and I miss him so much.
Not much planned for today, just a bit of tidying up, knitting and reading, and get some lamb chops out of the freezer for dinner tonight.
Sorry you are feeling down, *grand Mattie"; hope that you and everyone else find a bit of sunshine ? today.

Good Morning Monday
(63 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its looking grey overhead but at the moment its dry here in Brackley.
Today a quiet day in nothing planned apart from watching the drama unfold in the cycle race in Italy.
Will tinker about my flat today.
Take Care,
Mick
Morning all from cloudy but dry at the moment Black country.
Not a lot planned at the monastery today some admin and ironing, also need to take some bags round to the charity shop will phone to see which one will accept them.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Sar, save me some cheese and onion pie please. ?
Me too Sar it’s my most favourite pie. ?
Just a large slice.
Good morning all from a grey skyed Essex. Yesterday , as Sar says it rained on and off all day and last evening it was torrential.
We had the family round and a merry time was had by all , sitting in the conservatory with doors open .
Today the diabetes nurse will be phoning at 8.20 with more results of DH’s blood test and advice re diet and meds. I hope she does phone this time as last week we were hanging about for the call which never came ?.
Mattie. - I do hope you start to feel a bit more cheerful, with news of your son coming home. ?.
Grandmafrench - hopefully, you are feeling less sore today. What a trip you had ?. ?.
Urms love the rainbow umbrella. Little DG has just been given a raincoat covered In flamingos. The little girls would look so cheerful walking along together , one with rainbows and the other with flamingos ??.
Not much doing today. Might finish my book and order some wool for a baby blanket. We won’t know what sex the baby is , so will probably go for cream.
Wishing you all a pleasant day ?
Good morning from the Scottish Borders. It is cold and wet and I am supposed to be going on a Bluebell walk with the U3A. I cannot stop yawning. I will get the bus to the start point and since I haven't been on a bus for about a year I am nervous.
Your tale of the Ebay queen Marydoll reminds me of a film I love called secondhand wedding it's a funny/weepie
www.imdb.com/title/tt1210359/
Sorry you are down today grandMattie. I blame the weather and the phases of the moon/day of the week but I hope you can soon get back your joie de vivre.
I took my DS dog for a walk yesterday and we met an identical one.
Good morning Muck, morning all from South Lanarkshire where the sky is looking rather grey.
An unexpectedly warm day yesterday led to me pottering about outside doing some ‘yard work’ as my cousins across the pond call it. Not so much gardening as sweeping and picking up bits of twigs. No idea where it all comes from, there must be some very busy birds dropping nesting materials as they cross our wee patch.
Well today’s the day at last. I’ll be going into DD’s house for the first time since last summer. The girls will all be at school and we will look after their brother so DD & SiL can go out for lunch together. I don’t know when they were last able to have time to themselves.
I hope everyone who is able to meet family or friends today has a lovely time and a virtual hug for those who aren’t yet able to.
grandMattie, I’m sorry you’re feeling so low, a huge hug for you.
Wishing everyone a peaceful day.
Good morning from S Lanarkshire, dry and with a reasonably good forecast?
Huge day for me, I’m off to look after my two youngest GC for two hours after school. It’s an hour’s drive each way and, as I haven’t been doing anything like that for nearly 17 months I had intended to take the train in case I feel tired on the way home. However I would have to change trains in Glasgow and as Marydoll has said, it’s ‘out of bounds’ again so I’ll just be careful on my return journey.
I am so happy but also ‘nevaxcited’ for some reason!
Hoe you feel better as the day goes on grandMattie and that your injuries aren’t too painful today Grandmafrench, your fall sounded horrific.
I’ve just heard the National Youth Choir of Scotland on BBC Breakfast, singing ‘You raise me up’, in the open air on top of Carlton Hill in Edinburgh, I hope some of you caught it, absolutely beautiful.
Wishing everyone the best day possible ??
Good morning. DH has golf today so I shall be pottering on my own. Jobs around the house to catch up on.
I’m going to treat myself and order some sandals and casual shoes and some. natural soaps.
If the rain holds off I’ll pop down to town and then have a wander down by the river.
? to those who are feeling sad or poorly.
Hope you all find a ?today.
Good morning all from another gorgeous start to the day on the east coast of Fife where the suns shining bright.
Might have to cease my napping throughout the day my sleep last night wasn’t too good, mind you it’s no wonder I was restless having consumed a box of maltesers all to myself. Gluttony comes to mind.
