What rituals or habits do you have which may seem odd to others?

I have just been reading an interesting thread on MN about this, and wondered if anyone on here has any habits which may seem odd to others? For example; I always put on my right sock first, always make the bed before getting into it even if I have forgotten to make it after turning it back to air in the morning, cannot abide cold drinks out of a mug, check the external doors at least twice before going to bed.

Have to get next day’s clothes out before going to bed, can’t think in the morning. DH pairs same mugs up in the cupboard and we have to get a matching pair out, makes me laugh.

I thought I was the only oddball who uses pegs to match the colour of the clothes I am hanging out! I even bought a pack of neutral ones for the more unusual colours I have in my wardrobe.
It takes a bit longer to hangout the washing but it makes me happy to see it so why not?

Danni I do that with the blister packs. Did you know you can now recycle them in a bin in Superdrug?

Bone china mugs with white inside
Matching clothes pegs
Make the bed before lunch and/or leaving the house
Pyjamas on after dinner before sitting down to watch TV
Dogs get breakfast before me
Read book, Guardian, some puzzles before getting up
Skim pool for flies, mice, frogs before getting in

I have loads of habits similar to those already mentioned. Such as different mugs and glasses for different drinks. Clothes in wardrobe arranged in different colours. I put everything ready for next days breakfast the night before. Get up at the same time every morning and watch Breakfast on TV whist having my breakfast then finish showering and dressing just as my help arrives. Bed change Monday, tops and skirts Tuesday, towels Thursdays, beauty treatments hair, nails etc, Sundays.

I have to close all cupboard doors before I can go to bed

When I take tablets out of a blister pack I snip off the empty bit to keep the remaining strip neat hmm

I am sure I have loads. I am continually making lists in my head and try and remember them by the first letter. If possible I edit the items on a shopping list so they all start with the same letter, sometimes using, say, a brand name or another language.

I'm the one who leaves random items around the house and my OH rounds them up and puts them away grin but asks me questions about them first because sometimes there is order in my chaos and I don't like it being messed with grin.

I'm too scatty to have rituals!

Getting my clothes laid out for work the next day before I go to bed.

Open the windows before I go to sleep. Can't sleep unless I do.

Don't have many really.

Too many to mention all but certainly the wardrobes habits and washing line practices listed here. I tour the house several times a day making sure everything is in its place...DH leaves random objects about drives me potty.

I hate my hot drinks in any thick mug - always has to be fine bone china at home. My DM would never use a mug, always a teacup and saucer.

DanniRae I do that with the baked beans too, also because they get stuck in sink plug hole!

Sar53 Mon 17-May-21 19:59:21

Some of these have made me chuckle, but I too have my foibles. Certain mugs for tea and a special one for coffee. I always take a glass of water to bed but I have to rinse it out three times before filling it.
If the vertical blinds aren't straight I have to get up and straighten them. When I wear socks it's always right foot on first.
I'm sure there are others I haven't remembered.

DanniRae Mon 17-May-21 19:47:18

I decide what I am going to wear before I get up. I always run the cold tap for a while first thing in the morning so as not to use the water that has been sitting in the pipes. I never leave any baked beans in the tin as I feel they have gone through so much before being put in the tin - growing, cooking, canning- it doesn't seem right to not use them confused I am sure I will think of more things .......... !!

3dognight Mon 17-May-21 19:26:54

I can only drink out of a white insided mug, and the rim must be thin.
Most of my clothes don’t make it into the wardrobe - they get draped on a big wicker chair - jumpers on the back, tee shirts on the seat, jeans and trousers on the arms, but I must have my next day socks out.

Going to sleep I must lay on my right side first ( my worrying side, meaning if I am worrying about something I can only do it when laid on this side).
After ten minutes, I turn over and lay on my non worrying side and usually go straight to sleep.

Before we return to bed with our early morning tea, the bed has to be tidied up and the duvet smoothed.

CanadianGran Mon 17-May-21 18:53:07

Light switches... when there are two switches on separate sides of the room, I will ensure up is on, and down is off, even if I have to cross the room to use the other switch.

DH is an electrician, so we have switches everywhere! I do understand the clothes peg thing. I don't hang my wash often, but my pegs are all wooden.

Grandmajean Mon 17-May-21 18:48:58

I don't like tea from a mug with a coloured inside.
I plan the evening meal before I get out of bed in the morning.
My really embarrassing and weird one ? If I drop a piece of carrot or potato on the floor when making a casserole I have to wash it and put it back in the dish because I feel sorry for it !!

EllanVannin Mon 17-May-21 18:36:27

Different cups for drinks----coffee, hot choc, tea. a glass for water, never a cup.
I'm not the only one using the same colour pegs grin nice to know.
I also arrange dinners the same, meat draped on the edge, then roast pots, then veggies----not all dumped in the middle of the plate any old how.

Redhead56 Mon 17-May-21 18:34:42

New Year’s Day I wouldn’t be capable of stripping a bed.

Kim19 Mon 17-May-21 18:31:15

I don't get out of bed before I've decided exactly what I am going to wear.

H1954 Mon 17-May-21 18:29:39

Like mrswoo, I don't like coloured interior mugs or Pyrex mugs either.
When I peg out socks they have to be pegged singularly but have the matching sock next to it AND have matching pegs.
I won't strip the bed on a Sunday or New Years Day.

Redhead56 Mon 17-May-21 18:23:43

I almost forgot I am an expert at hanging washing so it keeps the ironing down to virtually none.
