That’s a lovely peony Maw. Do you know what kind it is?
Is it White Wings, MawBe?
I have a pink one which is similar in shape, called Bowl of Beauty.
I found the key that soop left.
I must complain that getting down to retrieve keys then getting up again is very tricky! Please leave them in a more accessible place in future.
Anyway here’s a bottle of Dom Perignon and a large iced bowl of caviar to open the kitchen!
( we’re going posh this time!

Oh can it get any worse for the Panaches. When my mum was dying I was allowed tp spend her last days with her. Surely they should make allowances?
I just read your update about your brother kitty. I am so sorry to hear your news. I do hope he starts to get better soon.
I am sorry too about your BiL’s diagnosis. That is a very cruel disease.
Great to see you back soop you have been sorely missed.
Update from Panache . Panache thinks MrP is not necessarily being treated as he should be because, despite his prognosis from February, his resilience and fighting spirit and his determination to carry on, are not ticking the right boxes as far as the hospital are concerned for someone on the end pathway.
Panache spent an hour with MrP today and didn’t have an escort so hopes she is winning that battle. MrP seems so pleased to see her and is doing all he can to keep being with her. The hospital is difficult to get to but Panache is taking it one day at a time.
Panache knows I am updating you all and I have passed on all your good wishes to her. She wants me to thank you all for being her steadfast support and to tell you it means so much to her.
Thank you Doodle for the update, it still makes me put my head in my hands, ‘not ticking the right boxes’, people are different, he should be respected and accommodated. How panache is managing, or even functioning is beyond me, she has my utmost admiration, my thoughts and love are with her I wish I could offer more. My own issues are minuscule in comparison.
‘Evening All’.
Another lovely warm day up here in the NW. We met old friends inside a pub this afternoon. It was lovely to catch up. We reminisced about FREEDOM days in years gone by when we all holidayed together in Lanzarote and Florida. We have made tentative plans for next year. It keeps us all going through these difficult days.
I’ve decided to take some time out from GN.
Every now & again I feel the need to re-group. Not all threads are as pleasant as this one.
?
As some of you might recall, we are off to Wester Ross this weekend with my stepfather. He is SO looking forward to being back in his village and being able to enjoy a wee dram with his cousins and extended family there.
Fingers crossed that our 8 hour trip up - and back - is uneventful (Himself does all the driving) that we enjoy some decent weather with no midges and that we all have a good time. Our bi-annual road trip will take us through amazing scenery with a stop off for a picnic and much welcome leg-stretch at Loch Lomond on Saturday lunchtime and then onward taking in the spectacular views through Glencoe.
We plan to visit places for my stepfather that he holds dear - Ullapool, Portree and Applecross. Apparently he used to cycle all the way up there from Plockton with a friend in his teens!
This will be his trip down ‘Memory Lane’ and we hope to make it restful yet memorable for him. He is very dear to us and I know how much this all means to him.
Until I return to GN I shall hold you all in my thoughts. You have all become such lovely friends in this kitchen. This is definitely one of the nicest places to visit. (And the Argy is such a giggle!).
See you soon Doodle ?
xx
You’ll be missed Urmstongran, I hope you all thoroughly enjoy your trip away, ask your stepfather, or you to have a wee dram for me. The area holds bitter sweet memories, a Highland Park will do fine, safe journeys.
Thank you Jax. I promise to raise my first glass to you on Saturday night in the Plockton Hotel.
??
muse unbelievable! I really think you should report it.
Bye Urms see you soon. Have a good time. We will miss you in the Argy Friday. Don’t forget it’s Beach Boys night so if you hear any of their songs, it will be us singing for jet ?
Urmstongran have a wonderful break, I have such fond memories of the Plockton Hotel and 90/- ale, and walking home 9 miles with Mr. B, each carrying a bagful of carryoot. We were young and silly and 9 miles was no distance
Thank you for your kind messages on here and pms..
Good to see you soop .?
As Arnie says: I'll be back. I've decided to take some time away completely from GN. A molehill has turned into a mountain for me emotionally.
