Mine = pair of Levis bought in 1981, can still (just about) get in them.

A Max Mara cashmere coat which I bought in a sale30 years ago. It's a soft yellow colour with a huge cowl like collar which doubles as a hood. It's got a little moth damage but it still has it's original "wow" factor and looks stylish.

A raincoat I bought when expecting my daughter - she is now 49!

A few from around the same period. About 40 years ago- overshirt, elastic waist skirt, and a hand knitted jumper. All very expensive at the time so possibly looked after a little better.

When I was 21 I knitted a dress in black 3 ply wool it had a polo neck, long skeeves and a sort of lattice strip of about 4” across the upper front. I wore it until the skirt got a bit baggy. Then I cut off the skirt to jumper length, unravelled some of the skirt and picked up the stitches and knitted a welt on to the top. I have worn it regularly since, the last time being this winter. I am now in my late 70s. Frankly it took ages to knit and it was rather boring, but I have certainly had good value from it!

Mum’s Italian silk scarf. She had had it for many years and passed it on to me when she died in 2002. Also, my grandma’s ring from the 1920s but it isn’t exactly clothing.

My summer dressing gown was bought 36 years ago. Still like it. It is a bit faded though!

A White Leather bomber style jacket I purchased in Selfridges in the 1960's - which I can still wear if I don't do it up! I can't bring myself to throw it out.

I wear a winter jacket that my mother re-styled from an "old one" in 1950. I love it.

I have a long black Jaques Vert coat with an astrakhan collar, I bought it in the 1980s. It is mainly worn for funerals and Remembrance Day.

A pair of unworn pure silk stockings which belonged to my mother in law. They date back to the 1930's. The white silk, quilted bed jacket given to me Christmas 1964 by my husband, in readiness for the birth of our first child. My trusty, navy cashmere coat circa 1976. Still in excellent condition.

An ancient Damart white cotton cardigan given to me by an aunt about thirty years ago, I really didn't like it, but thought it might be a useful bed jacket. I'm wearing it,sitting up in bed now writing this! grin

I was puzzling over what my oldest item of clothing was, when this reminded me smile
A Damart navy blue scarf that opens in the centre to make a hood if needed.Bought as a present for me by my mother, who sadly died when I was still in my 20’s.
I still wear it now and then as it’s really warm.

A longline jumper bought from the Sweater Shop circa late 1980s. It still looks as good as new.

A long dark blue cardigan made of sweat shirt material. Approx 30 years old from C&A and still perfect condition. Yesterday evening I went back outside to give my windowsills a second coat of paint and forgot to remove it.

I realised this morning there was a streak of paint on it. I couldn’t have been more upset if it had been a new expensive item. I set about the 12 hours old paint stain with a nail brush and fairy liquid and was delighted to see my cardi as good as new again.

Classic fine cotton red striped three quarter sleeve Breton top bought in the 70s in Brittany.
It comes out every summer without fail.

Smart jacket style, red wool Cardigan By Your 6th Sense from good old C & A, in the 70s. I bought it large luckily, now just fits with thin top under. Still get compliments when I wear it.

Oh my, this thread is so heartwarming! My oldest item of clothing is only 15 years old, it's a cotton jacket and it's timeless. However, as a keen dress maker and crafter I reuse garments to repurpose into other items in an attempt to reduce the amount of discarded clothing going into landfill.
It's wonderful to read that some GNetters have favourite garments from many years ago.

A red and white Masai summer dress. Probably 20 years old.

A traditional Shetland wool jacket that husband bought back for me in late 70’s. He had one as well but lost it!

A kilt bought before I became pregnant with son number one who will be 46 in August. I still wear it as it does not date and is very good quality.

A white/pink light dressing gown which I still wear and was bought for hospital birth of daughter over 35 years ago. Too sentimental to get rid!

MerylStreep Fri 21-May-21 14:09:21

My 2 Guernsey jumpers. The navy’classic’ one is over 40 years old, the other ‘tan’ coloured is 30 years old.

Think my Levi 501s are about the same age as yours Artaylar.
They’re size 10, sadly I’m not now! Can’t bring myself to part with them.

T-shirt my mum bought me in Florida which is at least 15 years old
