I've been to the fair!

As A child I loved the fair on Wanstead Flares and the rides on Clacton Pier.
We went to Marbury Park yesterday. Lovely to see lots of families having picnics. A heavenly place for dogs too. Lots of spontaneous Hellos and Good Mornings.

Yes, Hull Fair was fantastic. We always went as a family, when I was a child. We also went to the 'showman's service' which I think was on the Sunday as Fair week started. My father had operated the traction engine for Corrigans steam gallopers for a short while so he knew lots of fair people and it was a chance to catch up.
I also went with friends as a teenager, and, yes, we did a bit of screaming on the waltzers.

I hated fair grounds as a child we used to be taken to New Brighton on the Wirral.
I never took my DS or DD because of my dislike of them they often told me they missed out! I preferred to take them on nature walks pond dipping and picnics.

I used to love going to Hull Fair when I was young. It was a major event in the town each year. Anyone else remember it.

As detailed on another thread. We spent the weekend in Great Yarmouth, lots of people outside chatting awya, no masks but lots of hand sanitisers.

I think when normality resumes we will appreciate our life more and not take anything for granted.

It`s lovely seing happy faces again,especialy childrens.

I would love to live close enough to the sea to be able to go for a day visit, it would be lovely to see families enjoying life again after the last year. We have a lot of scared, anxious children who need to have fun again.

On a similar theme we have spent most of the day on the beach. Youngsters in canoes, on surfboards and paddle boards, sandwiches, fizzy drinks and ice creams. Beach balls and buckets. You're right, just what they need now. There will be a lot of red faces and tired young bodies tonight.

I fancy a go at the latest craze of paddle boarding where you just stand up and paddle. Trouble is my wobbly balance would no doubt land me in the water, if I could ever get off my knees in the first place.

I remember the time we begged mum to take us on the Waltzers. She said we wouldn’t like it. She gave in and she was right ?
