Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

I think infidelity is pretty equal amongst the sexes but I may have got my stats wrong.

Galaxy Wed 02-Jun-21 09:10:23

No I was wrong its 20 % of men compared to 13 % of women apparently.

FannyCornforth Wed 02-Jun-21 09:13:53

Galaxy that's quite a bit lower than I would have expected.
I wonder what others think

LauraNorder Wed 02-Jun-21 09:46:33

Does thinking about it count?

Hugh Jackman of course, couldn’t remember his name in the throes of passion

Galaxy Wed 02-Jun-21 09:50:56

Also presumably that's the ones who were caught or admitted to it. Not sure how they can be the most accurate statistics.

I don't think we'll ever know how many people cheat in these polls. People will lie about it.

I think when a thread appears in the email you read the OP and a few comments and boom you bang down your reply. Not really realising it has been going a few days.

I have just discovered the 'i'm on' and other joyous buttons at the bottom so have been freed to prowl round Gransnet at leisure!

I am not computer literate despite going to school when computing became a thing. I completed my degree on a typewriter when we were supposed to use a computer. I can't use printers or photocopiers either just a mind block.
Smart phones have been a revolution for me.

This is an answer to posts about people popping on and putting opinions after many pages of indepth discussion. I won't put my thoughts again on Boris's hypocritical Catholic Wedding!

Whatdayisit yesterday I had a right old moan about the Newsletter issue and this thread on the Site Stuff board

GillT57 Wed 02-Jun-21 12:17:29

I care not a jot for the restrictions or otherwise of the Catholic Church, cannot find a place in my life for any organised religion, thankfully. But, Johnson has done it again; get everyone arguing about canon law and take Cummings revelations off the front pages. He will soon run out of things to distract the Great British Public, but he is good at it, I will give him that.

He could go on Mastermind with "getting away with it" as his specialist subject but I suspect his general knowledge would not be good enough.

Does thinking about it count?

Apparently yes, it does.
So hands off Hugh Jackman!

Congratulations Boris and Carrie - can't blame them for going for a quiet wedding, anything else would have been a media circus. Her dress was beautiful - Boris as usual looked like a well-dressed tramp, but he wouldn't be Boris otherwise flowers

Saetana Wed 02-Jun-21 19:51:24

@DillytheGardner Now that is totally sexist and not something I would have expected from another woman. Carrie was his fiancee, not his mistress, which is in any event an old fashioned term that needs to die NOW! Why is it most often other women who criticise a woman - what happened to the sisterhood?

varian Wed 02-Jun-21 20:10:41

I don't think the term "mistress" is inappropriate, even today, for a woman who is in a sexual relationship with another woman's husband, which I gather the latest Mrs Johnson was before becoming a fiancee.

Saetana Wed 02-Jun-21 20:13:24

I really do not want to spell this out again but...Boris's first two marriages were in the Anglican Church, they do NOT count as Catholic marriages in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Carrie is a Catholic, Boris was also baptised as a Catholic - as his former marriages did not count in the eyes of the Catholic Church, this is why he and Carrie could marry in the Catholic Church. So far as the Catholic Church is concerned they are both being married for the first time in the faith. And, once again, Carrie was NOT Boris's Mistress, she was his fiancee and I have a serious issue with other women trying to make her less by using this term!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 02-Jun-21 20:17:21

What was she before they were engaged then? A non existent marriage breaker?

What a load of nonsense the Catholic Church spouts.

Galaxy Wed 02-Jun-21 20:29:53

She was having an affair with him whilst he was married is that any better. The responsibility for that infidelity is actually Johnsons as he was the married one. But am not sure you understand the meaning of sisterhood if you think it involves creating an alternative reality.

What a strange view of morality.
Very Henry 8th, dismiss the inconvenient first wives because they married him in Anglican services, so the marriages don’t count.
Re-frame Carrie Symonds as a fiancée to make her relationship with Johnson ‘respectable’. As others pointed out, he was married to Marina when his sexual relationship with CS began. Call me old fashioned but the term Mistress fits the Bill.

NotTooOld Wed 02-Jun-21 21:36:32

Can we get back to Hugh Jackman now, please? grin

Callistemon Wed 02-Jun-21 21:44:27

Happy to oblige!

GillT57 Wed 02-Jun-21 22:02:24

Fiance/mistress. However you spin it she was sleeping with another woman's husband. While said wife was battling cervical cancer.

And to add more insult the Catholic Church have declared it wasn't a marriage.
Mr Johnson and the current Mrs Johnson have no shame.

I know what name I called the woman who slept with my ex husband and it wasn’t mistress ?