There’s the neighbours hard at it knocking and bashing their house into shape. Shouldn’t be too long now before all their work is complete then the lovely young couple can move into their first home. My dainty wee granddoggy goes to hospital today hope he gets on okay it’s costing his mum and dad a fortune even with doggy insurance.
Have a good day everyone and continue to dae as yer telt.
Good morning Mick and all his followers. A grey start in Suffolk after a pretty good day yesterday. I cut the grass ( it really doesn’t deserve to be called a lawn!) and it made such a difference.
I am taking my sewing machine to the village hall today to make new curtains. There will be four of us, well spaced out. We have checked fabric, so we need to line up the squares for 5 windows. Not as easy as a plain fabric!
? for grandMattie & Grandmafrench and ? for everyone else.
Good morning Mick and all. A gloriously sunny morning on the S Welsh coast.
Sorry you are feeling low grandMattie it is hard to find any positives at times, life feels as though we are just bumping along the bottom doesn't it. My best wishes to you.
You will have to find a new spot to keep your eggs Maw.
Our pup is 11 months old now and he can jump so high, so everything has to be moved well back from the edge of the worktops. Looking forward to a walk with him today.
Hope that Cherry, Susan, Aunty Flo are ok.
Wishing you all a pleasant day.
Good morning Mick and all from S Hants where it’s not raining, yet, showers due later after a wet weekend when not a lot was done.
Today is washing, vape shop, library and a man calling to look at some boxing needed in the downstairs toilet. I’ll swoop in on DD and DG’s when they’re in from school for a big 15 months worth of hugs. Then Mr J and I will nip into our local pub for a swift drink and a hello to the faces we’ve missed.
grandMattie sometimes down days have no rhyme nor reason but I’m sad you’re having one this morning, ? something will lift you today. Also hoping Grandmafrench is healing nicely.
Enjoy all your ‘outs and abouts’ today all, stay dry and safe ???.
Good morning Auntyflo and all x
Morning all. Dull in Cheshire but dry.
Lovely umbrellaUrmstongran
Nothing much planned for today but two youngest grandchildren coming for tea on Friday - their routine before lockdown. Have already asked them what they fancy ! Home made chips will definitely be on the menu !
Hope the day brings some good things to all.
Good morning everyone. It's a fresh sunny day in the Gower.
I'm enjoying a cuppa whilst I'm waiting for the contractors to arrive. Feeling a bit brain fogged this morning, not sure why but using my brain cell is hard ?. Perhaps I need a pair of Doc Martens, like harrigran's DGDs to kick it into shape ?
Sorry to hear that you are feeling so down grandMattie. I try to take a leaf out of AA Milne's books and "when it rains, play in the puddles". It's pants, but necessary, that your DS will have to quarantine when he returns but it will be wonderful when you see one another
It's always particularly difficult when dates like birthdays come around BlueSapphire, I'm glad you had company and you could raise a glass to your departed DH ?
I know you'll still be bruised Grandmafrench but I hope you're not still shaken from that nasty fall x
Thinking of Susan and Auntieflo
Thank you Marydoll I'm sure that as the day goes on I'll recover my brain cell ?
Take care everyone, be kind to yourselves ❤️
Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s pouring down. Perhaps not such bad news as I put some feed on the front lawn yesterday.
Some friends called in the afternoon and when they went to leave the car wouldn’t open. We thought probably the key battery but the emergency key wouldn’t turn in the lock either. Cue YouTube and much fiddling to try to get the battery out and see if I had a spare. I didn’t...Key put back together and it worked. Crazy!
Dentist this morning and a zoom call later.
Have a good day everyone. Stay safe.
Morning all, grey and rainy here. Poor you Grandmattie, there doesn't have to be a reason to feel down, but it comes in waves and should ease off a bit soon. Perhaps buy a little present for your som to give him when he comes home, and give yourself a treat while you are at it. Flowers, chocolates and a magazine are my go-tos.
Wishing you a good recovery from that horrible fall GMFrench. You might need air freshener as well as open windows Maw, how many eggs did she manage to eat?
No mention from the repair company when they will turn up, so we will be 'locked in' waiting fir him whilst the rest of you are released. It will be such a relief to have a working freezer again.
Onwards and upwards!
Just popped back in over breakfast, fabulous pictures brook, I envy your ability to walk 12 miles, no longer possible for me!
Enjoy your Bluebell walk Grammaretto, sounds lovely even in the damp!
Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s not raining yet in South Yorkshire, but it’s going to, with a thunder and lightning accompaniment apparently. Nothing much doing for us today except to defrost the freezer which is making a strange noise. I panic when things make strange noises. Then I panic when they stop making strange noises in case they’ve died! The family came for lunch yesterday and GS was helping me sort out the photos on my laptop, some of which predate him. There was much hilarity at seeing those of his father taken thirty years ago when he first got together with DD. I said “Your children will be laughing at photos of you one day, so don’t laugh too soon, laddie!”
Enjoy your day, and I hope someone somewhere has some sunshine.
Good Morning All x.
Not good with this blasted weather, it's wearying. Dull and threatening at the moment with rain not far away, by way of a change.
Should be doing all sorts of things indoors really, mmm
First job will be to throw the 3 week old chrysanths in the bin. They've done very well but have come to their end now. I'll just enjoy the outdoor shrubs when they're in flower soon.
No excitement to report, though might notice a few more passers by than usual and possibly hear a bit more traffic in the sky.
I'm trying to type with the cat on my knee who's fussing and her fluffy tail is swishing over my face
she doesn't know what to be up to this morning and has that look of mischief.
Watching those on TV off to Portugal, lucky things, in the warmth. I don't know about the mask-wearing though, it's not the same. Sunburn will look a bit patchy, like a piebald horse.
Hope everyone is alright and those of you who are heading to meet families etc. enjoy your time.
Keep all windows open Maw
sorry, but I had a titter. Rosie is going to keep you on your toes.
Thoughts to our " other friends " hoping all is well with them. Stay safe and take care xx
Good morning from a cloudy but dry East Midlands. A walk out this morning and weeding this afternoon, weather permitting. More knitting tonight of dog blankets for Battersea. Have a lovely day and stay safe and sane.
harrigran, the Doc Martens remind me of DS2’s proudest moment at school. It was the mid-1990s and he needed new school shoes. He was growing at 1” per month and it was lol I could do to keep up. I scoured Canterbury and the towns nearby and couldn’t find size 13 shoes. The only thing that wet up to 13 were Docs. In despair, I bought a pair.
Naturally, the next day the school rang up to say they weren’t allowed. I replied that I was totally aware of the ban but couldn’t find any other type of shoe to fit him. If they could buy him a pair of ordinary shoes, I would gladly pay them back. Silence on the other end of the phone...
His school mates were insanely jealous that he was allowed Docs!
Good Morning everyone. Thanks so much for your good wishes and concerns. I’m feeling much better but still being careful. I normally dash about and of course, there’s no need. More haste less speed comes to mind.
Such sadness today to hear of daisyboots finally giving up her brave fight. She was so brave and so positive - even when often let down by some of the medical team who cared for her in Portugal. She loved so much about her ‘accidental’ country : she’d planned on living in France until a house they fell in love with online then turned out to be in Portugal ! She was brave and uncomplaining and always concerned for others. RIP now, dear lady. You’ll be missed. xx?xx
Your DH would be so proud of you, BlueS, and what you’ve struggled with and had to overcome along with the awful times you’ve had to live through. Wishing hard that your life continues to improve and the pain and sadness lessens. ?
I’m sad you’re sad, Grandmattie. Do something today that you don’t normally do - it might help to shake off the glooms? Your Son’s booked to come home, all’s improving with Little Miss Flamingo, life’s bumping along - hopefully - you just need a big dose of blue skies and sunshine. This is a weird year for that (even here), so smile patiently and maybe you’ll convince yourself that life’s on the up ! x
Only a dozen eggsworth of mayhem, Maw? Well, I think little Rosiechops was VERY restrained without her Mum. (Hopefully her restraint will continue ?........)
Fantastic walking country, brook. How could spirits not be lifted looking at such countryside.
Sun’s arrived for the day. Outside eateries will be open from 17th - this week and I think our curfew will start 2 hours later. Whoop de doo. ???
Enjoy your freedom, dear people, but after all you’ve gone through, please take care.
?♀️?????????????????????
Morning all. Grey but dry this part of the Scottish Borders. Had lovely trip to Melrose on Saturday plus to nearby hamlet where we stayed last year. There was a plant stall near the village hall (hamlet hall?) and my husband bought some geraniums and lavender. Lovely idea to raise funds and a momento of a special place. Made scones earlier. I make such a mess. My lovely dog hangs around in hope of scraps. I hope everyone has a good a day as possible. Found the Scandi stuff dragged me down so read Jon McGregor's Lean Fall Stand. Take care.x