Take care everyone and keep the kitchen cupboards well stocked with cake ?
Welcome back, dear soop - sooper to see you in the Kitchen again and struggling determined to catch up with all that's happened. Maybe BT, if you ask ever so nicely and stop beating them about the head with stuff, could pay for you to have a social secretary who will deal with all the incoming mail and make sure you are au fait with everything wherever you are. Mmmm! And there they fly.....???
Friday MUST be a good day for you. It's horrific that you struggle on without anyone making sterling efforts to finally sort out your nethers! I feel that Mr Soop - since he has the photographic evidence and lives with you and your problem and discomfort and sadness on a daily basis - might just be the man of the moment. He will perhaps make your case, put on the pressure and refuse to be fobbed off with half promises or little help. We (Leos) are good at fighting the good fight, but sometimes when it's for ourselves and we feel low and vulnerable, that's when we need a mentor, someone riding shotgun who can say 'now look here'. Don't hold back on the detail of your suffering and the constant difficulty it causes in your life - has done for so many years. Now is the hour - speak now or let your DH speak for you. You deserve a solution to put right the problem that someone else caused! Fingers all crossed for you. x
Doodle What Jax said and a little bit more. Panache needs to speak to the team leader in charge of her lovely man's care. He's a fighter and if he's going to go on fighting, he needs the proper treatment which has probably been denied him for all these months. Tell dear Panache we're willing her on to success and some relief for both of them.
Beautiful flowers, Maw. I so love peonies and those are lovely photographs of your garden. (And your Rosie)
Have a wonderful trip, Urms and come back refreshed and with a S/Father who has made memories with you all and who must be so pleased and happy and excited. All your doing!
Do hope the news is slightly better for you today, kitty.
Not impressed by your news, Muse. That behaviour has to be stamped out immediately. As everyone has suggested, you must report it, even if you have already responded. It's so easy, you just press 'Report" next to 'Private Message' and point GNHQ in the direction of the troublemaker. Don't lose a moment's sleep or waste any thought on it. ?
I never made it to the Pharmacy today - just too boiling hot. 28 in the pool, 38 in the garden, so I splashed about in the pool, floated on my pool cushion and generally entertained myself for a couple of hours swimming and rescuing Ladybirds. I put them on the tiles, they flew back into the water again - good game! So my endless search for insect bite relief will be put on hold until tomorrow, but I ended up really cool and comfortable.
Now tomorrow is super exciting - a visit to the Dentist. Yaaay! Hate the Dentist due to childhood terrors from evil Dentists. (Think slapping, shouting and being hurt!) Always had really nice ones latterly but I still hate having 'stuff' in my mouth and spend much time worrying about choking, and actually choking. It's all hateful. DH and I will need to spend loadsa money, I know. We'll get a pep talk, and a scale and polish and a written estimate, but at the end of all that, it will be time to get out that cheque book, I'm afraid.
When I say cheque book, some British people laugh because it seems that these are being used less and less in the UK - is that right? Here it's rather different and more old-fashioned. It's still possible to stand patiently waiting in a supermarket queue while someone searches for their pen, then their cheque book and carefully writes out a cheque for their groceries, having redeemed vouchers and checked that they have had the benefit of current special offers. It all takes time. No cheque cards in guarantee, though. Because if you write a cheque which bounces, you're in big trouble and you will also quite possibly have your account closed. So, no one worries about needing guarantees for payment. Your name and address is printed on the cheque as well - they know where you live! There is no escape!
That's a lovely cartoon, Pitt. Perhaps being supported by unbiased people who have empathy but don't know you, is easier and more reliable sometimes than confiding in friends? Maybe.
Sleep well, sweet dreams all you Kitchen types.
Stay safe and stay happy.
Night ?♀️??
Wishing you a fabulous holiday up in the Highlands with your dear stepfather Urms safe travels and we’ll miss you.
You too muse I’m so sorry you’ve had an upsetting time on GN and hope you’re back with us soon
Won’t be the same without you both ?
