Hi I am having my first vaccine tomorrow I'm 60+ I am very scared can I have. Some word of encouragement. Thank you.

BlueberryPie Fri 21-May-21 03:28:58

I've had both of mine and didn't think it was any big deal at all. I do look the other way and count backwards from 100 whenever I get a shot of any kind, though.

Nanderin Fri 21-May-21 03:35:14

I'm not worried about actual needle it's after I'm stressing about. Thanks for replying

nadateturbe Fri 21-May-21 03:53:42

Nanderin I worry about everything. So I was convinced that I would be lucky to survive this vaccination as I have M.E and fibro and am not a good sufferer. I had to keep telling myself the vast majority of people were fine afterwards and that it was better to have it than not to have it. First one I was a bit fluey and in bed for almost two days and I couldn't sleep on the arm for a few nights It went a bit red and swollen. after a week but faded. Second injection. ..nothing at all. This was the AZ vaccine. We waste so much time worrying about things that don't happen. I feel much safer now, although still being careful. Try to concentrate on the positives of having it ?

Hi thank you for your help.

FannyCornforth Fri 21-May-21 04:21:28

Hello nanderin (and Nadateturbe!)
I worry about everything too. smile

Do you have any other health conditions which you are thinking will make things worse for you?
Is that why you have been putting it off?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but it will help to understand what you are worried about.

I'll be honest, my DH had bad side effects with the first one but that was because he had already had Covid.
He has just had the second and he was fine apart from a headache.

If you are that concerned, in your position I would speak to my GP or a practice nurse.

Nadateturbe is so right; concentrate on the positives!

Hithere Fri 21-May-21 04:48:30

It will be ok!

It is not that bad at all

Nanderin Fri 21-May-21 04:54:50

Thank you for saying that I don't like horror stories

nanna8 Fri 21-May-21 04:57:21

I was fine after the first az one, just slightly tired but that may have been normal anyway. I am having the flu vaccine this afternoon and the next az in June. Better safe than sorry !

Nanderin Fri 21-May-21 05:04:12

Thank you good luck today
I will come back and see how you are.

Bigred18 Fri 21-May-21 05:49:35

We are slow here, aren't we Nanna! I've had one AZ, 2 weeks later flu jab, and 2nd AZ in July. So many deciding not to have any jab which is unfair to the rest of us. I had no side effects from either jab.

absent Fri 21-May-21 05:54:13

I haven't been called for mine yet, but will go for it like a shot. I have had many vaccinations as I have travelled widely and there have been one or two – most notably typhoid – that have made me feel really wretched. However, Covid is a truly horrible and quite often fatal disease, especially for those of us getting on in years, so a bit of discomfort or a raised temperature seems a small price to pay. Better than the alternative, I reckon.

FannyCornforth Fri 21-May-21 05:54:48

Nanderin is there a reason why you haven't had your first vaccine yet?
Is it because you are worried about side effects?
I've got my second one in two weeks, and I'm under 50 (just!)

FannyCornforth Fri 21-May-21 05:56:42

Are you in the UK op?
absent - are you in the UK?
Sorry about all of the questions, but I'm getting confused!

BigBertha1 Fri 21-May-21 06:59:07

I've had both my AZ with no problems at all. Happy to go out and about now. When you go to the centre tell them you are anxious they are very happy to give some extra reassurance and support.

GranEd Fri 21-May-21 07:13:53

Hi Nanderin ?

Hope you’re OK and not worrying too much. I’ve had both of mine with no side effects at all. ... same for DD2.
DH and DGD2 had a slightly sore arm after their first vaccine but no reaction at all with their second.
DD1 is in Canada and just had her first vaccine with no side effects.
Fingers crossed ? you’re as lucky as us.
As absent says better a bit of discomfort than the alternative..
Sending positive thoughts your way.

Oldwoman70 Fri 21-May-21 07:37:42

I have had both mine. The first a slight headache and sore arm for a couple of days, second just a sore arm - try not to worry.

nanna8 Fri 21-May-21 07:38:37

Just had the flu one and they whacked in a new pneumonia one at the same time on the other arm. So far so good. Sheez. Ive had more vaccinations this year than for a long while. Also the shingles one a couple of months back. Good thing is, they were all free.

silverlining48 Fri 21-May-21 07:52:40

Good morning world we are just waking up here in the uk,
I was so excited when I had my vaccines )AZ) and had no problem at all. Thing is what is worse? a sore arm or intensive care. Don’t worry be happy ?

ginny Fri 21-May-21 07:52:42

Nanderin my eldest daughter has a phobia about needles . She went for her first jab yesterday and was extremely stressed on the way there. She explained to the helpers and everyone was so kind and did their best to calm her.
I’m sure you will find the same.

seacliff Fri 21-May-21 07:54:36

Have paracetamol or cold remedy tablets ready for first night if you're feeling a bit "strange". My husband had flu like symptoms first time after az. I had Pfizer all fine.

JaneJudge Fri 21-May-21 07:57:04

I reacted to my first one but I also think I had Covid last February BUT the reaction only lasted 2 days and I felt fine after that. I have had to rearrange my 2nd one for Monday so I have cancelled all my commitments just in case but I'm hoping it's not as bad! I hope it goes well today

Fleur20 Fri 21-May-21 08:13:21

Pfizer jav..no reaction to first... felt like a marble under the skin for 24 hours after second.. no other effect. Explain your concerns at the centre and the staff will look after you well.

JenniferEccles Fri 21-May-21 08:19:23

What are you afraid might happen?

Peasblossom Fri 21-May-21 08:24:13

I’ve had both of mine. Neither my partner nor myself had any side effects at all. I was out digging the garden the next day!

All my children and their partners have had their first vaccine. No side effects.

Millions of vaccines given now. Please don’t worry
