Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

How must the other two women that Boris married feel about having their marriages treated as 'none valid' by the Catholic Church?

GrammaGill Tue 01-Jun-21 18:56:15

Every time I see Carrie I try to imagine what it's like to have an affair with someone whose wife is having treatment for cancer.
And then I realise she's probably with the right man for her.

There’s something of the Henry eighth about all this. Although I believe the 3rd Mrs Johnson is a piece of work so her ‘new’ )hah) husband better watch out.

I’m a divorcee, DH is a divorced chapel going catholic. In the eyes of the Catholic Church, he’s not allowed to take communion but these days there are quite a few priests who recognise that they have to move with the times. His priest allows him to take it even though DH knows the congregation are judging him. He doesn’t care. And who are they (good Catholic Church goers) to judge anyone. Also against the “rules” the priest said he’d marry is if we wanted. We married in Italy in the end. The pope is a Jesuit priest so is much more open to moving with the times. Also DH’s sister ( a very strict catholic and in chapel every single day) insisted that DH needs to get an annulment before he marries me. He ignored her of course.

micky98, our old, Irish Canon was enlightened like that. I wish there were more like him.

Don't allow your husband's judgemental sister to upset you, none of her business.

According to BBC news I think it said that RC Church does not recognise marriages that have previously taken place in an Anglican Church. It also mentioned that Boris was baptised as a RC, but renounced his beliefs whilst at Eton. His baby son Wilfred has also been baptised as Roman Catholic. He embraces the faith of his mother Carrie who is Roman Catholic. I hope they have a happy and long lasting marriage. ?

I completely agree - such a bad example being given by the Church. Anything goes!

Illegitimate? Remind me what century we are in.

The repetitions on this thread are proof that most on GN don’t bother reading previous comments.

I don’t understand people not reading any of the thread. Weird just reading the OPnand bashing down your two pennorth.

Perhaps posters want to get straight to the point and/or answer the original question without the often irrelevance ipod the rest of the thread.

Or they are busy and just want to reply.

Boris and Carrie have got married!
Perhaps he's met his match at last!

She wont be the first woman to have thought that about a man. It's a fairly common idea. I can change him.

I do think that after everything that Bodger has been through, he'll be so grateful for the deep comfort of the double bed, as opposed to the hurly burly of the chaise lounge.

(Where is that from? Does anyone know?smile)

How hypocritical for all concerned to allow a twice divorced man to get married in a catholic church, when so many others have been refused.

Eloethan Tue 01-Jun-21 23:42:40

I think it brings the Catholic church into disrepute (as if it hasn't got enough problems already!). Two letters in the I from priests who are very unhappy about this as they have had to tell other couples that they cannot marry in the church because of previous divorce.

Of course, there are decent, principled people within all religions but the male-dominated power structures that seem to govern all religions are pretty corrupt and corrosive in my opinion.

NotSpaghetti Wed 02-Jun-21 00:55:21

Yes, I noticed that too Eloethan.

My Big Fat Catholic Wedding would make a good film.

I remember a joke about that. Women’s thoughts about marriage-
Aisle alter hymn.

I think that there is a type of man who is finally happy to settle down in their 50s.
It's just incredibly unfortunate for all of the women and children who were involved in the previous thirty years.

Galaxy Wed 02-Jun-21 08:54:00

I think it's usually a bit later than that, if you look at someone like Rod Stewart for example (the two have so much in commongrin) he was in his sixties. It's basically when you cant be arsed anymore. It takes quite a lot of effort, in terms of the deceit.

Once again.....
priests have had to turn others down ( Catholic couples) because the they have gone through a divorce but were married originally in a Catholic church. Therefore they cannot get married in a Catholic church again.
The RC church does not recognise marriages made previously
Either in C of E churches, chapels, or Register Offices, and therefore divorced couples who were baptised into the RC faith can marry again in a Catholic church.
It has nothing to do with how much money you have or your job.

It's s wonder anyone has a long, successful marriage, really, if you think about men and women's different biological imperatives