Thank you for the update on Panache Doodle keeping her and Mr Panache in my thoughts and sending love and support
Welcome back soop.
You’ll be missed Urmston don’t stay away too long.
I’ve had a not very busy day. It’s too hot to be busy. I wasted too much time on Gransnet, cleaned and tidied my baking cupboard, cleaned the kitchen, and visited my elderly mum in her sheltered apartment. She was very confused about her two bank accounts. I tried to help and untangle her confusion, but to little avail. I’ll have another try tomorrow. She is forgetful but not usually confused. I’m taking her out to a quiet pub for lunch tomorrow, it’ll do her good to get out. Apart from family visits, and the hairdresser and medical appointments, she hasn’t been out since last summer. Mt M cooked dinner and cleared up. I drank a nice glass of wine and wasted a bit more time on Gransnet. Goodnight all.
Have a great trip, Urmston, and come back full of stories.
Good to see you back where you belong soop, definitely time drop bot was no more.
A safe and enjoyable trip urms, hope you will be back with us soon.
Muse, I’m so sorry you’ve been badly treated, please report the PM, no one should be driven away.
Love the cartoon pitt, I’ve certainly had some fabulous support from people I’ve never met and indeed are unlikely to meet. I count myself lucky to have experienced GN at its best.
Good luck with the dentist grandmafrench, I’m never sure why anyone would enjoy a trip there. We’re picking up two grandchildren from school tomorrow to ferry them to the dentist, not a qualm between them about going, long may that last.
It wasn’t baking hot here today, a very cool breeze kept the temperatures down to manageable. I had my paddle, no idea of the temperature of the water but I’d certainly not be putting the rest of my body in there. A long walk and lunch at a sea front cafe ensured I was pretty tired when we got back. Now? Wise-awake-Itis!
Sleep well everyone, TOYA.
,
I really do hope the poster reports, what was actually a totally innocent and inoffensive PM and of course, the unjustified personal attack, she also made in response, which left me extremely distressed this morning.
I am the one who sent the allegedly, unpleasant PM in response to a question the poster asked me. Those of you who know me, know that I would never send a nasty PM. I have done nothing wrong, yet I am being vilified, without posters knowing the accurate facts. ? Posters are very quick to jump in, looking for a head on a plate. I thought if I kept a dignified silence, things would settle down. How naive I was.
In fact, it is I who should be doing thee reporting. ?
Soop, I'm sorry this lovely thread has been sullied by this unpleasantness and the dirty linen washed in public! It is not the appropriate place to raise it and has no place on this thread.
What a very nasty place GN has become.
Just to add, I have reported my own post above to alert GNHQ.
Today is a new day, hopefully there will be no more upset on this thread.
Oh dear! As I don't believe either poster would be nasty, I'm sure it is just a big misunderstanding.
soop, I hope you can get some relief from your dropped bot. It must be such a trial.
gf, I have no idea where my cheque book is. I pay almost everything by card or bank transfer. Periodically we get some cash out, put it in a drawer and it gradually disappears mostly car parking and our hairdresser. We never have enough change.
Thank you all for thinking of my brother. He remains in Intensive Care but is awake and speaking. The issue now seems to be tracing the infection. His wife is allowed to visit if he remains in ICU. We are all going to my other brother's house today for a catch up and a plan.
TOYA
Girls, girls - please make up! Like when my daughters fall out it pains me to see friends whether online or in RL unhappy with each other.
Sometimes words come across differently to how we meant them, sometimes our own emotions at the time cloud our understanding
As somebody slightly peripheral but sort of involved - please don’t let this cause unhappiness.
Well said Maw .
Maw ditto
Thinking of our dear Panache travelling a heartbreaking road alone ??
Oh dear, it’s sad that two lovely Grans have had a misunderstanding leading to a reporting.
I’m sure you can resolve it between you. ?
Urmston have a wonderful time in Plockton - you have long been looking forward to it so I hope you enjoy every moment. Also hoping to see your posts again soon. We love to hear about folks’ holidays and see photo’s if possible. ?
